We need to make an offer. This trade could save our offense this season. They acknowledged that the team needs help at TE and this opportunity is golden.

What it really depends on is the contract the team is going to have to give him before the trade is even finalized. That's the entire reason why Chicago is selling in the first place.

He's only a $4 million cap hit this year and a $6 million cap hit for next year if we trade for him.We can handle that and he's WELL worth that price.

Still doesn't change the fact that he looking for more money and it's not like The Bears are hurting for cap space either.. I think if The Ravens decide to trade for a  tight end it probably be during the later portion of the draft or after the draft.

I would give up a third for Bennett in a heartbeat I don't think that he is worth more then that... Even better would be a 4th and a 5th I think Bennett could light it up and is a perfect big target for flacco

I'd really like Bennett here, but if he wants a new deal paying him top-5 TE money, that's going to be hard to swallow for us. That would mean a ton of money invested into the TE position, which would likely mean parting ways with Pitta very soon. There's no way you can keep both players that much money.

Kinda weird, huh? If this actually happened, I'd be a little surprised to say the least. I'd be happy, but surprised. Lol.

To think that I traded out Marshall and could have had McPhee as well if I made some room in cap earlier...

If Bears make draft day trade for Jay Cutler, I'm going to send them a letter - either they give me a job or pay me royalties.

Exactly - he's most likely too expensive for us. That's why I think Gresham is Ozzie's target (or that the deal might have been done, just waiting May 12 so comp pick is not counted).

I agree as well, obviously. I think Gresham will be our guy.

Money makes me think it won't happen...Especially if there's any truth to the rumors of his locker room concerns. Fortunately we have Trestman who can give the front office some insight whether or not they should gamble on him, if it's even up for debate....

Honestly, with how poor this TE class is, I can see other needy teams over pursue him....3rd rounder and extension is as high as I'd go and I'd still be very reluctant.

Another guy on the trade block who would be interesting is Mychal Kendricks.

I know ILB isn't a massive need, but Daryl Smith isn't getting any younger, and behind him we only have Albert McClennan and Arthur Brown (who I'm worried looks like a bust).

Kendricks is only 24, and is proven quality with serious All Pro potential. The prospect of having Kendricks and Mosley playing alongside one another for the rest of the decade would really excite me. He's still on his rookie deal for one more season too, so he'd cost next to nothing until next year.

I know Ozzie doesn't like to give up draft picks, but it's got to be worth contacting the Eagles just to find out what they're asking for him. Draft picks are great, but if a young, talented playmaker who has proven he can play at a high level in this league is available, why risk the chance of a bust?

I've heard a lot of speculation about what Chip Kelly will accept for Kendricks. Considering we're not picking until 26 in the draft, I think I'd give up a 2nd round pick for him.

We're known for picking BPA, and I'm not sure there's going to be a better player available by the time of the 58th pick.

I saw the headline and didn't read the entire article on nfl.com first so I originally thought they were trading him because he's a headache. But even if he does want a new contract I'd still like Ozzie to trade for him. From what I heard and read he's not asking for more money. He just wants an extension on the two years he has left.

The patriots were willing to give big money to both Gronk and Hernandez so I wouldn't say there's noway it can happen.

it can happen if you sacrifice other parts of the team.

problaly means either osemele or yanda will be gone and Upshaw probably as well.

got to say that both hernandez and gronk are a tier above pitta and Bennett  so in their case it seemed more justified although in hindsight 1 turned out to be a serial killer...

I'm pretty sure bennet could be obtained with only a 4th, but we"d have to increase his contract by about 2 million a year increasing it to about 7- which is a bit pricey. Not out of the question but not too likely either. We will see. The trestman connection is the main reason I could see it happening- or not happening if he knows something we don't know-since he was in the locker room with the guy.

Love Bennet as a player but I don't see why we would entertain the option of trading for him. I don't want to give up an asset like a 4th round pick, or take on that salary.

I don't want Bennett. I'd rather we draft a TE and stick with Gillmore. And if Pitta's healthy, that's a bonus.

I agree. Bennett seems like a bit of a malcontent anyway.

After hearing that Jonathan Joseph might be released or traded with the arrival of of Kevin Johnson, I absolutely love the idea of bringing him in and we have the cap space. That would really sure up that group and after this draft I can't think of a weak spot on the team then.

Thoughts?

The fact that you love the idea of bringing in someone like Joseph tells me one of two things are going to happen: he won't be cut or he'll be signed by someone else before we express our interest. Seems to be that way this entire offseason.

James Jones will be released by the Raiders.

Would be a typical Ozzie move to bring him in for cheap, assuming he'll come cheap.

Not out of the realm of possibility but we do have a packed depth chart at WR right now, I feel like we need to save cap space in case a CB becomes available. Don't think Jones adds all that much to our current situation.

i think we will Add a CB

also..inside linebacker might be something to look at as Daryl is getting on now..

A CB and ILB

that will be our two needs. Can Daryl smith play like he has in the past 2 years? Can we get a good starting CB cut for cap reasons on other teams?

if we can..we will have been in a situation where every hole has been filled.
