Well Marshall's fantasy value just went down the drain. Guess we could close this one and start a new one for the trade since this is mostly talk of us possibly getting him which we can't.

I disagree.  If they really did offer Torrey $7M a year then they could afford Marshall's contract.  He was set to make under $8M this year, next year, and $8.3M in 2017.  Those would have been the cap hits and that's doable for a legit #1.  Not to mention they could have given him a cheap 1 or 2 year extension to lower the cap numbers

I think more likely they didn't want to give up a draft pick.

I'm just wondering though, why do you think this would be the case? Do you not think the Ravens front office would be extremely aware of the fact that they aren't likely to get a receiver the caliber of Marshall in the fourth or fifth round?

I'm also going to take a guess that Ngata's refusal to restructure by now cost any chance at him. No way we were taking on Marshall's contract with Ngata's big cap hit still on the table.

The FO knows they can't handle at $8M cap number in 2015 for a WR, and I think they also knew that Marshall was unlikely to renegotiate a deal that still has 3 years left on it.

Like you said, even on an average of $8-9M deal for Torrey (which is more than we offered), his cap number would still probably be in the $5M range, if that, in 2015.

I never once thought we'd make a trade for Marshall or Andre, because there's just no guarantee either would agree to lower their cap hit for him to stay. The only way we would have gotten either guy, in my opinion, is via FA.

I'm going to go ahead and say that's very likely. Not only could they not fit Marshall under the current cap space, but there's no guarantee they could have cleared a substantial amount to do anything else in free agency, especially if Ngata won't budge.

You don't have to be under the cap until Tuesday. We can take on $50M in cap money this weekend if we want to... we just have to find a way to cut to the cap level by Tuesday.

Had we agreed to trade for Marshall, it almost certainly would have meant that we were straight cutting Ngata.

Which is what the front office said about Marshall, according to Aaron Wilson. FA was going to be the only outlet to pursue a wide receiver like Marshall.

The only way I could have seen the Ravens working out a trade for Marshall would have been if they had done a Ngata for Marshall trade, which I wouldn't have minded if the Ravens ultimately end up cutting Ngata, but even then, there's no guarantee the Bears would want to take on Ngata's contract with only one year left.

Basically, the Ravens were unfortunate that he never made it to free agency, but there are certainly other options out there currently on the market and with the list of cut players growing, the values just might be getting better and better.

Thank you. I agree that was a horrible post.

Jets in the right place at the right time. Now this stuff can cease about him coming to Balt.

The Jets aka Wide Receiver Purgatory.

At least this tread is where it should have always been - Non-Raven related. Thank you moderators.

NY Jets, where wr's careers go to die. Braylon Edwards went there and was never heard from again. I kinda feel bad for Marshall, I'm sure that was one of the last places he wanted to end up from a football perspective. But then on the personal side of things he get's to live in the big apple and be a part of that NY culture and I think that's something he'll embrace.

Wasn't a fan of bringing Marshall to Baltimore so it doesn't bother me, his contract/personal issues was never something a team in our position was going to roll the dice on.

Maybe they trade Cutler to Jets, too. 6th round pick.

I like the theory of them trading their first round pick with the Eagles in turn for Foles as well as some other draft picks

Yeah, I'm just joking. Cutler isn't tradable much. $15 mil this year and if he's on the roster next week, $10 mil in guarantees kicks in for 2016. And he sucks.
