Merged: Brandon Marshall reportedly being traded to the Jets

467 posts in this topic

Not the only reason. Don't remember the exact player/scenario but BleacherReport took speculation from posters on this site and published it as "trade rumors".

When was this? I'd enjoy seeing that.

I never said they're perfect, but they're usually okay enough with being realistic

I'd actually be curious to see any reputable or major site (Bleacher Report, NFL, ESPN) link the Ravens as favorites for Demaryius or Julius Thomas

Well, I know this very website published an article referencing at least one other place stating that either could follow Adam Gase to Baltimore, back when he was being discussed as the favorite for our OC job.

Try double checking your assertions next time because that one simply asked the question and said the Ravens biggest move could be getting the number one receiver, but then proceeded to say there was basically no chance because the Ravens will not have the cap and would have way too much maneuvering to do.

So no, no articles claiming the Ravens as favorites to land either Thomas so far

So basically, it said the exact same thing as every other article this time of year, including one's that link Marshall to the Ravens.

They published this article (now redacted) based on this thread - which was a member speculating. It was literally BleacherReport's source and they published an article about it being a trade rumor. Of course, it made the rounds through the internet and was eventually squashed once it came before more credible media - Peter King / Jamison Hensley.

Also from that thread, I thought this was funny: http://boards.baltimoreravens.com/topic/21509-rumor-nnamdi-asomugha-possible-trade-to-ravens/page-4#entry399168

No, not at all. The articles linking Marshall to the Ravens literally say they are the favorites to land him and say they make the most sense. That article said there was no chance of landing Thomas. See the difference?

I said the rest of the league, not the rest of beatwriters who speculate the exact same level as fanboard people do.

I could post the same articles about how we are "favorites" to land Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, or a half dozen other players that we almost certainly won't land.

And I'd consider landing one of those guys actually more realistic at this point, because at least they are FAs at the moment.

The operative words in your post were "ravens fans" not "the league".You meant the league as it pertains to ravens fans. But it's not serious enough to go back and forth over so I'll let it go.Alot of those writers for the big sites have connections to guys within organizations across the league so you can't just put their words in the same category as fanboard speculation. Also,as Bmorebirds said,I'd love to see an article from one of those reputable sites that link us to one of those big money/big name guys.

Interesting aspect to this is what Ozzie said in the presser today... the Ravens would have a tough time adding a player this offseason with domestic violence in their background.

That would appear to rule out Dorial Green-Beckham (I thought he was ruled out already), but it has the potential to also rule out Brandon Marshall IF he becomes available.

At least Marshall has been on both ends of the spectrum, so may he is a net neutral (was stabbed by wife in 2011).

I don't suspect that's going to be the case.

I'm not entirely ruling out Marshall as a possibility IF (and that's a big if) he becomes available, because I think its potentially possible that the FO sees how Marshall appears to have straightened out recently.

But its just something to think about IF he becomes available and we don't re-sign Torrey, because I guarantee that domestic violence past is going to be a consideration for the Ravens, and along with other factors, it could very well be the difference between him playing here or elsewhere.

Still think its a long shot either way...

I think the Ravens will investigate Marshall and use that to determine whether they want him or not. If I had to guess, they will probably use Trestman and his pre-existing rapport to determine whether he's a high or low risk as well.

No, i was trying to state the fact that Marshall has a long checkered past and tried to poke some sleep deprived really crappy humor in that.

So as we all know unless you haven't heard the Bears plan to part ways with him.

http://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/super-page/terry-boers-is-reporting-that-the-bears-plan-on-parting-ways-with-brandon-marshall-soon/

We absolutely NEED this beast. He'd be the tallest receiver Flacco has ever had and the best IMO. 6'5.

Boldin was 6'0. Mason 5'10, SSS 5'9.

 !

Isn't Marlon Brown 6' 5 ?? If the Bolts didn't knock him out of the game, You guys would have easily won that game.

Brandon Marshall is still Jekyll and Hyde... Yah he had that NFL network "A Football Life" But he stills a wild card...He claimed to be Jay Cutlers True Bro, And then he threw him under the bus, With the quickness.

None of this speculation matters until we do something with Ngata Webb and possibly Yanda's contracts or make some more cuts like Canty Koch Gradkowski McClellan because as it stands after we let Jacoby go we have enough money for our draft class and that's it and we haven't even tendered any RFA's or ERFA's so we can't even think about Marshall and the fact that he is still under contract with the Bears. So basically until something happens this is only a dream

In light of the statements made concerning DV I would consider this possibility all but dead.

I agree. That's my thinking as well.

With the way our secondary played, I'm not so sure. 33 points should have been enough in my opinion.

Colts are said to keep an eye on Marshall, I hope it doesn't happens. If we don't get him I hope a WR-Needy team does so it could help more guys fall to us.

Honestly i would think any team "keeps an eye on him" but that doesnt mean they are actually going to go after him.   I think its funny how people think we have no chance to get him because of our cap issues but yet it seems perfectly fine that we offer torrey the 5/35 in theory.   Ive been the biggest pusher of this train to everyone i know and there is still no way that im ok with giving torrey the same amount of money we could give marshall, but like others have said he still has to be released.  and after seeing douglas released, i feel like there will be many options for us with the way OZ works

Amazing. Brandon jokes about the Ravens, every notable FO and media professional generally refutes the possibility of the thing, the rumor goes into over-drive and weeks later...here we are. 20 thread pages in. Really?

Come on March.

Honestly I made the prediction before him and harbs ever talked. Just a gut feeling I had and besides.... It's the off-season.

Marshalls cap number for the next three years. Not feasible as is.

2015 - $9.575

2016 - $9.975

2017 - $10.375

Is that his non-guaranteed salary or his total cap hit on Chicago (guaranteed included)?

We only take on base salary, but that's still too expensive.

2015 - $7.5M

2016 - $7.9M

2017 - $8.3M

Correct, I was incorrect in just listing the cap number. RMW10 has the correct figures.
