Defensive Backs' Coverage

At this point I have more hope for Melvin than Webb.

*shrugs*

Maybe.  Keeping both is not a bad idea.

I have a hunch more of our secondary will be on the roster at least in August if not September, than those who will not be.

IMHO, the thing that cost us the game was not really Joe's INT or Daniels letting that pass go through his hands in the end zone, it was Dean Pees playing our CB's so far off the line of scrimmage. I believe Webb and Melvin were really starting to gain confidence after the decent job they did against the Steelers. To not have faith in these men to man up and play their position is inexcusable in my book. We gave them first downs most of the game and all the way down the field on that last TD drive by letting Brady throw to the sidelines and his receivers getting a running start up the field. I was disgusted by it. I do not have anything against Dean Pees as a man, he committed no crime or sin, but honestly as our DC, I am HIGHLY UPSET with him. I have not felt that way since Cam Cameron. I am sorry but he needs be held accountable for this and answer why he did not play to win the game. I also question why Harbs did not step in to force the adjustment. Does anyone else agree with me?

Hated it!  We don't have anyone on the back end that is a pure ball hawk!  Not one person since the great Ed Reed left!

I said to my wife during the pats game.

" Man I wish Ed was here right now.  He would change the game. "

I e said this before. If your qb is constantly being asked to bring g you from behind, too much is being asked.

Defense cost us.

Yeah I didn't get it.  Seems to me we needed to play tight coverage to let the front seven get some more shots on Brady.  We were getting there almost in time in the first half and knocking him around some, not sure why we stopped.

I also felt like we went for the touchdown way too soon at the end of the game.  We should have tried to score a touchdown with 10 seconds left, not 1:30.  We should have ran the ball on that play where Joe threw the INT.

I am so tired of this excuse. You might as well not suit up if you are going to give up 7 yards every single play playing off coverage on a team that isn't running the ball ever. Really, there is no logic whatsoever in what you are saying. It's either try it and maybe make a stop. Or don't try it and don't ever make a stop. You would for whatever reason choose the later option which is just asinine.

He had really good coverage on him, it was a perfect throw and a good catch. And you act like somehow playing off would have helped. Every time someone has gone deep on us this year when we are playing off coverage, they are wide open by like 10 yards.

If we played man press, our corner are going to constantly give up huge plays. Now your talking 20-30 yds instead of 6-7. Webb, for a fact, cannot play press, even before his injury. With his injury, he is mediocre at off zone. No thanks.

That td attempt was because of what joe saw. He was playng well all game and if he felt something was there you're gonna go for it, no guarantee they would have gotten the shot with 10s left either. Idk I think I like playoff/January flacco.

ehh, even when we played soft we still blew coverage. Pees seems to like the cover 2 and 3, so when we get some better tackling from our secondary and more coverage discipline things will look a lot better. That's the hope at least.

Yeah, now that you're saying this, I'm rethinking that because I always did hate his large cushions... maybe I'm remembering how he should have been a press corner...

Cary almost always seemed to play off coverage. I rarely remember him being allowed to press, unless you're thinking about his Madden counterpart. I never left cushion when I used him in Madden, as my 4th string corner....

yea the thing i remember most about cary williams is his complete inability to use his size for anything other than shoving players 5 seconds after the whistle lol

The tackling could have been better, yes, but here is the problem I find with the strong criticism of the tackling in that situation. First of all. You let the receiver catch the ball standing still which any fan in the stands can do instead of catching it on the move which is way more difficult and why the receivers make the big bucks. Second of all instead of tackling the receiver when he is "off balance" making a catch, you have a situation where a receiver have a running start coming at you. If I had a running start a 5'10" 182 pound guy, he would have trouble sometime with me and if I spun forward after he touches me, I bet I could break free a few times if I had that running start. Playing 8 plus yards back from the receiver guarantees they are going to pick up yards every time and we game them that play on every third and short and they took it all game!

cover 3 the outside CBs are supposed to back off and we did not have enough cover corners to play man to man.

a man zone concept would not have been an option because the holes in the defense would have been much larger then they already where.

people need to accept the fact that NE attacked our weakness by spreading it out going 3 WR 1 TE and 1 RB sets and then emptying the backfield.

all those injuries in the secondary caught up to us.

don't think the pats even attempted to run it in the 2nd half.

we all hate it but they made the half time adjustments they needed.

All these memories are starting to flood back to me. I used to be so frustrated at him and truly dislike him on almost every level

Lmao.. yess. Yesss. Yesssssss! That's more like it. Played 15 yrds off, consistently beat and constantly crying. That's how I remember Cary. All that aside, I do respect him though. 7 round pick who worked hard to get his and become a starter.

Better tackling would have made  a big difference but our secondary overall look confused and lost. Pee's seem to have just wanted to use off man coverage to protect our cornerbacks a little better probably against screens and the short passes. We did use press man coverage but at the end of the day our secondary just failed bad at tackling

If I remember correctly, if Elam makes the tackle on Edelman, where he got the TD, they only get a FG, cause I think that was 3rd down. The "tackling" was horrible and seems to have plagued us since... hmm 2012. Coincidence?

The whole secondary just seems to constantly miss guys in what should be easy wrap ups. I don't know who that's on, but it needs to be fixed.

Also need to start going after bigger guys in the backfield.

I do give him props for being a starter, but now I'm starting to just remember that Patriots game where it felt like every throw went against Cary. I mean, damn, that man could not stop a pass to save his life.
