Brady to Ravens: 'Study the rule book and figure it out'

610 posts in this topic

Problem is when we lost Cary Williams and Corey Graham.... we kept 4 corners...  One was suspended (Asa), one had back spasms and leg issues (Webby) and was out.  Two were hurt in a span of 3 weeks (Jimmy and Chykie), and then we get Webby back....  and the other wound up hurt after he came back from suspension (Asa)... It was a Carousel of Corners....  We didn't keep enough depth...  but who would have thought we needed that much depth?  Sure as heck not me!!!

I was saying this in the context of the SB, nothing else.

But since you bring it up, I agree letting Graham go turned out to be a mistake, but who could predict the rash of injuries at CB? And Williams?  I just don't think he's good and no matter the situation, glad he's gone.

I don't think anyone gives a rat's butt about Miss brady and her whining. What they do care about is the preferential treatment she gets.

Absolutely.

OK...  guess I didn't go back far enough.  I suffer from my own version of ADHD....  ;)

too much!  I was wondering what the delay in the game last night was about.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000460728/article/nfl-looking-into-pats-possible-use-of-deflated-balls

I put about as much stock in a "deflating footballs" argument for winning a football game as I do with the "deer antler spray" argument for winning a football game...

Footballs or beach balls, New England absolutely waxes Indianapolis every single time there.

thanks for the observation professor.  Your keen sense for the obvious never ceases!

If this is true, it's just more evidence of what scum bags the patsies are.

And if its not true, fans will pretend its true anyway, and still think they are scum bags.

Its been reported as potentially possible, therefore in the age of the internet, it is now officially the gospel. Evidence for or against is irrelevant.

People can rationalize whatever they want. The best team in the AFC is representing the AFC in the SB.

I don't care about any of the fun internet stuff that comes along with it...

I agree man!

Seems like people come up with all types of excuses for this or that.  My goodness!  The Patriots just literally blasted and ran through the Colts last night.  The Ravens?  Well, they had their opportunity to finish the Patriots off by being up 14 pts on two occasions and couldn't do it! And now, the Patriots are representing the AFC in the Super Bowl...again!  It's just that simple!

I for one am not saying, and did not say any of the patsies shenanigans made a difference in the outcome of games. But damn, what scum bags!  The stuff they have done and allegedly continue to do just tarnishes whatever they accomplish.

FYI - This latest scheme was brought up by NFL officials, not "people".

lol, you missed the point. The point wasn't about who was reporting it. The point was that internet blog boys are generally not interested in things like facts, evidence, etc.

it was reported that it was possible, therefore on every single blog site discussing this issue, there are fans who have already indicted them for doing it.

Other news sites, such as ESPN, have had multiple people literally laughing about this, because they already know that teams do this on a weekly basis, and they're always amused when internet forums make big deals out of things that people have known about for decades.

Facts are generally irrelevant in this case...

To me... It does not matter if the pats won big or not... It's the constant manipulation of rules and the extent they will go to circumvent them. It just makes you wonder what other things haven't been uncovered .

I'll hold judgement on this until it proves to be nothing. If it turns out to be something, then yay for the additional 1 liner I can throw at my Pats fan buddies.

And thats fine, except outside of "spygate", there's really nothing illegal about what they are doing. Their formations are legal, and this notion of doctoring footballs is laughable when you hear some of the things former players say about what they did.

Trent Dilfer, SB winning QB for the Ravens, just acknowledged on ESPN that he would rub mud and dirt on live game balls and throw them in air dryers before games as a member of the home team.

But, its the Patriots, so it gets press...

no, it gets press because it's something that is regulated ... Ball weight/size etc... Any team would have the same scrutiny . Mud/dirt over live game balls... There's no standard for " ball cleanliness" or otherwise... You should read Spygate: the Untold story. Bob Kraft has his hand up the NFL's rump and controls the mouth!

As far as I know rubbing dirt on your balls and drying them is not against the rules.  ^_^  Both teams supply their own balls and I'm sure QBs and receivers have favorite ways to prep them, so I don't see relevance in Dilfer's comments.  But it is a rule that the ball be a certain pressure.

Rules smules! Pats don't have to follow no rules!

We'll see how it plays out but we could have video of them deflating balls and the NFL will say they didn't do it.

The crazy thing is, the pats didnt have to do ANY of those under handed things.

As H8R said, when things like this come up it makes you wonder if they are doing anything else to spin the decision their way. If they really did put energy into ball deflating, why not put together a shopping cart of easy to get away withs?

yeah but TOs can change a game in a heartbeat. The point of deflation is making the ball easier to grip.

Yeah I hear ya.

This super bowl could well be a cluster mess.

Which ironically, based on the strategy of both teams yesterday, would appear on the surface to actually benefit the Colts more...

Pats gameplan was clearly designed around not throwing the ball much

Eh don't know about that. Don't know if they did or didn't but at some point, where there's smoke, there's fire. It is always the Pats skirting the edge even if they aren't outright breaking the rules. Makes you wonder what they're actually getting away with that the NFL hasn't found out about.

LOL, when it comes to the media these days, there's often a large amount of smoke and rarely is there even remotely a fire... stuff like facts and evidence are of secondary importance. All you have to do is hint at smoke, and fans will make sure to create a fire...

I don't care what they're doing or not doing. I know they're outplaying a lot of teams, including our own, on the football field on almost an annual basis.

I prefer to just not care about what teams are and aren't "getting away with", because discussions like that usually end up with fans not being overly proud of their own teams and what they are or aren't "getting away with" when its all said and done.

Some of us still believe in fair play, staying within the rules, honesty and sticking to your word. Even if you think those things are outdated.

You can believe whatever you want.... but the New England Patriots are playing in the SB because they earned the right to do so by beating the teams that they beat, including the one we cheer for.

Beliefs have nothing to do with it...

I just don't understand this type of thinking. It's rampant right now, especially on this topic. Cheating is cheating. Whether or not the team in the end needed it is irrelevant. If they did deflate balls (and we won't know that until the NFL finishes its investigation), they didn't do it for grins and giggles. They did it to gain a competitive advantage that they thought they needed. That once the game started they apparently didn't need it has -nothing- to do with this.

I saw one guy say it wouldn't have mattered because -everybody- knew they were going to blow the Colts out. Well -everybody- knew they were going to blow the Ravens out of the water because of their new vaunted defense and our non-existent secondary, how'd that blowout go for them? They barely escaped that game by the skin of their teeth.

Cheating is cheating .. regardless of outcome and no, when found out it shouldn't be tolerated or ignored.

1. Very, very, very, very, very few people, even the biggest Pats homers, suspected the Pats would blow out the Ravens. A lot of fans on here like to perpetuate the "massive underdog" mentality, but it was shared by very, very, very few people.

2. The reason it doesn't matter is because there is no action that can be taken that will change ANY of the outcomes in the current or near future. You can't quantify or even rationally decide what impact such events would have or could have had on the game. I said earlier... you can't even 100% say that deflating the balls wasn't more beneficial to the Colts than the Pats.

3. It wouldn't be tolerated or ignored... if its actually proven that it happened. But the problem with that is two-fold...first most fans don't care if its true or not. If you don't like the Patriots, this incident happened. It doesn't matter if it actually did or it didn't... your mind is made up, and that's all there is to it. And most importantly... fans, particularly fans who hate a certain team or what they do, have an uncanny ability to NOT be able to add perspective to a situation. They attempt to classify "cheating as cheating" regardless of the scope, impact, etc. of two completely different incidents.

The world is gray, not black or white, and fans would be very smart to begin to realize this. But in the end... 90% of the people have already made up their mind about what happened and how they are going to react to it. No evidence required.

Exactly, and you would think this would be obvious. Kinda makes you wonder about people.

No matter, I guess it takes all kinds to make it spin.
