Brady to Ravens: 'Study the rule book and figure it out'

610 posts in this topic

It's a different NFL world after much of the off field happenings .

1st round pick loss gonna happen .

Not according to most of the punishments they've given out this year for "on-field cheating"...

repeat offenders. theyre headed to a super bowl with both of their playoff wins coming at the cost of integrity for the game, if the NFL isnt livid about this and react accordingly, then i have lost faith in this league.

they need to lose a 2nd round pick at the very least, im so sick of the patriots and their ways, they bend the rules and find loopholes, and then they follow up by straight up breaking the rules giving them an unfair advantage for an entire game, the games already been played so theres nothing the league can do about them being in the super bowl by cheating.

they have 3 super bowls under their current regime all of which are questionable due to spygate, but hey they still got the rings, now theyre going to another super bowl with more confirmed cheating, but if they win it all there will be no real consequences, they keep the lombardi and the rings and lose a draft pick after cheating their way there, when you win a bcs title and the ncaa discovers a decade down the road that a player was receiving compensation for his play, you get your titles stripped from your school, but the patriots can keep 3, maybe 4 super bowl rings after it being confirmed that they cheated on their way to those titles.

Far, far, far too late to be coming out with these claims.

If you suspected something then, then you say something or you don't. Coming out weeks later because somebody else did doesn't make the Ravens look good in this case.

Kind of like Brad Johnson confessing that he paid people off to alter balls before the SB... that's great Brad. The only reason you're discussing it is to get your name in the paper...

Weren't you the guy that was insistent Rice wouldn't win his suit against the Ravens ? He won .

I heard on Mike and Mike this morning where a retired referee had some insight and mentioned that those 12 balls (kicking) stay with a specific official and nobody else touches them. The other 12 non-special team balls get measured and then stay with the team's ball boy. So until I hear otherwise, I don't think there's much opportunity for tampering as far as kickoff goes.

Thank God our legal system doesn't operate this way...

Great thing is, none of this is happening.

I don't see how nothing being done to cheating (no matter how big or small) is a great thing. What is the chance Patriots might have altered the ball on the division game vs Ravens?

Maybe you have some sort issue with me personally, but something will be done prior to superbowl.

Whatever NFL decides, this decision will let the world know whether cheating in NFL as a repeated offender is allowed or not. Like I said, it's about the integrity of the sport.

Are you a Patriots fan, someone who has a man crush on Tom Brady.  It seems you're doing you best first take imitation taking the opposite viewpoint when people post something.

My question if you don't mind me asking.. Are you a true Ravens fan or a fly by night that changes teams?

From reading your posts it looks as though you're a fence sitter.  Apologies if I'm wrong on this of course.

Again, I agree with this.  I couldn't believe that the Ravens are just now speaking up about this after the fact that it came out after the AFC Championship game.  The Ravens come off as having eaten sour grapes and whiny because of their loss to the Patriots.  Just leave it alone and let it run it's course in the media.

Here's a question :

What if they used deflated balls against us, I'd say that's worth a 4 point difference. Huh?

"The Ravens" didn't say the balls were off. There are unconfirmed rumors that a few players may be saying that.

Also, the Cheatriots don't care if they get fined or lose a draft choice. They just don't care. They just want to win and will bend/break rules to that end. That's who they are.

I gave you a plus one because don't believe a member should get a negative for stating their opinion.

I do disagree with your assessment however. If the Ravens complained you can bet some would say they were poor sports however there's proof the Patriots doctored footballs.  As been proven in the past anything is possible with that organization and the latest cheat may have been enough for the Ravens to speak out about this.

Sure enough Tucker wasn't getting much on his kickoffs.  Not being there of course I attributed it to the weather.

Weren't you the guy that was insistent Rice wouldn't win his suit against the Ravens ? He won .

Did he? He settled. Could easily argue a settlement is a win for either, both, or neither.

Something tells me the Ravens were pretty happy with the outcome...

Nobody is suggesting nothing will be done, but that certainly doesn't mean that overreactionary measures need to be taken either.

Things like banishing Belichick from the league, making the Patriots forfeit games, etc. certainly doesn't sense a reasonable message to anybody about the facts that happened.

LOL, no.

1. The idea of a "true fan" is inherently subjective to begin with, and there's really no such thing. Some people think being a "true fan" is just waving poms poms and saying "go Ravens go" all day long. Others think that they are a "true fan" simply because they buy season tickets. Inherently subjective, and therefore, inherently irrelevant.

If you asked my subjective opinion of what a "true fan" is, I'd say its somebody who's realistic and educated about their team. Being a realist about your team and identifying their faults is an important part in being a fan in my opinion.

2. I'm the worst kind of fan... a realistic one. I don't tow the company line and take my teams side of the argument just because they are my team and it benefits the easy argument to do so.

In the end, this has nothing to do with the Ravens. If the Ravens want to come out NOW (why not earlier?) and claim they think there was something wrong with the balls, then cool. Doesn't benefit them in the slightest to do so, and from a PR standpoint, I doubt anybody thinks its a good look for the franchise.

My take on this whole situation with the Ravens "just now" speaking up is that they should have said something 2 weeks ago.  By saying something now, it just comes across as being poor losers to me.  Everyone knows the Patriots cheat!

Source?

This would be the equivalent of saying that Ray Lewis was the loser in his civil settlement with the family of the murder victims. Do you really think that was a "loss" for Ray Lewis given the circumstances?

That's generally how "settlements" work... everybody is generally happy or at least "fine" with the outcome.

FWIW,  Harbaugh Just said to the press that the "NFL called the Ravens during their investigation and they answered honestly".

Cool!

If a organization abruptly fires you and then initially refuses to pay you what's due you...and you finally get it...yeah you win!  If the Ravens were so happy with this outcome there was no need to go through this in the first place.  They should have paid him previously without all of the legalities.

Except they probably paid less. And it sets a bad precedent for any organization where everybody that sues you or even threatens to sue you gets exactly what they demand 100% of the time.

I don't see how Tom Brady gets punished unless there is evidence he was involved or knew about it.  Ultimately Belicheck is responsible.  An appropriate punishment would be, in my opinion:
1.  Suspended Belicheck from the NFL for 6 months effective IMMEDIATELY.  This means he cannot be part of the Super Bowl ride, and will miss most of the off-season business.  Any violations of this tack on an additional 6 months.  This would be handled the same way Sean Payton was suspended = ZERO contact with the team.

2. Revoke the Patriots' top two draft picks.

3. Fine Bob Kraft 5 million USD.  He too is responsible.

4. Place an asterisk (*) next to their win over the Colts last week.

The Patriots are always trying sleazy ways to win, and we know they have done this many times in the past, they just got caught this time.  They have a reputation of "cheaters."  Lay down the hammer so they don't do it again, and send a message to everyone else.

While I don't think most of those things will happen (Peter King just said he pretty much guaranteed that any punishment wouldn't apply to the SB)... I've always been perplexed about one thing...

What exactly does an "asterisk" accomplish? Who benefits from that? Does anybody read asterisks? Is there some dusty record book somewhere where somebody actually writes an asterisk next to a game?

The game happened, we all saw it, and we all know what happened afterwards. I don't see what benefit an asterisk has.

The Patriots still would have won that game regardless.  The asterisk indicates something is different about that game.  When people look it up in 25 years they will see that the Patriots cheated, and even though it didn't do anything in the outcome of the game, it reflects negatively on the organization.  Even in the short-term (<10 years) it makes the organization look bad, classes, etc., and it should.

Maybe Tom should "Study the rule book" the NFL Rulebook, not the one that says "Bills book of spells and Magic and how it applies to YOU"
