What A Surprise (not Really)

58 posts in this topic

I believe that Flacco and Ryan should be the only 2 that should mentioned for the award. It is easier for a runningback to come in and play well than it is a receiver.

No surprise. Everyone has to remember the not-so-good playing Joe did at the beginning of the season which tarnished his overall stats. I think he was 1-13 TD-INT or something bad. It also has to do with the fact that he's not from a big ten university. It just looks better for the media if the #3 pick from BOSTON COLLEGE wins.

Congratulation Matt Ryan. You officially were giving the ROY award, which you won after week 1 in the media's eyes. Even though you won this award base off the "big" college you played at and your high draft position and the bias from the media claiming you help turn around a franchise that was shadow by the Michael Vick dog fighting situation. I didn't know that the more dysfunctional the situation a player walks into, the more credit they get as far as awards and recognition goes. Why I'm at it, congratulation to whoever the Lions draft with the number overall pick next year. Cause regardless of what the other players that get drafted next year does, none of them will be walking into a worse situation then that. Once again Matt Ryan congratulation!

He did say it.

I forgot what video either on the Ravens site or NFL.com.

He said it didnt matter right now and all thats important to him now is the games up next.

That's just what everyone in the ravens says about everything this year. Being focused is one thing, but the way the go on it's border line obsessive.

I agree. If you look at the list of ROYs, There are some great ones for sure, but there are some duds too.

Well, I wouldn't call him a dud JUST yet, give him a year to regroup after all that's gone on, and then we'll see what he can really do.

FLACCO > RYAN

If it wasn't for the Michael Vick fiasco, Joe would have gotten more recognition... oh well, we all know who's the best, and that's all that matters.
I agree.

I don't think anyone expected him to even play this season when we drafted him.

Grats Ryan, who some may say "the media darling of last years draft".
Both teams have solid QBs. I take Flacco over Ryan for he has great upside and can make any throw on the field with his cannon of an arm.
Considering Joe didn't take a majority of snaps in the preseason and wasnt intially slated to start the season.
Now the Ravens are at 11-5. Joe has done remarkable.
I believe the Ravens got better "value" for their draft pick.
They didnt have to give up future picks to move up in the draft to get Ryan
and management didnt have to shell out #3 overall pick money :P
So they have more money available to keep these free agents.

The fact that Flacco didn't get ONE vote is pathetic. Look at all the weapons Ryan has. Turner, Roddy White, Jerious Norwood, Michael Jenkins and even Harry Douglas. Still, I think Flacco will have a better career than Ryan.

And, Flacco didn't get a single first place vote. <_<
As Harbaugh said on the radio show tonight - there's more season to play and we'll see what we'll see as the it progresses.

I am kinda heated about this, this morning on ESPN they were talking about Matt and the other rookies that could have gotten the award, and they talked of Matt Forte, and a few others and didnt mention Flacco until the very end... The lady said "and maybe even Flacco" and they all giggled. I thought that it was very rude and degrading.

That sucks! I'm happy for Ryan but Joe definitely deserved some votes. Is the league blind, or what?

I dont think its to big of a stretch to say that Ryan had that thing all wrapped up before the season even started, if he had anything that resembled a good season. Johnson or Forte could have run for 2000 yards and Ryan would have probably still won.

There has to be at least one Baltimore writers who got a vote and I'm surprised he didn't vote for Flacco. Ryan deserved the award but it's not like he outplayed Flacco by much.
