Bring Owen Daniels back.

If Pitta's not back, definite yes. Even if Pitta's back, he will probably be on PUP so still bring him back. We need depth and experience. Draft an athletic TE if possible.

Owen Daniels was a key pick up this year, but him seemed to get nicked up every other game. Giving Daniels a 1 or 2 year deal for cheap would be fine as an insurance for Pitta ( I saw one article about Pitta status nothing more ).

I think Daniels status would depend on a few factors.

If Kubiak leaves Daniels may follow.

What the rest of FA TE market looks like.

If we draft a TE such as Walford, O'Leary in 3rd round area.

Man if Dennis Pitta can play next season and stay healthy then him and Owen Daniels(if re-signed) could be a  nightmare

Yeah, I want Daniels back. I really want to trust Pitta to come back healthy and Gillmore to become the next Heath Miller, but we need a safety blanket in case those things don't happen.

Exactly.  The way I'm looking at is that you operate as if Pitta isn't coming back.  If he does, that's just an added bonus.  You clearly can't count on a guy coming off of his second fractured hip.  Address the position like there is no Pitta, even though we all hope he comes back at full strength at some point.

I agree, but he moved the chains all game..I won't hold it against him. Same way I won't hol interception against joe. Just both made mistakes.

We lost this game on defense. But yes, if he catches that. We are running forsett to get JT into FG range to kick a game winner instead of needing a TD to win.

Yes it was the most critical drop of the game. if he catches it Joe has 5 TDS and one pick and we win it with a field goal .

I only worry that Daniels might be too old, slow, and injury prone to be a reliable safety blanket. I feel that the FO is gonna lean on Gillmore, and to a certain extent, Supernaw, to develop into serviceable starting tight ends.

Gillmore looked pretty good yesterday when Daniels missed snaps due to a minor injury. I wonder if a full year in an NFL strength and conditioning program can get him fast enough to be a full time starter.

Yeah ideally, if Pitta doesn't end up coming back, Daniels and Gillmore split snaps with Gillmore consistently getting more as the season goes on.  At least, that would be my hope.  Of course, it would also depend on who else we add at the position.

Regardless, if Daniels comes back at a similar rate (or a slight raise), I think he's a no brainer re-sign.  Despite his downfalls, he's been well worth the $1M we signed him for.

I'd like to personally see us get younger at the TE spot and more aggressive playmaking WR's.

Crockett Gilmore is clearly the future number 2 tight end but with the unknown factors with Dennis Pitta injury it may be wise to re-sign Owen Daniels to atleast give Flacco a player that knows the offensive system.

Hell yeah he was. Worth every penny.

If we can keep him at a reasonable price, definitely.  I don't see him as #1, but will provide valuable depth. I don't see Dennis playing again(ouch!), but Gilmore looks as though he may have a lot of room to improve. We need one of those roundball power forwards that want to make more playing football.

I know I said I wanted Daniels back, but I'm starting to think with Pitta/Gilmore/Juice we would be fine at TE. Gilmore showed flashes of what he can become, we know what Pitta can do. Juice has shown his ability to be a good pass catching TE as well. If Daniels doesn't want to take a 1 year deal, let him leave. Only if Pitta retires would I say to offer a 2-3 year deal, max followed by drafting another TE in the draft. Otherwise, sign him to another 1 year deal, and we would be set with Pitta/Gilmore/Juice for next season.

You aren't going to know Pitta's situation until well after you need to make a decision on Daniels.  I think it'd be foolish to bank on Pitta coming back.

and not just coming back but being back if you know what I mean.

I am really nervous for the guy.  he is on 98ROCK from time to time and he says his heart is set on coming back and I fully believe him.  But some times the body and the mind are at odds.

Yep.  You can talk all you want but you never really know until you get hit that first time.

That mindset is understandable however, you leave out the age factor of Daniels.  Besides, I doubt that Pitta comes back!  With that being said, unleash the young lions that we already have on the roster and let them roar.  I believe that Gillmore and Supernaw standing at 6'6 and 6'5 could be and would be beasts for us IF given the opportunity.  And for that to happen....you got to get rid of these old guys.

Ehh. He played well, but had a bunch of drops man... His biggest , being the picture perfect laser that flacco threw to him in the endzone... But alas, we're let down in NE by another Free Agent aqusition from the offseason.

That was one of the biggest non-catches since the Lee Evans drop.

Yup, likely the game winner or gave us the ability to win with a FG in the final drive!

Definitely bring Owen back. Then we can draft a wideout in the first round or second. Lot of talent once again, I'm feeling Kevin White big time.

daniels drop was the difference betweenflacco being 5/1 vs 4/2 on tds/int. that being said the ravens never expected daneils to play the role that he played. he was supposed to complement pitta. in the end he was dependable receiver who got a lot more reps then anticipated. he could be named one of the ravens MVP's.

Not necessary.  With Dennis Pitta expected to return, and Crockett Gillmore developing nicely, plus a TE we could pull in the 4th or 5th, plus the less likely option of Phillip Supernaw, we are set at TE.  That being said, there is no guarantee Pitta will be 100% and the same Pitta from 2011/2012, and there is no guarantee Gillmore will be as good as we think he can be.

It all depends on Daniels' price tag.  I would take him back if the price is right.

That sure TD pass he dropped keeps flashing in my mind...I need time to get over it to give an unbias opinion about bringing Daniels back. I really wanted Flacco to get his 5th TD, it really could have helped them win.

Flaccos needless throw is what stuck in my mind..we had the perfect amount of time to win the game leaving no time for brady to launch a comeback..it really was a stupid play by joe

I think Owen would come back at a reasonable price. I'm sure a lot of these vets want a Ring before they retire, Stevie included. With a above average secondary we're Superbowl bound in my opinion.

do you really think that? Gilmore was drafted more for his blocking prowess(very valuable in our offense) more than his receiving ability. I don't think he can take a featured role.  we need to acquire a young receiving tight end somehow. im fine with securing daniels if was cheap but otherwise I'd let Ozzie try to find one in FA. dont think anyone in the draft can make the impact we want immediately.

Up to OD. No mystery that he needed a lot of time off to get his legs back but he made good plays this season and stepped up when Pitta went down. He's probably considering retirement.

Nobody in this day and age drafts a blocking tight end in the third round unless they think he can become a receiver.
