Anyone Else Uneasy?

I suppose it may seem silly, but I'm a bit wary of all the credit that national media has given the Ravens ever since the Pittsburgh game. It may just be me, but it seems like we play our best football when nobody gives us a chance, and it feels like more and more sports pundits are expecting us to upset New England.

Over the years, we've had a tendency of falling into "trap games", or games that we should have won. The Texans game for example.

It's funny though, I for one have always felt like the media doesn't give the Ravens the respect they deserve, but now that we're starting to get it...I'm not sure if I'm comfortable.

I know where you are coming from. I've grown tired of hearing all the comments on how Flacco has outplayed Brady in recent playoffs and how the Ravens are the Patriot's "kryptonite" ... I'm sure Brady is out of his mind ready to prove that he's still the man and I really do think they hate us and are going to be super motivated.

The fact remains, we're still 7.5 point underdogs and, while many are giving us credit, the bottom line is they are saying we are going to give them a fight but most will still pick the Pats to win. Hopefully, the team just plays with that chip based on being underdogs and plays loose like we need to play.

But again ... I get what you're saying.

Yeah I don't like hearing everyone give us this credit right now, if they still are after the Super Bowl that will be fine haha but before then I would rather have everyone underestimate us.

I think its about time they gave us respect and all the glory we deserve.  This is the playoffs and we just beat The Steelers after 0-3 attempts.  I like it and enjoy the respect we earned.   The phrase "playoff Joe Flacco" is like a royal cape on a kings shoulders.

No. I don't credit the media or anyone else for that matter for the Ravens' success except for the Ravens and their fans.

We're smarter than to underestimate the Patriots in a playoff game just because we're getting a little respect.

We beat Denver in the divisional round and got a lot of respect then went on to still beat the Patriots and earned even more then won the Superbowl.

The Ravens being great is the reason.

Just because people are saying we have a chance doesn't mean they are expecting us to upset the mighty Pats. I doubt many will actually pick us to win.

I'm not uneasy, but I see where you're coming from. Like Skip Bayless (who coined the Joe Flacco' fluko phrase) and the rest that picked us to beat Pittsburgh...many of them are simply tired of eating crow every time we get the victory. They feel if they stay on the fence long enough they'll be able to save face later.

I say..."Let them eat crow!" by I'm not nervous about it at all. Raven Fans are not the drones that they are looking for.

kraft has paid off the media to talk up the Ravens. He figures we spanked them repeatedly in the playoffs when we were ignored, so he needed to try change the mojo.   :P

Agreed, but all the talk about New England (A fundamentally better team than Pittsburgh) needing to be firing on all cylinders to pull out a win is a far cry from last week when the majority of "experts" picked us to lose even with Bell being out.

Worry not. Just take a gander below to see how much so-called "respect" we're getting lol

Nice. Thanks for that.

Still don't like hearing how we're the last team NE wanted to face/their nightmare.

Even though I forget where it's from lol

You pretty much summed up the way I feel. All this credit that the media are suddenly giving us is really pissing me off. I think as a franchise, there isnt another team that feeds off the 'us against the world' mentality like we do. Just wish they'd doubt us for a few more weeks.

Yep - they'll talk us up, but it is mainly to indicate that they think we're the kind of team that can give them a game.

But when push comes to shove and they've got to make a pick, they pick the favorite.

I'm more uneasy about the fact that the pats kicked the tar out of us last time we played them last year and everyone is acting like it didn't happen

I don't know.  I feel like the patriots and Ravens have the same feelings.  The Patriots know they're better, and at home, but we travel well and we're not afraid of them.  But we beat them 2 years ago and they were lucky to beat us, so I think the respect is nice.

But whenever you beat a team in the playoffs and travel to their home, that's the hardest matchup.

You mean where Brady scored 14pts in the first quarter and then the defense held him to 6 pts the next 2 quarters? Where they scored on another TD on their very last possession with just under 4 mins left when the game was over? And then Taylor came in and gave them a fumble in the end zone for another quick TD and a pick 6? The game where Flacco had a full leg brace on and couldn't move? That game?

Sure it happened. But I'm pretty sure that Flacco isn't donning that leg brace, baring something horrible Taylor won't be coming in and if the defense holds Brady to 3 pts for the 2nd & 3rd quarter - we'll outscore that.

hmmmm

our ability to beat the pats depends upon the media discounting us?

we can't win unless we are underestimated?

sounds like hocus pocus sorta like Mueller concluding the nfl never saw the red herring video

who cares? either we win or we don't. we're legitimate underdogs. if we win...amazing, but we're supposed to lose. all of the pressure is on the patriots. that's why their fans are all over this board trying to convince themselves they're still the prettiest girl at the ball.

enjoy the ride

The Patriots have played nice in the media this week, their Boston media cohorts not so much, lol.   I think the Patriots team is trying to lull the Ravens into thinking this will be a respectfully, fairly played game...and I think this game will be anything but that.

I've watched too much football to fall for that one and I know the Ravens have also.  I'm pretty sure they did this same "play nice in the media, don't piss them off" thing the in the last couple of games, and look what they did...that bush league move by Brady on Ed Reed, that hit on Pitta, and that underhanded play with the backup QB pitching to Brady, Brady hiding behind the official, etc, I could go on, but you get the point, lol.  I expect there is more to come on the field Saturday because I see this is a win at all costs for them.  Did you notice the Belicheck voice over in the NFL's promo?   "One stupid play, one stupid penalty, one mistake".  Think about it.  Brady and Belicheck don't like being disrespected.  So what do they do, pay respect to their opponents then if they win they come out smelling like a rose.

The Boston media did the bad guy routine for the Patriots this time with the really bad public relations attempt at reverse psychology.  Hernandez jury selection starts tomorrow.  What better way to take the heat off the Patriots than to suggest “The most deplorable organization in American professional sports..." is coming to town in an attempt to drag out our misperceived baggage to cover their own confirmed suitcase of warts.  It was amusing!

Make no mistake the Patriots are being nice for a reason...when the Patriots' play on the field dictates otherwise.  The Boston Media is gearing up for an "I told ya so" if we lose.  Wonderful that the Mueller Report came out today isn't it?  The national media, well...its the national media, lol.  Just as in the movie, the Wizard of Oz said: "Pay them no mind"!

I'm always nervous before a game I would be more worried if the talking heads were overflowing our bandwagon . I have seen one analyst pick us and that was on the link ravensdfan provided

theres so much slight of hand going on with the pundits.

you got heath evans and the old has been / never was McGinnis on NFL network saying the pats are a shoo in because they've had 2 weeks to prepare for the ravens.  Really?  so the pats assumed from the inception we'd get by a surging Pittsburgh and began planning for us immediately?

come on men, give us a break from your lunacy

none of this chicanery matters. everyone knows the pats are the leagues most ethically challenged team. we will beat them if we are committed to play every minute and beat on them.  we will win if the refs call the game fairly.  we will win on our talent. we will win on these things or we will not win at all and all of the pat hijinks past, present and future won't matter in the least.

...

NFL media are giving Flacco tons of credit and they should. Ravens fans have to learn to live with being respected. We still are sixth seed, 7.5 underdog and facing the "Don't bet against Brady and Bill Patriots" at their home field. With the exception of Chris Berman the ESPN analysts will go with the Patriots because they should. The Pats have beaten top tier teams all year and have played like the best team in football outside of the Seahawks. We are in a perfect position because we will be loose and not tight. We can play aggressive and unpredictable. ALL the pressure is on the Pats. If we get a double digit lead we really can dictate the game.

Well, depending on the status of Monroe, we'll have either 7 or 8 different starters on offense to go along with five or so on defense, not to mention completely different depth. The majority of our players won't even have that game in their memory banks.

I am uneasy before any game the Ravens play because our offense just thrives on making me uneasy! I was uneasy going up against Jacksonville, so you can figure I am deadly uneasy going up against NE in Foxborough. But, having said all that, this game should have very little pressure on the Ravens. They have already exceeded all expectation getting to this game considering all the injuries and adversity they've been through. So, I expect them to play loose and tough against the Pats! The pressure is really on the Pats much more than on the Ravens. They should be rustier than the Ravens considering they've been resting.

Brady is going to be under tremendous pressure to shake off the Ravens pass rush and make plays. Belichick is under the gun having lost almost all the playoff games against us in Foxborough. So, I like our chances if our coaches put together a great game plan and we play like we want to win. Most importantly if Flacco continues his no turnovers in the playoffs trend (going to be awfully difficult), we may actually win this game and live to see another Sunday!
