Updated: Who Should Be Our Next OC? It's Trestman

Some interesting points, but I'm not sure what exactly you're saying in reference to my statement. Help me out.

Just an add-on in agreement, mostly.

A lot of people want us to keep the system and hire somebody who can run it. I disagree with that logic.

Got it. I'd agree with that. Thanks.

They are interviewing him tonight in Phoenix.  Per Ian Rapport on NFL network.... I don't think it's that the people he's worked with don't want him...  He was interviewing for a couple of HC jobs too....  He and Teryl Austin both...  but, he is said by more than one person to fit the Ravens well.

Perhaps.

Here is what I found out and like about Gase....

Adam Gase enters his sixth year with the Denver Broncos and his second season as the club’s offensive coordinator after being named to that position on Jan. 17, 2013. Prior to his position as offensive coordinator, he spent two seasons (2011-12) coaching Denver’s quarterbacks and two years (2009-10) instructing the club’s wide receivers. In Gase’s first season as offensive coordinator, the Broncos set the NFL single-season scoring mark (606 pts.) and became the first team in 45 years to top 50 points in three separate games. The team’s scoring differential (+10.1 ppg) over the league’s second-ranked scoring offense was the second-highest in professional football history to the 1941 Chicago Bears (+12.5 ppg).

^ Impressive!

Haha any OC could put up those stats with Peyton Manning and a nuclear arsenal of weapons on offense! Lol but in all seriousness, I think we can get a potential Gase hiring to work much in our favor if Ozzie decides to hire him

I guess we should just hire or promote mediocre or bad coaches, so at least they won't leave.

We won't be very good on the football field, but hey, are coaches don't leave, so that's something.

Dont know when I voiced anything about looking for dud coaches so we can keep them. My message is that some of these coaches that comes here are for one thing. Themselves and nothing else. I like to see some coaches stay here for a while longer than 1-2year. Especially on offensive side considering how much changes we are having lately.

This is developing in a way that we could have just swapped OCs and QB/TE coaches with Denver, saving us couple sleepless nights in the process.

Maybe added a draft pick too.

Did you see that he is actually interviewing tonight? Saw that we'd asked permission to interview and that Rapoport stated we plan to interview him "soon".

Schefter tweeted that the interview takes place tonight. Or might have been Rapaport

Every coach that I can think of has the goal of becoming a HC. They have an incentive to be great coordinators/coaches for whatever team they work for so that people will desire them as a HC.

Frankly, I'd question the desire of our FO to hire a coach who is content with just being a coordinator forever. Shows a lack of drive and no desire for growth.

The more I read on Adam Gase the more I kind of want him here. If Manning loves him and trusts him like that, he has to be doing something right.

Says Stokley on Ravens:

"...Coming from the 2013 season to the way they played last year offensively..."

Last time I checked, he was a part of that offense, too.

To be fair, in the article he did say

" You saw the year before where the offense just struggled so bad, and I was there for that year and it was hard believing that they were going to bounce back as well as they did this year."

Heh, I got upset too early and felt the urge to comment. Saw that when I returned to the article but the urge to comment had gone by then :P

I swear we run the lowest amount of shotgun in the league , and its not even like Flacco is bad in the shotgun.

Needs to change.

Lol, as I was reading this, NFL said that Denver ran out of the shotgun 78% of the time; Baltimore 24%.

Isn't Flacco really good out of the gun?

I remember reading an article that he was. Also eye test says yes too.

Not a bad thing actually. Quick passes helped Flacco stay off the turf this year. I think Flacco goes through his progressions faster when he's under center. Plus the fact that everything looks the same opposing defenses didn't know if we were going to run, pass, or play action. It worked very well. I just hope our next coordinator gives Flacco more control of the offense Kubiak had some bad game plans this year especially against every AFC South team Edited by Dewy101

The reality of the situation is gun vs. center don't make a difference for Joe numbers wise if you really break down the split statistics on ESPN and Pro-Football Reference - what makes a difference seems to be whether we're running a base 2 receiver 1 TE set, where he struggles, or a 3+ receiver set, where his numbers are on another level entirely.  It just so happens that the premise of the shotgun formation is to spread 3+ receivers out while giving the QB enough space and time to compensate for the diminished blocking up front, so Joe sees more 3 receiver sets in shotgun than under center.

Gase has had interest all over the map, with the Bears, Raiders and Jaguars all in play at some level. But Baltimore might be quickest fix for a guy looking to polish up a resume before future head coaching interviews.

I can't blame him if he wants to be a HC, but consistency would be nice.

If you want to be a head coach, become a Raven... it also works for secondary players if you want to suffer a season ending knee injury.

Interestingly enough he doesn't believe Torrey will be back next year either. I think he may be right.

The more I read on Adam Gase, the more I'm softening to the thought of him for this very reason. It sounds like his scheme relies a lot on the QB getting a read on the defence and working from there.

I'm still a bit dubious of his record because of his work with Peyton, but I guess I could be convinced to come off the ledge if we hire him.

I know there's a lot of talk about our next OC but we should really consider bringing in Vic Fangio to the defensive side. At least as an assistant to the linebackers coach he has a lot of knowledge to give to our young LBs

If Fangio doesn't get a gig as DC, that would be a great choice. Unfortunately, he will.
