Updated: Who Should Be Our Next OC? It's Trestman

665 posts in this topic

Del Rio is the new HC in Oakland...

And I have no doubt that anybody inquiring about Gase would be interested in those comments and recommendations also...

But there are some who are still confused why he hasn't been getting HC offers yet and why he is seemingly struggling to even find an OC gig...

Going from being the OC with Peyton in Denver to potentially being an OC in Jacksonville is essentially a demotion in most people's eyes, and you could argue it would be one going to Baltimore as well...

Right, forgot that with all the Trestman talk going on

I think people have the same concerns as everyone on here- how much was it attributed to Manning? I think that's a huge concern, but I'm willing to bet on it being a good deal of Gase and it's a risk reward situation that could be huge

This thread has been "stolen" to be our "Next OC" thread since that's what it's about.

My head hurts.....lol. These threads change daily it seems

Doug Marroone may actually be a good fit for us. A hurry up west coast offense and a zone run scheme is what he can install.

Adam Gase is the best option with Kyle Shanihan going to Atlanta. Lane Kiffin may leave Alabama for SF. Tom Herman from Ohio State would be great but he is the new U. of Houston coach.

It's not helping Joe to have a new staff every year and yet he keeps winning. He played much better against New England than Luck did.

It's not like they were just saying he was a good coordinator or smart. They're calling him a genius and one of the brightest minds in football. That's not coach speak, in my opinion

I would agree with this statement

If Gase is hired, I'd like to bring in Broncos TE Virgil Green - good run blocker with receiving potential

You guys think he'll be hired tonight?

Doesn't really matter. Seems like every coaches on ravens are being promoted to HC every year. He'll leave soon as he uses us just like every other coaches that comes here and bounces out soon as they get the chance.

I'd rather have a top notch OC every year who leaves than a subpar one who nobody wants. We can't hire conservatively based on fear that the person will leave. Continuity is important yes, but so long as the overall philosophy remains the same - I don't see a problem.

Another consideration - Jim Hostler as QB coach. Bills are bringing in whole new staff. Hostler has coached both WR's and QB's before (Alex Smith in San Fran). Has good experience overall with O. Players like him here

I guess we should just hire or promote mediocre or bad coaches, so at least they won't leave.

We won't be very good on the football field, but hey, are coaches don't leave, so that's something.

I agree with most of what you said. Continuity is important as long as the scheme stays consistant. However just because a candidate is not in the 'vetted' coaching carosal doesn't mean they are sub-par and/or unable to be successful. They just haven't been found. Football's a simple game.

There have been very few innovators so why get caught-up and limit our thinking to only a re-cycled selective few, because they coached with 'this' guy, is so-and-so's son, they use to back-up that other dude and/or they're in the 'good ole boys club'.

Bold thinking gets bold results. I hope we find the perfect OC match, but continuity for Joe should take priority above so called 'top-notch'. Top-Notch in this league is sometimes just another word for 'hacks'.

The absolute worst case scenario that comes from this is that the Ravens become so committed to the Kubiak system that they hire a guy who they think can run that offense but can't, and we spend multiple years trying to realize this.

Just hire whoever you think the best OC would be... its that simple for me. I don't care about scheme or anything else... good coaches tend to not have problems making their scheme work or adapting their scheme to the personnel we have.

If we're spending our search chasing the next Kubiak, we are going to come up short every time...

Adam Gase could help boost our passing attack for sure. He is a mastermind at designing plays creating mismatches for receivers. And obviously old man Peyton even with his noodle arm nowadays has excelled in Gase's QB friendly offense. The only area he has been somewhat flawed in is the running game. But according to Elway and Manning the running game has improved.

I think if Gase gets hired he will draw up a plan to keep our offense high powered going into 2015.

I'd like to have Gase. It would be great to have a OC that's in great relationship with his QB's. Gase is great at schemes and mismatches. Imagine that matchup problems we can create with White or Strong with Torrey opposite. I also feel like it gives Torrey a chance to play better, he wasn't fitting well in Kubiak's scheme TBH. This could be a blessing in disguise. Who knows? lol

I expect the next 2-4 years with another Cam Cameron.  The Ravens hit with Jim Caldwell and Gary Kubiak... I just feel a miss coming on this time.  Still the pass attack can't get get much worse than it was this past season.  We never came through in the clutch in big games.  I also don't see the run game remaining the same and I don't think Justin Forset has it in himself for another 1,000+ rushing yard season.  He will get a nice contract then get hurt or just not produce like he did this past season.

Bottle half empty is how I am looking at this offseason. I still have some hope as a fan things will get done right and be successful in 15/16 campaign.

Jim Caldwell wasn't a hit, he wasn't a very good OC.

I don't care much for Vinny Cerrato but he made a good point...why isn't Del Rio clamoring for Gase in Oakland? Why not Fox in Chicago?

If the people you work with don't want you...?

Not to mention he was a HC candidate. What happened? Something is off.

Some interesting points, but I'm not sure what exactly you're saying in reference to my statement. Help me out.

Have you ever considered a possibility that Gase might not want to coach at Oakland or wants a change from Fox?

Or that he likes future with Flacco better than future with Cuttler/Carr?

I agree... its says something.

But... there probably isn't another candidate who you couldn't ask the same questions about...
