Updated: Who Should Be Our Next OC? It's Trestman

665 posts in this topic

He doesn't run a vertical offense like Cam they're all quick short throws with screen passes. He ran the ball a lot with Forte. Forte caught the ball on check downs often too. People are just getting carried away. Remember he had the 2nd best scoring offense in 2013. Injuries to alshon, brandon Marshall and O line hurt them. Not to mention Culters dgaf attitude.

You realize how much we crap the bed with screens right? That isn't our strength and it was exactly a problem with Cam. Never used the middle of the field. Abandoned the run completely at times when he shouldn't. When run heavy when it wasn't working. History shows this guy is kind of a lot like Cam. Only without the vertical game  so now we just won't score at all.

True, true.

Anyway I agree this is going to be a great fit and he isn't as pass happy as one would think.  He still ran the ball well and had a bunch of short passes in the game with multiple formations and movement plays.

Even better he will provide continuity as I don't see him getting another HC opportunity being that he is 59 yo.  Now lets go get Greg Knapp as QB coach.

They're the Bears. That's funny IMO.

Your are absolutely right.  Bears fans would probably rather have Ditka has OC "not DC" and having the Fridge pound the rock.

bears fans are laughing at us on twitter…to be honest i understand why.

And Denver fans (who got our coach) are laughing at the Bears......so what does that say?

It's still a WCO style, so I'm good with it.  But his results in Chicago weren't so great.

That doesn't mean anything.  Norv Turner sucked at HC but was is a very good OC.

Trestman has a very good history as being an OC and his 2013 was excellent when Cutler went down.

His abandonment of the running game is my biggest concern.  I don't doubt that he'll be great for Flacco.  He turned Josh McCown into a competent QB, and I'm just going to assume that Cutler is a lost cause being that Trestman has had success with nearly every other QB.

If anything, I'm hoping that Trestman comes in and asks for a Brandon Marshall/Alshon Jeffery type of WR.

Slight caveat to that would be, though, that Chicago's defense this season was absolute garbage.  It's hard to argue for running the ball when you're defense gives up 30+ points in 7 games.

his results were great in 2013, not with OC Killer Cutler in 2014.

If his results were as good as '13, he wouldnt be available now. Furthermore, he was head coach there and his D went to crap. Harbs wont let that happen. Trestman is solely responsible for the offense.

Flacco makes better decisions than Cutler.

Also true.  I'm making it a point to look at his overall history rather than recent history.  The Bears were such a mess last year.

Yeah that's what I noticed looking up the numbers - a lot of those games he had no choice but to pass, pass, pass.  That shouldn't happen in Baltimore.

I am very meh about this. Soft, passes too much, not balanced enough. On the other hand, he's old, won't be a one year rental, and we can keep a decent system for a while. Also, our young assistant coaches will learn from him, and hopefully, they'll have some say in the gameplan. I wonder what this means for Castillo and co. Castillo is also a WCO guy, so he probably stays, unless Trestman is a man blocking guy. Hopefully our RB and WR coach stick around.

I'm gonna take a look at Chicago's offensive numbers in 13 and 14.

Look at Trestman's resume. It's no fluke, he's taken average QB's and made them great. Josh McCrown, Jake Plummer, Scott Mitchell Rich Gannon. He's a great offensive mind.

Screens are about timing. Proper coaching can help big time all Cam did was go deep every play. Forte only averaged 3.9 YPC in most part because of injuries to the offensive line, but he caught over 100 balls out of the backfield. Trestman was smart enough to know when to run the ball and when not too. Check down passes to RBs can substitute a run game. In 2013 Forte averaged 18.1 carries a game the second highest in his career to think he doesn't run the ball is nonsense. He was averaging 4.6 YPC.

Out of curiosity, what did we have Kubes signed to? I was under the impression coaches contracts dont really mean anything.

Pretty sure 2 years is the norm

They mean a coach can't make a lateral move without being agreed to by the team the coach is currently under contract with e.g. an OC can't become someone else's OC while under contract unless the current team agrees.  In Kubes' case, he made a vertical move from OC to HC; this is allowed.

Further to what Gordo said, they are not usually guarnateed.  And even if Kubs' contract was, he ended it.

I like the hiring...mainly because I think he will mesh with Flacco..Really hope the run game stays the same as it has worked out great so far. Trestman has had some big WRs in the past (in the CFL he had some big guys and Chicago obviosuly) kinda hope he pushes the FO to think about a no.1 with size on the outside...also he did a great job with Bennett so I am excited for whomever is lining up at TE for us

My only concern with trestman is the run game.  Is he going to stick with a ZBS?  Because I don't think our Offensive line fits very well with a power run scheme.

You would find that

I picture rmw just sitting around all day googling people's girlfriends, wives, and daughters (and maybe the occasional grandma).

I hope Chloe will wear Ravens jerseys as much as it appears she liked to wear Bears jerseys.

95% sure we stick to ZBS with some man power concepts as we had this past year.
