Updated: Who Should Be Our Next OC? It's Trestman

One good thing about Trestman is he should be here awhile and if not it is only because Joe threw for 7,000 yards and 60 TDs and we won the Super Bowl.

His abandonment of the running game is my biggest concern.  I don't doubt that he'll be great for Flacco.  He turned Josh McCown into a competent QB, and I'm just going to assume that Cutler is a lost cause being that Trestman has had success with nearly every other QB.

If anything, I'm hoping that Trestman comes in and asks for a Brandon Marshall/Alshon Jeffery type of WR.

so basically we bring in a guy who is pathetic at run schemes and that was our strength this year

not good at all.

i expect interceptions and QB sacks to go up

I actually like the Trestman hire.  I would have preferred Shannahan overall, but prefer Trestman over Gase.  To me, Gase is more just a hot name.  He has really had a lot to work with in Denver (Manning, O-line, WRs, TE).

Trestman should help Flacco continue to progress.  My biggest concern is the play-calling like others have stated.

History of Cam Cam type playcaller. Not impressed really. Feels like a big regression right now.

Kubiak has always created a top notch offense on both sides of the attack

the same cannot be said for trestman.

This is actually really bad. Flacco is and never will be good throwing the ball constantly..infact he might turn into cutler.

Lol Flacco didn't turn into Schaub when Kubiak was coaching what does that tell you?

Statistically  Trestman does really well in his first year with a team, his production takes a huge step down in his second year. Look up what has happened to all of his offenses in year 2, his play calling becomes very very predictable. It doesn't makes sense to pair Falco to an OC that wont take advantage of his arm.

Yea.  Cutler has always been a duck even before Trestman.  Just because Cutler did it, doesn't mean Flacco will as well.

Well, after those reports on Gase I really hope Knapp is our QB coach. I think he'd be a great hire. Knapp at QB coach and Clancy Barone as TE coach.

We wont be pass happy. Ozzie and harbs wouldnt have hired him if that wasnt talked about ad nauseum. and if he shows tendencies harbs will reel it right back in. Hes an amazing HC for that reason. He's hands off until things need pulling back in.

The guy took the chicago bears, who routinely were touted as a strong defense and ST with nothing on offense to the 2nd best offense in the league under MCCOWN.

You can throw the names out all you want, Bennett, Jeffery, Marshall, Forte. Great. And what happened this year? You cant just throw big names on a field and produce.

Trestman just needs a QB who will listen and be open. Cutler is not. McCown was. Look at what McCown REALLY was 1 year after leaving Trestman. Got beat out by Glennon. So if Trestman can pull 1 year of success out of a guy like that im happy. I mean, this is Baltimore, all we're looking for is 1 year of success right?

He doesn't run a vertical offense like Cam they're all quick short throws with screen passes. He ran the ball a lot with Forte. Forte caught the ball on check downs often too. People are just getting carried away. Remember he had the 2nd best scoring offense in 2013. Injuries to alshon, brandon Marshall and O line hurt them. Not to mention Culters dgaf attitude.

if you look at the rushing attack of trestmans teams..they have been pretty crap.

This is not a good hire..

whatever

The way the league is going passing the ball more could be a good thing, of course there should still be some balance but I don't see how that's the basis for this being a bad hire.

I kinda called it  :tmnt:

Trestman is an offensive genius. Great fit.

I called this prior to the Houston game.  Had a feeling we would be losing Kubes because of the year the team was having.

Kubiak just set the bar so high for first year OC's.... Good chances are, the offense will regress....Oh well. As long as it's good enough to win with.

We won't know exactly what to expect until we see them in action. Like I did with Kubiak last season, I think it's fair to reserve judgment until around week 6-8. It's a brand new job for Trestman so I also won't hold his past flaws against him. He's still learning and figuring the NFL out like everyone else. He's a former QB too which is a plus.

I don't think he'll be incredibly pass happy if we don't have anyone special to throw to.... So we'll see

I am very meh about this. Soft, passes too much, not balanced enough. On the other hand, he's old, won't be a one year rental, and we can keep a decent system for a while. Also, our young assistant coaches will learn from him, and hopefully, they'll have some say in the gameplan. I wonder what this means for Castillo and co. Castillo is also a WCO guy, so he probably stays, unless Trestman is a man blocking guy. Hopefully our RB and WR coach stick around.

I'm gonna take a look at Chicago's offensive numbers in 13 and 14.
