Is Suggs a HOFer

50 posts in this topic

Suggs does a lot more than sack the QB, he can stop the run and cover and get Ints.

One of the most complete olb I've ever seen. Very smart as well.

I hope he makes it, though I can't say he'll be a first ballot like Reed, Lewis and JO. He's one of those underrated players, who doesn't fully get the credit he deserves, to me.

he wont be first ballot, but i think he gets the nod within 10 years of being on the ballot, unless something catastrophic happens like a ray rice situation. he is the most complete OLB of his time, without question, for him to get his type of sack numbers while playing against strictly LT's and also getting TE blocks on nearly every snap, and while also having much more responsibility than just pass rushing, its impressive, if dumervil stayed on the field for every snap and didnt have an upshaw to do the dirty work, you can bet he doesnt have all the sacks he has right now. suggs does it all and is a clear cut leader on this team, the best OLB in the league of the past decade, because it takes more than rushing the passer to be the best, von miller is up there with him but he hasnt done it nearly as long and consistent as sizzle, he is a legend at the OLB position.

id say he'll be in,

Triple digit sacks on his resume, DPOY , Superbowl Champ, a difference maker, a play maker and he still isn't done.

a definite yes.

-Superbowl 47 Champion

-106.5 career sacks so far

(HOF Warren Sapp has less than 100)

-AFC Champion (2012)

-6x pro bowler so far

-1st team All-Pro (2011)

-2nd team All-Pro (2008)

-AP DPOY (2011)

-AP Defensive rookie of the year (2003)

-Ravens Franchise sack leader

and that's just in the pro's.

that's not just a yes. that's a Heck yes... and he's adding to those numbers every year.

being the league leader in sacks against THE toughest qb to bring down who is a hall of famer in his own right, and being near the top all time in playoff sacks are 2 huge stats you missed. another 2-3 season of 2 or more playoff games and i think he blows the playoff sack record out of the water.

big ben is 3rd on the list in terms of current HOF qb's, and suggs has sacked him far more than any other player, nobody will catch up to him in that sense, that will also do alot for his resume.

Give him a couple years of good production and he has a decent chance. Can't really say for sure right now but he has the potential.

I think he will, because when I look at some of the OLB with whom he will compete, I think he really stands out above probably all of them or at least at the very top with a select few. He has done this for a while now, and his longevity will be a bonus for him. His ability to be a complete OLB will also help, because few can do that and put up the numbers he does. With the DPOY on his resume, he has few accomplishments he has not received. He was the DROY for his draft class. He has been to 6 Pro Bowls. I think he'll get in.

This in my opinion is why he gets in and if the "sportswriters" don't vote him in I'll know once and for all that they don't actually watch football games that aren't on Sunday nights or Monday nights.  He's the best all around OLB of his decade and it's not even close.  The only other guy in his realm for best actual OLB and not just pass rusher, is Harrison and Harrison only did it for 4 or 5 years.

I actually think he is first ballot. Complete players with that many sacks are very rare. The sacks alone would probably be enough to get him in; the rest, I think, makes him a lock.

I'm more with the school of thought that he will eventually get in but not as a first ballot hall of famer. I love Suggs and his resume speaks for itself but i just don't see him getting in maybe after 2-3 more years of solid play he can get in right away. He is a great player and definitely deserves to get in it will just be a question of how long it takes.

Strahan got in. Is he really any better than Suggs?

No.   Statistically right now Suggs is about on par with Strahan, and Suggs still has years left to play.  Strahan had the benefit of playing for a big market team like the Giants, and therefore got much more exposure.

Also rushed against RTs his whole career. Guys that are HOFers and beat LTs on Sunday's is more impressive to me.

Of course Suggs is a Hall of Famer.

He will likely retire with around 130-140 sacks, 35~ Forced Fumbles, 10 Interceptions, Defensive Player Of The Year and Defensive Rookie Of The Year honours, (at least) a Super Bowl ring.

Seems like a fine resume, to me.

That is a good point.   I bet if he was a Raven though he wouldn't be in the conversation.   If Suggs played for the Giants and had his same career stats it would be no question.

Suggs will get in, don't worry. His numbers will be too good to ignore.

YES!!

He's won defensive rookie of the year, defensive player of the year, is a Superbowl champion, triple digit career sacks, FF's, FR's, interceptions and pick 6's, and not only is he great at rushing the passer but he is also great against the run and sets the edge. He's great in every aspect.

Agree. I was going to say the same thing. I felt as though adding triple digit sack totals to his resume was the final piece. Another or multiple SBs would make him a shoo-in. I don't know that he's first ballot, but he's in, in my books. Adding another ring or two and consistent numbers would make him a shoo-in.

He's a first ballot guy imo but I doubt that voters would agree. He is a rare breed. You'd find it tough to find a handful of players who have the complete package that Sizzle has. Elite pass rusher, elite run defender and excellent in under coverage. The only LB's who come close imo are Von Miller and Justin Houston and they're both young. If he gets to around the 130 career sacks mark I'd say he's a definite first ballot hof'er. His lack of All-Pro selections is astounding. Just shows me how little the voters actually watch Sizzle play.

Like the Flacco thread let's wait until he retires and see. Again, way too soon and not the right time. A lot of factors go into that and other posts (good points) spell that out. Focus on the here and now, namely the Patriots.
