Is Suggs a HOFer

50 posts in this topic

just got done watching rewind and the announcers were saying Suggs will be a HOFer. is Suggs the fourth Ravens HOFer behind JO, Ray and Reed. i thought Jamal might get a shot but you never hear his name mentioned. i knew Suggs was good but i didn't think he was HOF material because he was overshadowed by Ray and Reed.

do you think Sugggs gets in?

He has reached triple digits for career sacks, has a DPOY on his resume, and is really charging towards the top of the all time leaderboard for career playoff sacks. The team can help his case with another ring. If we somehow get labeled "team of the decade", then we will get the benefit of the doubt for a lot of the borderline HOFers. Those teams get everyone inducted.

I say yes. As mentioned above, has a lot of personal accolades and a ring. And NOW is the leader of this team. Another ring this year or in the next 2-3 years, I say its a guarantee.

If he never played another game, it's borderline. But, by the time his career ends, and you have to think he has at least 2-3 years left, I think it'll be a lot more obvious. As long as he plays more games than he misses between now and the end of his career, I think he'll have earned that HoF status. Winning a ring without Ray Lewis would really go a long way toward helping his case, now that he's pretty much the leader of the defense, if not the whole team.

as of right now, i honestly dont know, i would clearly like to say yes.  I think it has more to do with what he does in the next 2-3 years.  if he stays productive or/and we win a superbowl with him, then for sure.

The announcer saying that during the game also made me ask the same question. And in my honest opinion...I really don't know.

If love for him to get in. He's been a lifer. And has always embodied the Ravens way.

Of course he is. 6-7 guys get in every year. Do you really think there are going to be 6 guys who retire the same year as Suggs and are better?

(Yes, other waiting list players could get in before Suggs, but then Suggs would be one of those waiting list players that would eventually get in. Let's just say for arguments sake that he's competing with his contemporaries.)

YES!!

He's won defensive rookie of the year, defensive player of the year, is a Superbowl champion, triple digit career sacks, FF's, FR's, interceptions and pick 6's, and not only is he great at rushing the passer but he is also great against the run and sets the edge. He's great in every aspect.

Also, I need help.. I have a customized Suggs jersey that says T-Sizzle on the back, I would love for him to sign it cause i want to frame it. Any advice on how I can get his autograph?? He's may favorite player.

GO RAVENS!!!

By the time it's all said and done? Yes! If it ended today, it's very close! He's an all-time Ravens great for sure and is one of the most versatile ayers at his position ! He's not just a sack artist

I think besides what everyone has said there are two things that work in Sugg's favor that in my opinion, as long as he can have another 2-4 years of really good solid production.

1. He did a lot of his damage in his career without having that premier rusher on the other side. Playing in a 3-4 system he has been matched up with some of the best left tackles in the game throughout his entire career and still has triple digit sacks and counting. He also typically makes the big sacks in the big games so he elevates his level of play on the bigger stages.

2. He is not just a sack specialist. This guy is year in and year out considered one of if not the most complete outside linebacker in the entire game. Go back and watch the Pittsburgh game and the play where he just throws heath miller (a decent blocking tight end) to the side and crushes the running back for a huge loss. He does that game in and game out and you can probably count on one or two hands against every rush he's faced this year the amount of times he failed setting the edge.

Again if he has 2-4 more years of solid production on his current projectory  it's really hard to see how he wouldn't get heavy heavy consideration

Why not? Football history would be tough to write without Terrell Suggs, he's one of the great defenders at his position and a very memorable player. As long as he continues to put it all out on the field, I say yes.

I think so. A couple of years more and he would have played close to 15 yrs in the NFL and would be past the 100 sack threshold. Everybody recognizes that Suggs' main role is not just rushing the passer but stopping the run and edge setting as well! He is the most well rounded OLB in the league for a long time and the best in those skills.

Also, he is DPOY winner and a SB winner and has multiple pro-bowl credits to his name. He may probably not be a first ballot HOFer like Ray Lewis or Ed Reed, but I think he makes it! At the level he's been playing in the playoffs, he will deserve to be...

Strahan got in. Is he really any better than Suggs?

One word - NO! Two words - Absolutely not! Three words - Just ask Sapp!

I think he will, because when I look at some of the OLB with whom he will compete, I think he really stands out above probably all of them or at least at the very top with a select few. He has done this for a while now, and his longevity will be a bonus for him. His ability to be a complete OLB will also help, because few can do that and put up the numbers he does. With the DPOY on his resume, he has few accomplishments he has not received. He was the DROY for his draft class. He has been to 6 Pro Bowls. I think he'll get in.

He currently sits tied with Reggie White for third place in playoff sacks with 12. He's 2.5 behind second, and 4 behind the career leader. Those ahead of him are retired, and the closest active player still playing at a relatively high level is Clay Matthews at 7.5. Suggs has this record within reach. How could they possibly leave him out if he gets it?

Aside from Triple Digit sacks he has quite the resume plus a ring. Two more seasons of Double digit Sacks and he is in OR just another ring.

Football wise, I think Suggs has done enough already. With a little luck to stay healthy, the remaining 2-3 years will just be icing on the cake and the confirmation of him as a leader. Additionally he has a huge visibility and great personality that might tip the scale if there's any doubt.

For me, there is no doubt whatsoever. Sizzle is a true football star.

I hope so, but they'll probably pass him up a few times before inducting him. He hasn't been the ideal media darling like most 1st ballard inductees. Doing more in communities after retirement could help him mend some of the voters' fences.

He puts everything out there on the field and in-the-press and that's why we love him, but some of the voters...not so much.

As long as he doesn't retire the same year as demarcus ware. I reckon his rep of being a better pass rushes will lead him to getting in easier than suggs, even though suggs is the better player.

id say he'll be in,

Triple digit sacks on his resume, DPOY , Superbowl Champ, a difference maker, a play maker and he still isn't done.

a definite yes.

-Superbowl 47 Champion

-106.5 career sacks so far

(HOF Warren Sapp has less than 100)

-AFC Champion (2012)

-6x pro bowler so far

-1st team All-Pro (2011)

-2nd team All-Pro (2008)

-AP DPOY (2011)

-AP Defensive rookie of the year (2003)

-Ravens Franchise sack leader

and that's just in the pro's.

that's not just a yes. that's a Heck yes... and he's adding to those numbers every year.

To be fair they did play different positions, thats like saying "he deserves to be in because another HOFer - Safety Dick Lane - had less sacks than him," two different positions, there are a ton of players that have less sacks than him

what he did in the pros is all that matters...

Suggs, imo, is a HOFer for all the stated reasons. Another reason he should be a HOFer is his ability to run stop as an OLB. Many OLB's are always looking for sacks and maybe aren't as concerned w/ run stopping. Suggs however, is a dominant run stopping OLB and I think he deserves that recognition.

Honestly, it would be a travesty if he didn't. If he plays for 3 more years and only produces half as well that he has this season, he would be a shoe in.

GO RAVENS!!!

The best time is local autograph signings b/c the reserve autograph signatures during training camp for "kids only".  Other than that you only have 2 other options.  The open practices that they have at M&T/Naval Academy and before/after the game at the player's entrance at M&T.  Good luck!!
