Mcgahee Gives Reason For Off Year

85 posts in this topic

I think Willis should be able to come in a whatever weight he feels comfortable. He's the one who's going to be out there getting hit. If he feels like he needs the extra 5 pounds to absorb the hits, then let him have it, just like what Ray lewis has done. It's no use shaving 0.1 of your 40 time if you're on the bench, injured, because you don't have enough muscle mass to absorb the beating.
If we are to believe Willis, the coaches asked him to come to camp lighter than usual, so he stayed off the weights, and that has clearly hurt his perfomance. He knows better than anyone what weight he is comfortable at, and he has had enough success in his career to know what works for him.

Willis is contradicting himself. He came in to camp overweight but says he lost weight. He was out of shape but says he worked primarily on cardio conditioning. Either there is something physically wrong with him or he's a liar. Last year the Ravens were out of most games so defenses played soft and let him run more. Big deal. 1200 yards in a 5 - 11 season means nothing. I think Willis is just another Brian Billick softie.

If we were behind in games would be passing, wouldn't we?
Plus Willis was facing 8 man fronts on every running down, because the passing attack was awful. No softie would ever elect to play running back, or elect to play in the NFL, for that matter. Willis Soldiered on despite being nicked up most of the year because we had no passing offense, and no other running back to turn to (we had McClain, but we didn't know we had McClain) . If you want to bash him for poor performances this season, fine. But leave last season alone. He was our best offensive player by a mile.

As long McGahee runs hard and makes plays for the rest of the post-season, he can say anything he wants. The coaches will decide if they want to keep in the off-season.

I like McGahee but honestly, he shouldn't have a comment like this at this point. It's comments like these that had people in Buffalo calling him "trash" when he left. Running-backs are easy to come by, so even if he does leave, it won't be a problem. This guy would be the perfect replacement:

We wouldn't be throwing because we couldn't. Our only resource was to run the ball especially if the opposing defense was playng in a give-me game. They gave us the illusion that we can still come back while eating up the clock.
I DO FEEL COMPELED TO RETRACT MY STATEMENT ABOUT WILLIS' PERFORMANCE LAST YEAR. You are correct. I do indeed remember him running with much more authority. He had lateral movement and pushed the pile everytime. Willis was very difficult to tackle. He isn't doing any of that this year. Whatever is troubling him I hope he gets over it. He realy needs to stay quiet. Excuses can be demeaning.

This is very true. I think he needs to tell the coaching staff his issue with what they have asked him too. Not the media.

jk
I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, but that is true, Ray Lewis has been playing at a wieght that is like 10-15 punds heavier thatn his usual.
But he's still beastly

Well, you need to go over to his house, help him with his cardio, teach him some class, and figure out why for the majority of the season a grown man and a professional running back fell over at the first sign of resistance.
Whatever. Willis in his prime couldnt hold Jamal's jock strap in his prime. You guys are so obsessed with what Willis did last year that you want to give him chance after chance but Jamal gave us 10x more production then Willis will probably ever give us and no one was ready to give him another chance.
wow. I guess I worded that wrong. I should have said that Willis Mcgahee is better that Jamal Lewis right now, which is all that really matters, that is unless you have a time machine and can bring Jamal Lewis "in his prime" back here. I really don't care how he was "in his prime", he's not a raven now, and while I appreciate what he's done for the franchise, I've more or less moved on. You should probably do the same. Or convert over to the browns, or wherever he ends up.

How did this thread about McGahee get to talking about RayRay?
McGahee was a mistake from the outset. A very expensive mistake that we're now stuck with. Even last year, he was sucking wind/getting an I.V. on the sideline when we needed him to keep running the rock against the Bills. He has lousy work ethics, is stupid, and is immature (even his mother said that in interviews). All these things are even more apparent now. Gaither grew up fast this year; McGahee didn't, and most likely never will. His defenders? LOL. Too funny.
ahaha the mods on this forum are so ridiculous. They don't allow the insulting of posters, understandable, but some people need a kick in the teeth, for example this guy. He edits his message from the one i previously quoted, and STILL calls McGahee stupid. I'm not going to give up to a "warning" because I know what is right and what is respectful. "WhackoForFlacco" is not a respectful person, I have my right to say that and it still stands with the edited comment. Go ahead and keep editing me, I'll continue in silencing all the disrespectful haters. If you want to know how to respectfully criticize someone, follow one of the few, Neepo, as an example.

btw, "LOL. Too funny" isn't a response, it's actually quite childish in itself.

Jemal Started talking the SAME crap at the end of his Ravens contract. Willis is an idiot to say something like that.
thank you. im getting tired of all this hating on mcgahee. true he needs to stop whining but my man has been hurt. its funny how fast people want to throw you off the boat. he got freaking 1200 yards rushing last year and averaged over 4 a carry w/o any serious qb presence.

can we stop hating on him please
I agree. Every player goes through a bad year at least once in their career. We are doing what every other fan does, and that is complain and wanting to run the guy out of town. I guess since us Ravens fans didn't have a QB to run out of town, we chose McGahee. I have a good feeling for next year, McGahee I think will be convinced by Harbs to go to all the off-season workouts and stuff and he'll be back and have a big year, and I think we are going to see the rebound of McGahee in starting Sunday at Miami.
I see what Mcgahee is getting at. The coaches wanted him to be something hes not, and he tried, and its tough to do so. He wanted to impress them so badly that it ended up hurting him. McGahee is an excellent back and we need him for the super bowl run. McClain is good, but hes not close to the Mcgahee of last year. McGahee can make the big plays on the ground. Its obvious with the way McClain is being used that the coaching staff wanted a power back then a slasher type guy, and McGahee tried to be that guy, but it turned out it wasnt him. If McGahee needs/wants to be himself, the guy we saw last year, then i want to see him back next year. He doesnt ever disrespect the coaching staff in his statements. Now some may say that hes only playing for himself and i think thats kind of taken out of context. Hes more saying i can't let peoples perception of me be who i am, but rather i need to be who I am. I need to play for me.
After the quote in todays Sunpaper, he should be sat down the rest of the way. After the selfless way others on the Raven's have played this year, especially #85 Mr. Selfless, his presence would be an insult. To bring this out now going into the playoffs???????? SIT HIM DOWN!!

McClain is certainly capable to carry the running game and perhaps Rice can make it back as well.

na first it was clayton and willis now its just willis even though after a slow start with nagging injuries and an obvious miss communication about his body mass he still has the second best numbers and 7 td for us almost putting up the same numbers for us as mcclain but with way less caries. people just have no faith in their team and always feel their opinion is valid. Willis is still the man with a sick stiffarm from last year. he was just set back by a bad coaching decision SO GET OVER IT

Nobody would have a problem with Willis if he would just shut his mouth. There's no reason to throw your coaches under the bus, especially not right now. Keep it to yourself and stop being a distraction.

I think if you say something in context, the translation of it can be taken the wrong way. The thing he doesnt get is when your in the public eye you have to be careful with the things you say because it can be misconstrued and obviously its being interpreted in multiple ways (as you can see here with 5 pages) for that reason what he said was stupid.

Besides, Willis couldnt hurt this team if he tried, because Ray is his daddy and keeps everyone in line. When Ocho Cinco was acting nutty midseason who do you think cracked the whip and shut him up? 85 said Ray is his "spiritual father" and basically called him to tell him to shut up and play. I dont think we'll hear from Willis for a while.

thank you, glad someone understands. willis is a great football player...not a great speaker, but if any of you had an OUNCE of faith you'd take his comment for what they are, not search for some source of tormoil
