FlackAttack

The commentating during the Ravens and Steelers playoff game

118 posts in this topic

was absolutely horrid. I'm usually not the one to complain about commentating, but man, I've lost a whole level of respect for Chris Collinsworth. Dude should be fired. Extremely dull, only gave Ravens respect at very end of game when we had it in the bag, even then still seemed "shocked" that we won, almost like he was disappointed. Only got excited when the Steelers made plays. Total snooze fest.

I don't know, I wasn't annoyed by the commentary. I thought there were lots of props given to the Ravens through the game, especially our defense. Sure, they may have belabored the absence of Bell a little, but all in all, I didn't mind the commentary.

I have just watched the condensed version of the game. There is no real passion from the commentators, before Forsett fumbles the ball. Steelers bias, IDK, but not much love.

Hard to believe you had respect for Collinsworth to lose.

I really have always not liked him at all...  The Le'Veon Bell absence was duly noted before, throughout the game, and even after, even into this morning.  I'm with Flack Attack on this on....  I noticed even when Tuck kicked a FG....  "...and it's good" was said with such a lack of enthusiasm that he sounded disappointed that it was... I even commented about it to my husband.

Now, that being said...  We all know that the commentators do not like or respect the Ravens...  We just need to go out there and take care of our business.  Maybe one day they will.

For once I'm 100% with you.

He doesn't even bring much to the table from a football knowledge perspective

I think Phill Simms team and Dan Dierdorfs team both like the Ravens especially Flacco.

Respect? For Collinsworth? I  didn't  lose any respect for that dweeb. Can't lose what you don't have.

never had a problem with collinsworth before the game. but man did he bend over backwards for the steelers last night, to the point that made me wonder how he got the job in the first place.

Collinsworth always has and always will be a Steelers homer. Hate when he commentates our games.

No he isn't.

The hypocrisy in this thread is astonishing. Oh we hate commentators who aren't favorable to baltimore but will quickly point out those that are.

Does it really matter one way or another?

I was watching the earlier game and there was a flag on the field. The announcer said " I think that is on our team..... I mean the Cardinals "

I said to my wife.... " Did I just hear that ? "

I don't think Collinsworth really has a Steeler-bias as much as he just has an offense-bias, which makes sense considering he was a receiver. But, I've always found him annoying and he couldn't possibly be a bigger step down from John Madden. I think a good point was already made in this thread that, really, the commentary just wasn't entertaining or passionate, which is the whole point of having a color commentator, which Collinsworth is. He definitely doesn't stack up to John Gruden doing the Monday night games. I know some people don't like Gruden, but I think he's great and really adds entertainment value to commentary. He's very passionate and knowledgeable, and seems to respect all the players, or at least comes closer to it than anybody else that calls games.

Either way, I think we'd all be pleased if Collinsworth were replaced. Unfortunately, I think NBC is just going to settle for what they know. I seem to remember hearing about him signing a long-term contract to call games a while ago, but couldn't find any information about that online.

Im not sure if he's a homer. He played for the Bengals

Just a smidge. Poof. Now it's gone

You can throw Rich Gannon in on that boat

jaws is a great commentator for ravens games. prob the only commentator that praises flacco.

He gave a lot of love to Joe right after the game. He respects Joe.

I was telling my friend about this last night. Collinsworth would go nuts with excitement when the Steelers scored or made big plays. When we did anything noteworthy, he didn't have any passion. He did get excited once, when Ngata blew up the Center, got pressure and blocked the throw

Not sure if you guys know this, but Jaws watched Joe play in HS and knows his family.

I agree with this. No disrespect to anyone on these forums, but it seems like every game, Ravens fans complain about the announcers being biased against the Ravens. I think Rich Gannon is kind of annoying with his hypercriticism of our team, and I have no idea why he's allowed to do Ravens games, but other than with him, I never notice any obvious bias. I've heard Collinsworth give tons of praise to the Ravens and Flacco in the past.

I don't complain about commentators much because I think most complaints are WAY overblown, but they were absolutely horrible last night.

This. I'm mad were on NBC again next week. Are they doing the SB? Wondering why the games aren't on CBS...

I don't hate commentators either. Collinsworth to me, is just bad at his job.

"Whoever scores more should win this game".

Really. Is the sun hot too?

Just realized it's cause we keep playing on Saturdays why we're on NBC.

They were more boring last night than usual. Pretty much mentioned Bell 100 to one more times than our endless list of players on IR. Did not know Collensworh was a Pitt. homer.

And whenever they mentioned our IRs, they got it wrong. They kept saying 18, but it is 19.

Yeah, but you're really just nitpicking. The 19th guy went on IR, what, like 2-3 days ago? They probably we given the statistics early in the week and didn't update them.

Whether its 18 or 19 doesn't matter in the slightest, particularly when the 19th guy was mostly a gameday inactive for most of the season.

Fanboard fans think the refs and the commentators all hate the Ravens.

It is funny that I don't hear a lot of talk about the refs today... mostly because practically all of the "questionable" officiating calls in last nights game went the Ravens way.

Can we bring John Madden back? Isn't Collinsworth a Bengal homer? Or maybe he's just anti-Ravens? Either way I can't stand him.

For his counter part I have no problem with Al Michaels. He's not perfect, but still one of the better play-by-play commentators.

True...  but, if you're going to make points, they should be accurate.  These two messed up way too much last night.  It's the attitude of Collingsworth that is just unprofessional, at best.  "And..... the kick is good"?...  but said in almost a disappointing manner...  That was just one comment I'm using as an example.  Jacket....  while I agree with what most are saying here...  We just need to go out and do our thing.... AGAIN....  and earn what little the media gives us..
