MVP

Honestly they should just change it to a "Most outstanding player in the NFL" award IMO. Watt would have definitely won that, but for now he is clearly not the most "valuable". I think it'll be Rodgers though Brady isn't that far behind

So calling a DE/DT not very valuable because they play defense and then turning around and saying that an RB should win MVP makes sense? RB is a pretty common position nowadays which is shown by how much they get paid and where they get drafted. I mean I get it if you have Christian Ponder as your starting QB and fall just a few yards short of the rushing record, that is one thing. However, there are quite a few guys out there who could come in and do exactly what Murray did. If we went back 20 years ago you would have a case for him to win it but it is a passing league and QB is what sets teams apart. Did he have a great year and is he a good back? Obviously, but MVP? No.

It's not because he plays defense. It's because his impact was less than that of Murray's. To that very point, as I said in an earlier post, all the buzz over Watt this year is because he played defense AND offense. So, you have the "best player in the league" playing on both sides of the ball and you still can't make the playoffs? That's why he's not MVP. I would love for a defensive player to win the award and buck the current trend. But, Watt doesn't deserve it.

I said before that MVP should differ from Defensive Player of the Year, but it should also differ from Offensive Player of the Year. Those two awards should be for individual efforts. MVP should be about how it affected their team. Watt deserves recognition for his individual effort. But, how does the best player in the league and the most disruptive player on defense lead the 17th-ranked defense in the league? Not even in the top half of the league. Defensive Player of the Year, yes. MVP, no.

It is Most Valuable Player, Murray was valuable for sure but he is fairly replaceable with that O-line. There is no replacing guys like Rodgers or Watt. If Watt played on Dallas, and Murray played on the Texans, Houston still wouldn't have made the playoffs, I mean how can you with Fitzpatrick/Mallett/Keenum/Savage at QB? Team success is one thing but in the end it should be the most valuable player because that is what it is called. Murray isn't, honestly you could argue Bell was more valuable for the Steelers or Lynch was more valuable for Seattle.

Here is my problem with Watt getting MVP.

The award is most VALUABLE player.

With Watt the Texans are middle of the pack.

With out Watt the Texans likely remain middle of the pack.

I see your point but I also believe watt was the mvp for several games and don't think the texans would have the same record without him

Rodgers won MVP after all that. I'm disappointed JJ didn't win it, but Rodgers is a consolation of sorts.

They should just change it to MVQB though.

Since 1957, it has been won by a QB or runningback. Only two defensive players have ever won the award. I am surprised that at least one receiver (like a Jerry Rice) has never won the award. If you looked at the history of the award, you just knew that if you were smart you would have to put your money on Aaron Rodgers this year. It was no surprise at all that he won.

No surprise and honestly, the Packers without Rodgers is what the ugly disaster that was the 2011 Colts without Manning. The Texans can get by with or without Watt. The Pack without Rodgers? Packers fans don't even want to think about that.
