Most former refs they have put their 2 cents on usually side with the refs on the field since it's such a tough call to make live.  After they reversed it he just didn't want to look like a fool.

 

Besides, interference is usually considered relative and changes from crew to crew.  Maybe he is just super strict when it comes to contact.   Personally, and as someone who used to play corner, I think there should be a lot of wiggle room.
