Black Monday Strikes Again!

13 posts in this topic

Well, Black Monday strikes again. For those who don't know, Black Monday is the first Monday after the regular season ends, when coaches on the hot seat are notoriously fired.

This year's victims? Thus far, the usual suspects:

And, somewhat of a shocker, Eric Mangini was fired after three seasons with the Jets, after failing to make the playoffs after a promising start. Remember, because both the Patriots and the Ravens won yesterday, the Jets still would've gotten shut out of the playoffs even if they had beaten the Dolphins.

And possibly more to come...?

So, there are already 5 head coaching openings? I include the Seahawks and Rams. I am guessing we will see at least 3 maybe even 4 more. Thats up to 9 possible openings. Thats almost 1/3 of all HC jobs in the NFL thats a huge turnover.

Watch list:
Wade Phillips
Jack Del Rio
Marvin Lewis
Dick Juaron
Tom Cable
Herm Edwards

I am even slightly tempted to add John Gruden but at least 3 of the above are out for sure. Book it.

He should. He has no control of that Dallas team & the numerous superstars it has. The best thing JJ could do is fire himself. He stands by Wade. I can promise that Dallas wont win games with ROMO/OWENS/PHILLIPS together.

I really don't think it's Wade. It's just the whole team in December that can't perform, Wade leads them to 2/3's of the season in a terrific fashion and then December happens. I think they should get a new Defensive coodinator and offensive coordinator (that should go to Detroit)

All I can say is good riddance to RAC. Good guy overall and I do hope he finds something but it was time for him to go as HC.

With Denver I think Shanahan is a good coach but I believe a change is needed there. He's been there a long time and they are just always very mediocre now and can never do anything worthwhile overall.

But he's the genius who invented the last second timeout on field goals.

Yeah, I say so. Honestly, if JJ keeps Wade for another year, I see that scenario playing out the way Billick's final year in Baltimore played out. Where ultimately he'll end up losing the team just like Billick. It's very possible that the Cowboys finish with 8-8 or worse and miss the playoffs two years in a row in 2009. I just can't imagine the Cowboys having a winning season in the near future as long as Phillips is there.

Nah. Like you said, he seems happy now doing all the broadcasting stuff. Plus there's way less pressure.
