Thoughts on today's slow start

35 posts in this topic

I posted this in the game day thread.  Not much traffic there once the game is over so I am starting a new thread.  Hopefully thats okay.

I think todays slow start was 100% completely intentional.

Here is why,,,

We needed the Chiefs to win. The Chiefs needed us to loose. If we blew out the Browns too quick, the Chiefs could have laid down and let the Chargers win which would have taken us out.

The Ravens waited until the Chiefs game was well in hand before we turned up the heat.

*shrugs*

Thoughts ..... ?

As I said in the game thread, this would be the most insane tactic ever. However, they won't say they did it if thats what they were doing.

Even if that was their intention, it would have been all for nothing. The Chiefs turned off their scoreboards and made it a point to remain ignorant of the other scores today.

In this digital information world, the score boards being turned off merely means the score boards were not showing the scores.   Nothing more.

Unless the team actually showed some discipline.

Your guess is as good as mine as to weather or not that would happen.

I doubt the Chiefs would simply give up because they weren't making the playoffs. There's this thing called "pride" and I doubt that team simply gives up.

Even the Bucs went all in with the number one pick on the line if they lost

Absolutely not!  That's insane thinking man!  Lol!  The Ravens offense just stunk up the joint for an entire half brah!  That's not planned or intentional.  Torrey Smith said it best at his presser....

"That's why I was kind of disappointed in the first half.  We obviously started slow as ever but, um, you watch (scoreboard w/Chiefs winning) and you're like, "Man, we have a real opportunity here and you know and we're wasting it right now!"

And, when he was asked a question about the slow start and why it took the offense so long to get going he said..."If I knew, I swear it wouldn't happen!  It's been like a theme...we got to break it!  And it is definitely frustrating cause you're like, "Here we go again!"  We need to start fast whoever we play next week!"

This brought me a good laugh. I like the theory though.

No!  He said that he thinks that the slow start was "100% completely intentional".  That's insane thinking in my book!  Especially, since this was a do or die (so to speak) game for the Ravens.

Flacco just stunk.   No other way to spin it.   He made 2 great plays out of +30 terrible ones.   Sometimes, having a strong arm can get the best of the opponent.

Next week, we have to score soon as our drive starts.   Fluky mindless plays are not going to cut it.

lol...That's funny conspiracy, but there is no way that any team would have that much of power to control 100% the outcome of the game....

Okay so I was kidding but throughout the game I kept telling my Steelers' fan BF we were just messin' with them so the Chiefs would still have hope lol

Then at the end of the game he looks at me and says, I think you might be on to something lol

Can't afford to do that. Especially against great teams like Pittsburgh who have a great offense. Got to start good and finish great! >: )

I thought the slow start was due to the offensive line's slow start, you know, because we had two rookies out there and a guard playing tackle. Steve's early drop slowed us down too.

Some bad snap exchanges early in the 1st half didn't help but as long as the D continues we can overcome slow starts

lol wishful thinking. But nah man Flacco's footwork is just off. And allowing too much pressure.

are you saying its the fault of flaccos footwork for allowing pressure?

sure sounds that way. I didn't realise his feet allowed blockers to come unblocked through the middle
