Merged: Updated JIM Harbaugh to Michigan

29 posts in this topic

Anybody else disappointed to hear about Jim Harbaugh leaving San Francisco? Aside from thinking it's the wrong decision by both sides, which is another topic entirely, I'm mostly just disappointed we won't get to see another game featuring the brothers going head to head. The Thanksgiving game a few seasons back, and of course the Super Bowl, both had a really special feel to them that was unique in a league that takes any opportunity to make a story out of the game.

Never say never. Has to be few nfl team that can entice Jim to stay in the NFL.

I mean...college bowls? Like papa john, and dorito bowls?

is that what you want jim?

He should've gone for the Raiders job. Carr is a promising young QB and expectations in Oakland are small. No one is gonna fire him for an 8-8 season there.

Thought I share this, since it's JIM who's going to Michigan and not John. I got a good laugh out of that. :D

Whoever made that mistake probably never watched football in his life.   Journalism google fail.

I believe Harbaugh first gig in NFL as a coach was with the raiders.   He was a QB coach then moved onto college coaching.

But Michigan he went and now seemingly out of our NFL atmosphere forever.   I really enjoyed watching Harbowls team duking it out.  No more...

I think Jim will be back in the league in a few years, if what's been said is true.  He'll wait for an opportunity he can't pass up, but he'll be back.  I understand why he went back to college for a bit though, that is his school, he'll be hailed as the savior, and they're paying him more than anyone else in any league would pay him.  Good luck to the rest of the B1G now, with Urban at one traditional powerhouse and Harbaugh at the other.

Jim NEVER beat John right ?

( in the NFL of course )

Correct. 2-0, Thanksgiving game and Super Bowl.  The Ravens are set to play the 49ers and the NFC West next season (perhaps he didn't want to lose again?).

3-0. We also beat them in pre-season.

The Niners stated today that it was "a mutual Decision".  That they couldn't come to an agreement on certain issues.  The other statement that was made was that they expect their coach to operate with "class and decorum"...  I think some of his behaviors didn't exude that... That's what I got from that statement.  (You know, maybe more like John). They also said some other things too..  Too many things to outline...  It was 55 minutes long...  Their expectation is not to "get to" the Super Bowl...  but to WIN the Super Bowl right away.  That's a pretty high expectation....

Yeah, it's definitely not a GM flexing his muscles over a coach with one of the highest 5 year win percentages in NFL history over some petty power struggle.  Football is really about the moral struggle and not about winning games.

I enjoyed the media, who probably loved to jump on Jim for his antics, take York and Baalke to task. Basically said, 'who the heck are you going to replace him with?' And ' couldn't put aside your ego for success?'

I just think there are organizations out there (ours being one of them) that doesn't want the nonsense.  While I agree with the "winning philosophy"...  I just believe with that being said at the very beginning of the press conference, that it had a large part in the decision...  Stupid if you want to win games... Y.E.S.  But just to come out and say that right away... within the first 5 or 10 minutes of the press conference???? That says something.

They probably wanted him to change, and he declined...  I mean... Can't you just be yourself???

We are blessed to be in free land; why should he stay if nobody appreciates who he is.  It's not like he's a convict or something.  It is just beyond stupidity....

Well, what goes around comes around....

A Letter just sent out from Jed York

Editor's note: CEO Jed York sent the following letter via email to the 49ers’ season-ticket holders late Monday:

I would like to take this opportunity to speak directly to you, our Faithful fans.

After spending two years constructing a new home for you and our team, the 2014 season began with great anticipation and high hopes. On the field, we looked to build on three consecutive years of success and take that last step toward achieving our ultimate goal. Unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize and accomplish our objective.

As the CEO of this team, it is my responsibility to ensure we are always on the path to success. Yesterday, a change was made that I believe is in the best interest of this team. Change is often accompanied by skepticism, and I respect your right to have questions. Ultimately, the decisions we make as an organization will be judged by their results, and the best way to answer concerns is by putting a championship product on the field.

The 49ers experienced a period of success under Jim Harbaugh’s direction that we will look back on proudly, and for that we owe him our gratitude. The reality we now face is that the time has come for this team to move in a different direction – one that gets us back on the path to realizing our goals.

Now, our focus is squarely concentrated on solidifying the future of this team and finding our next head coach. Having successfully navigated this process in the past, Trent Baalke has my full confidence in leading our coaching search. We have an exciting opportunity ahead of us and look forward to adding more talented individuals to this organization.

As we move into the next chapter of our team’s history, I think back to an earlier time. In 1977, my grandfather brought our family to the 49ers and began to create a championship standard. That standard is now my responsibility to uphold and our efforts will be completely dedicated to that cause.

I share and respect your passion for this team because I was born with it. You are the most Faithful fans in the National Football League and you deserve a team that makes you proud.

Sincerely,
Jed York
Chief Executive Officer
San Francisco 49ers

I was laughing my butt off with this non sense letter.  He was doing it for the fans....lol firing a winning coach for the downward spiral?

Pretty funny, 49ers better back it up

Aaron Wilson reporting that the UM AD said Harbaugh's deal is 7 years, $35M.

https://twitter.com/RavensInsider/status/549978454553542657

Different than what I'd heard speculated before, up to $9M/year

His salary is exactly the same salary with the 49ers.....

JH even said that he didn't want to be the highest paid coach; he wants to use 3 millions for his coaching staffs....

More confirmation on what we already knew - he only cares about winning games. Ego issues in San Fran and when the GM and Owner/CEO are buddy-buddy, they'll kick out the third wheel

More like butt kissers....

On the other hand, I don't like watching college football games, but I might watch the Wolverines playing....

PS: Seattle would be happy to have an automatic divisional champ every year......Arizona are good but they have no QB....

I really didn't expect Jim to go to college. I thought would want to pick up where he left off and win a Super Bowl but I was wrong. I guess you never really can predict those things.

I think he likes to go where he can have full control of the team....Michigan is his kingdom...

I really think he could've had full control over the Raiders but it doesn't matter now. I'm sure we'll see him again in a few years.

He may have saw this as the right job at the right time. He can always return to the NFL. Michigan is not open everyday.
