The Return of the Amazing Webb?

85 posts in this topic

It would be "amazing" if Webb could return to form after basically stinking it up for two seasons. As of yet there really isn't enough of a sample against quality competition to make any judgement, but at least it seems he is headed in the right direction.

I'm still hesitant to say our DBs are performing much better as of late.   The last decent QB they've faced was Rivers and we know how that turned out.  I think its very premature to say they're playing great when they've gone up against Bortles, Keenum, and Shaw.

I think Webb will be fine, but what will determine if our DBs hold-up will be the play-calling. Our coaches have to make the adjustments better than theirs and our entire defense has to execute those adjusts better than theirs.

You've got it backwards. The only reason he was open was because the QB was scrambling around.

Is he referring to the pass to Tyler Gabriel that set up the touchdown?

If that's the play, I blame the safety primarily (not sure which one it was, think it was Hill though).

The corner had coverage on Gabriel, but when Shaw rolled out, there was I believe a RB or a TE uncovered in the flat that would have been an easy completion and first down. The corner came up to take away that pass (which I agree with), but the safety was either late or didn't react fast enough to support in coverage there and get over to cover Gabriel.

I would have still expected a completion to Gabriel there, but he should been tackled far sooner than he was if the safety took a better route and reacted sooner.

I thought it was a cover 3 look right off the snap, which would have meant the corner should have dropped to cover the deep zone, but yeah, Hill took a poor angle there.

I'm just curious because if that's the play, that wasn't even Webb covering on the play

Playoffs are a different ballgame.

Let's see what he can do.

in any case, let's beat the Steelers, their guys were wide open against the Bungles last night.

Go Ravens!

Webb is walking with out assistance.  That in and of its self is a big plus around here now a days.

He's still not fully healthy. And he's not getting any younger. Still should have been in the Pro-Bowl 2011. He's a vet thats made some underrated plays last few weeks on some horrendous blown coverages by our safeties. Ultimately his contribution isn't going to be given the recognition it deserves this year unless we go all the way, which seems very very unlikely right now.

what I don´t get is that most people in here seem to be much  less critical with webb than they are when it comes to let´s say elam. Webb is not even close to the player you would expect considering his salary and his experience in the league. technically he had one good season and that was when we still had lewis and ed reed playing fairly well. I know about his injuries and I do not expect him to play at the level he was playing at before he tore his MCL - twice. It is just obvious that he isn´t able to run step be step with above average speed receivers today. his tackling is still great. maybe it would be a good thing to adjust to FS next Year. He still has ball hawking ability...

Webb is my dude but I do believe he has to step up and shut down some big names like Jimmy smith had to.those two are a good tandem though.

Remember when Webb got smoked by Antonio Brown on 3rd and 19 the last time we played Pittsburgh in the playoffs? Yeah, he needs to makeup for that still.

I think last night was another very good game from Webb. He held his own against Wheaton, Bryant and especially Brown.

I can't remember a play where he got beat from the WRs. He had a solid game. Love seeing him get back in form

I think M Bryant smoked him/out muscled him a few times, but safety help bailed him out.

It's because most of us felt - and it certainly looks that way with the way he's been playing the last month - that Webb's issues stem from his injuries.  As a smaller CB, Webb is very reliant on his footwork and movement to get into position to break up passes, catch interceptions, etc.  He's not really a guy you want pressing every receiver like Jimmy.  And we'd all seen what Webb was capable of - probably the only reason he hasn't made a pro bowl is simply he hasn't been on the field for a good enough stretch of time to be recognized for one.  Barely played most of his first 2 seasons, great 2011, injured 2012, very poor looking 2013 and 2014 up until the last month, and I think a lot of that is shaking off injury rust and maybe adjusting to not being as agile as he once was.  Plus, to top it all off, Webb is a 3rd round draft pick.  Elam, on the other hand, was a first round pick, who's had 2 healthy years in the league and outside of flashes here and there that show some potential (yes I get he was out of position for some time, that doesn't excuse poor fundamentals such as missed tackling and bad angles), he looks like a player who could be easily replaced.  Maybe that changes next year, but Elam just has never really looked good for any consistent amount of time despite a lot of opportunities to do so and no injuries or being hidden behind veterans holding him back.

Webb played very spotty last night. I was hoping he would look better in the playoffs and continue his progression but I think he might've stayed the same or even taken a step back. Then again, this was probably the best test he's had in weeks so yeah. We'll see, as the jury is still out.

Gave up 1 TD, almost another one (thanks Stewart) and a few more receptions. Not a very good game from him, honsestly.

I definitely think Webb was the worst player in our secondary yesterday, and it showed. Steelers were CONSTANTLY targetting him over even our unknown CBs

Webb doesn't seem to be able to contest a pass to save his life. He's been exposed , A LOT.

I hope he can get healthy in the offseason and come back to being decent. Doesn't look like he has the legs anymore to be a bigtime playmaker.

Doesn't really matter if the ball is only Thrown super high, which they weren't ...: it's not like the dude jumped 3 feet in the air to catch a ball...

im pretty sure 5`10 and 6`4 players have different ideas about what they would label super high.....

I think its funny when people think corners are only doing their job when the ball is thrown in their direction.

It's not trollin'... It's fact.. He wasn't catching sky balls that were higher than physically capable of webb to deflect. You're reaching, and just spewing crap again... Name a ball that he caught that was some special catch where he had to sky over Webb to bring down. NONE
