Ed Reed's Interceptions

27 posts in this topic

In case you all didn't know, Ed's 2 picks on Garrard gave him the interception lead in the league with 9, 2 more than several other guys with 7 (Polamalu, Nick Collins, a couple of other guys). Our team as a unit also finished with the most interceptions in the league as well with 26 (the Browns were 2nd with 23). Congrats to Ed and all of our defense for making plays for us all year, we wouldn't be here without them.

I know right... I hate when he does that... we have the ball already no need to do anything stupid with it! I have a fantasy football team about to win some money and I have Ed Reed lateraling the ball

and I have the Ravens defense!

His laterals worked nice with C-Mac but i just don't think Ngata, Sizzle, or Samari were ever expecting it. Although Ngatas got some experience with the lateral (we just call it a pass in rugby)

Yeah, the laterals are scary and we could have been burnt by that second one, yesterday.

But, major props to Reed!!!

And the Ravens!!!

That's a given.

Ed Reed is the MVP of the league though, no doubt in my mind.

I just love Ed Reed but c'mon. Anyone see his interview after the game where he said about the laterals, "I've gotta be smarter than that"? I swear he said the same exact thing earlier this season. I know he's just trying to make a play but do that when we really need one not when we have the lead and the momentum.

He has a nag of trying to get his picks into the end zone. I bet you weren't complaining when he intercepted it in the endzone and ran it back for a touchdown, when he could have kneeled on it.

^ yeah most DBs get the ball in the endzone they better kneel on it, but with Reed you know he's good for more than 20 yards. Still that man always has me on the edge of my seat for good and bad reasons.

Anyone feel like Billick in the Coors commercial when he got that pick six against the eagles?

GO ED GO ED GO GO ED GO ED

lol, I remember the game from which that sound byte was originally taken, when Reed had that pick in the endzone against the Jets that would've broken his 106-yard INT record that same season, but was negated by an illegal block in the back by Will Demps...

Billick was like, "Take a knee, Ed. No, Ed. No, Ed. No, Ed...GO, ED! GO, ED! GO, ED!" Funny how he changed his mind so quickly...

Reed just needs to practice his laterals. I believe he was in the process of being tackled when he tried to pass the ball to Rolle. Lateral the ball before the defender gets to you, its much easier.

But, laterals are too unpredictable in a chaotic situation like an interception return. When he tried passing the ball to Rolle, there were a couple of offensive players in the area that could've easily swooped in to snag the ball in mid-air. So, it's a risky proposition.

Again, I can't complain too much, 'cause when it's worked, it's really worked. But in the playoffs, he's really got to be careful about it since the stakes are higher. I know it's important to do whatever it takes to win when you're in the postseason, but you also have to be very calculated with your risks, since one bad play can easily send you home.

Yeah, laterals are unpredictable. Can't disagree with that but whenever Reed has the ball we can expect a lateral if he can't go all the way. Its just he tries to pass it at the last second before getting tackled and that is not smart. Our defense is prepared for it but sometimes Reed's laterals are not a good ones. That one to Rolle was thrown short.

But yeah, all of this is risky. Has been a time where we lost the ball after an INT? I can't recall. If not, then I'd avoid lateralling in the playoffs. We are seriously overdue for an error lol.

There was that one against the Pats last year that Wes Welker forced.
But it has gone right too, like when he pitched it to Deion and he took it in for a score. And that crazy play where he tried to pitch it to C-mac at around the 50, but it was kind of like half-fumble, half-pitch, and C-Mac picked it up and took it back for a score. That might be my favourite play ever.

Well i, for one, like Ed's ability and lateraling the ball to somebody else. He takes risks, and that's what makes him a great safety. I believe the last time an interception was overturned as against the pats, when Ed didn't have ball security and he fumbled it...but either way, nice to have a DB have WR skills once the ball is in his hands.

I beg to differ, when the game is over do what you want. I think he knows how to balance risks and potential well enough.

I feel like we have an offense that can score points now. It used to be neccessary for him to take those chances because if he didnt we probably wouldnt make anything out of it. But we have a competant coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball and players that can move the ball. Its not really neccessary anymore.

Well I hope he takes risks against the Steelers because we only scored 9 points against them.
Or the Giants we only got 10 points on them.
3 points againsts Indy
10 points against Titans

Which was all losses, 5th to Pittsburgh where we scored 20 points.
In those cases no, but other times we scored in the 30s and 40s.

It seems like he does it on nearly every interception. They rarely produce more than a few extra yards, or in the case of the second one last week, lost yards. Is the potential of Ngata outrunning everybody down the field worth the risk of giving the ball back up? Don't think so.
