The reason for the dearth of WRs during the Flacco era

Also the lack of polished guys. We really need to pick guys with skills and continuous upside, this is why I'm so high on DeVante Parker from Louisville.

Me too. Both Smiths are drop artists.

A guy with sure hands would be nice, ala Jaelen Strong or Kevin White, may require trading up but well worth it.

Not for Strong. Most likely for White, since we made the playoffs. Parker and White could bother either go top 10 or top 30 depending on the combine.

Have the Ravens ever had real quality receivers?  I've been following the Ravens since the beginning of the Kyle Boller era, and they've never had one of those real #1 guys.  Boldin was proably the best wide receiver the team ever had.  Torrey is one of those guys who can have great games and can bring glory to his team, but his hands can get him into trouble.  He's like the opposite of Derrick Mason, who wasn't going to run away from anybody, but who ran routes like he was on rails and caught everything thrown at him.

Boldin and Mason are the closes the Ravens have ever had to great receivers. Boldin became a monster during the playoffs when we were finally using him right and Flacco was trusting him. Without him, I doubt the Ravens win that Superbowl. Mason is the type of guy who was never going to be elite, but he was productive and reliable as hell. There's a huge dropoff after those two. Stokley might be the next best receiver. Not great but a very reliable slot receiver.

Tell ya what, Torrey Smith might have just won a new contract.

I think he's played well enough. He could've played better and this playoff run could really help determine his value. A consistent weapon getting TD is something we desperately need, so he can earn his contract with this time. He needs to play very motivated ball.

Disagree. Two plays do not make up for the season he's had. He'll get an offer but it will not be for the money he's expecting most likely. Shoot, he is already talking like it's his last season as a Raven. Says to me he's looking for money his play does not warrant.

Torrey's probably gonna be re-signed for his potential to be the X-factor in every game. When he shows up, we win. When he's good, he's great. And that alone will get him re-signed.

The frustrating thing is watching division mates develop wide receivers from later round picks

Bengals:

Mohammed Sanu - 3rd round pick

Marvin Jones - 5th round pick

Steelers:

Antonio brown - 6th round pick!

Emmanuel sanders - 3rd round pick

Forgetting

Martavis Bryant - 4th

I think Torrey has done well albeit very inconsistent like entire offense. I'd let him test free agency and come back with offers. I doubt he breaks the bank, though of course you never know.

A young team like Oakland or Tampa Bay with a young QB and a lot of cap room might be more willing to throw money at Torrey.

My dark horse pick to sign Torrey is New England. They could use some speed.

Yeah, Mason wasn't a '#1' type guy, but he was one of the best possession receivers playing at the time.  He was like our answer to Hines Ward.

I think Torrey will get a contract, but not the sort of payday that will change what other receivers in the league make the way Flacco did.  Unless he transforms into Anquan Boldin and the Ravens win a title on his back.

Disappointing season in many respects, but he ended up with 11 TDs after almost nothing early on. That's pretty solid. I think his future with us will be determined by the playoffs this season and whether or not we go on a run with him continuing to find the endzone. He just set the franchise TD reception record.

I think its clear to move on from Torrey being a starter.  He should be used like Jacoby was when he was a good WR. Come in on shotgun formations to stretch the field , give Flacco a Trigger to pull , and draw flags

I doubt Tampa takes him. They have Evans. I see their money going elsewhere. New England and Oakland are possible, but they could also sign Shorts as well or really upgrade with Maclin

He would be a perfect compliment to Evans. Especially with Evans on a rookie contract.
