Steve Smith lashes out on critical fans

210 posts in this topic

meh real fans don't criticize players and coaches like this directly and the Ravens shouldn't be paying attention to this stuff. Im assuming this is anonymous twitter posters which for some reason ppl take far too seriously. None story here

Don't hear rugby players crying...and they put their body on the line way more.

It's their choice to play...plenty of other jobs out there! If it's simply this war mentality why don't you suit up? They all volunteer to play/entertain...and they entertain with their athleticism better than most.

If I charged people to watch me do something then I'm a public figure or entertainer and it comes with them territory.

These players don't care bout you! If they ain't getting death threats they need to [hush] and play! Get paid millions and cry over name calling!?? Athletes getting coddled too much for me.

Rugby, what's that?  Seriously, who pays enough attention to Rugby to criticize their playes?  IJS!!

...who are ready to begin their new role as postseason pass-catchers. I wonder who will step up and make the big plays when we need it. My hope is that we continue to spread the ball around like we did today and keep the opponents guessing.

Camp, Marlon, Aiken.

odlly enough I have the most faith in them when the ball is thrown their direction.

you cant volunteer to play in the NFL.

if so we would all try our luck lol

also Steve Smith isent charging anyone to see him play.

i wasent aware players where in charge on setting ticket prices and concession prices and such.

you also believe he set the price on his jersey?

also with all the millions theses players make , most of them do a whole lot for their communities and charities.

they seem to care more about others then us normal people TBH.

Also where did you get that rugby players dont cry?

They cry about referees and such alot lol.

Not to mention the media and such when it comes to scandals......

Steve Smith is the man. Just listen to his soundbite on the frontpage. Stop being crybabies. He made valid points and wasn't talking about everyone. Just a few "armcahir" folks like he said. People be so sensitive these days.

ICE UP, SON

But don't you see the irony of him bring a cry baby?

We will just have to agree to disagree because you just described how the average entertainer goes about business, lol. Actors don't set the popcorn price or movie prices either and it's not voluntary beyond maybe extras. Actors work for the studios.

I was a fan of new line cinemas in the 90s, but I didn't let a couple of bad acting performances stop me from being a fan...just like a bad Steve smith performance doesn't wavier my fanship of the Ravens as long as they stay in B-more.

Steve Smith Sr is at it again :

Steve Smith Sr. Apparently Tried To Fight Jermaine Wiggins After Loss To Patriots On Saturday

http://russellstreetreport.com/2015/01/13/ravens-links/smith-sr-post-game-altercation/

He brings fire on the field but he is nearly 40 years old and still going at it with the small man syndrome, what a poor role model trying to fight another guy in front of his wife and kids after being called a "bully" 12 years ago. Which is ironic because he then started acting like a bully.

lol.....Did you read or listen the "interview"? I by no means think Smitty is a saint, but in just those few paragraphs there's two different stories. No doubt something happened, but this is the same media outlet that was trashing the Ravens the week prior to the game. Who's to say Wiggins didn't start the whole thing?

The interview was hard to decipher and seemed a little high school gossipy but seeing that it was linked on Russell street report I lend some credence to it.

The other thing is, its unfortunately believable , he is fiery but doesn't know when to turn it off sometimes.

Sports radio sucks and that story sounds like click-bait and hot air

What did you say when Boldin use to get in people's face?

Sorry my post accidentally got deleted.

Anyways boldin didn't punch teammates ( on multiple occasions) , didn't try to fight people after games that aren't even in the NFL anymore, he also didn't constantly run his mouth. They both share a level of toughness but one lacks class.

Sooooo wait.....this is the same Boston media that called us the most deplorable organization in all of sports .....this guy works for said media....how do you think they're going to make it sound?

To me, sounds like Smith Sr took issue with something Wiggins said on the air, Wiggins tried to hide behind his kids being present because Smith Sr used a bad word ...but..then he used numerous bad words himself.

Who is the bully here? The one who thinks he can say what he wants behind a microphone without any consequences? Or the man who stood up to someone demeaning his reputation on the radio?

You decide.

Lol who's the bully? Come on now a guy who said a silly name on the radio to accurately describe somebody or the guy that takes such offense he tries to fight him?

Does smith try to fight every person that has called him a bad name, I guess maybe he should. Not to mention it reflects poorly on the organization.

Would your opinion change if he was a steeler or a bronco and not a raven?

C'mon man.  We're not wearing purple shaded glasses here (well at least not all of us).  This goes beyond SSS being a Raven (hell he hasn't even been a Raven for a year yet).

So what is your opinion of it? I despise the patriots as much as the next person but he has a history of these types of things.

Is this not the sense of irony? Being called a bully and reacting to it by being a bully, he wore his welcome out in Carolina and will do the same in Baltimore

It's a shame that you have this is the attitude towards SSS. The man has a temper.  It's not like he's punching out Marlon Brown during practice.  Do I get somewhat irritated when he almost cost us a 15 yarder?  Of course, but any player can get a little chippy on the field.  Look at the nature of the sport.  His career is catching a ball while baring the hits of grown men trying to crush his soul.  Of course he's gonna be a little edgy in that kind of environment.

No because he didn't try to fight him. did you read the article? That never happened. They were just yappin' at each other. You act like he went up to him and punched him in the face. C'mon man.

True fact - you talk about me I'm going to ask you about it to your face. Maybe just me. You don't get a pass to talk about people and think you don't have to answer for bad mouthing people. You talk like Smith Sr threw a punch at him or something.  According to the report I'm reading, that isn't how it happened. The bully is the one thinking he can do wrong to someone and not have to answer for that.

I find it interesting that Smith Sr was told by Ozzie, supposedly, that he needs to take three weeks. I find it especially strange considering that it's not like Sr is undecided on what he wants to do. He seems very much desiring to return here. I'm not suggesting we will cut Smith Sr, but it is very odd that Ozzie told him to take three weeks and then decide. I'm a little curious. Harbaugh also said he would play a role but seemed to hint he may not play as large a role.

Is anyone actually surprised he almost got in a fight with a radio guy? That's pathetic and childish. C'mon man.

I thought that was interesting too. I don't know what their reasoning is, if they're trying to coax him out, but it's interesting to think about. I think we're gonna give the young guys more action.

Yeah, it's just weird that we would suggest a player, who just said he wants to return not retire, should take time to think about it. I mean, what the Hell? It does make me wonder. I know damn well we won't go into next season with Smith Sr and a bunch of guys at WR. I actually think there's a really strong chance we probably re-sign Torrey Smith. I think he returns with little doubt, TBH. I do think we'll look closely at WRs in the draft, however.

I do wonder if Steve Smith Sr rubbed off on Torrey in a negative way as well. It's strange to me how Torrey was so strange early in the year. I'm probably manifesting stories here, but I'm just trying to make sense of this. I also found it interesting how Harbaugh brought up Butler. I was happy to hear him mention him. I liked Butler's promise from what I read, and it's good to hear we still have plans for him.

its pretty normal to ask players at his age to take some time off and think about if they are ready for yet another full season or not.

he is very close to retire and he needs to figure out of his body and mind can handle another brutal season.

you don't want a favre situation where a players doesent know what he is going to do and thus keeps the organization in a choke hold.

FA and draft are months away and they FO needs to prepare for it and thus hope after 3 weeks they know they if SSS will be back or not.

I think you are being naive, he has more than a temper he has serious anger issues.

Not that it really needs to be said, but...

A Ravens spokesman said Tuesday that reported details of the altercation were inaccurate.

"We have talked to one of our security members, who witnessed this conversation and it is not how it has been described," Chad Steele said.

Maybe the Bostonian shock jocks got a little carried or 'embelished' to get some publicity?

People who burn jerseys just do it for attention, in my opinion. Most of them weren't loyal fans to begin with. ALL of them are making dumb decisions by burning at least a $100 item - unless they bought it from China where its real worth is probably similar to firewood.

Although I still wouldn't do it...

Wish I had the $ to burn Jerseys after a poor showing or loss

Walmart don't sell $100 jerseys. I never bought authentic jerseys...I don't see the point. It's a time capsule for me. But to each their own.
