Steve Smith lashes out on critical fans

210 posts in this topic

I don't care about what he said, personally. I'm not hurt at all. Just think he sounds like a childish diva with some insecurity problems.

My point is...  why would anyone expect him to change?

After reading more of the post-game quote (not just this little snippet), I think he was addressing the media, not the fans.

And, yes Mod 3...  He was...  people are just so sensitive these days.

SSS? Is that you?

Nope, its still me. Good old trusty Mr. Common Sense.

Have you met Mr. Hypocrite? There appears to be many members of his family on the boards here today...

Let's be gown adults here. We criticize when our team fails and they can crticize us as they see fit. Im a grown man. I can take it and quite honestly, have much more important things in life to worry about; my kids, my wife, my mother and father and my businesses.

Lol. This thread is funny. You call these people names and say this person sucks. But he says it to you and yall start crying and you dont even know if it was REALLY directed to you. You nerds take it so far. Call him a diva or a schoolgirl all you want but what are you then?

Cry me a river.

Whether or not the fans in question deserve it, people need to remember SSS is an emotional guy, and this is coming not even 24 hours after a brutal loss with the playoffs on the line.  Of course he's going to lash out the day after something like that.  He cares about winning, he cares about doing well, and when we lose as badly as we did, he's going to vent his frustration.  And it's somewhat understandable he'd lash out at people who are criticizing him for doing his job - his attitude is probably like "we're doing the best we can, what more do you expect from us" - and 24 hours after the loss is not the time you'd expect him be thinking with a clear head.  I'd expect most reasonable people to at least take this for what it is, a frustrated guy just venting his emotion.

I think the other smith deserves more criticism.  That was the 2nd time he slipped and basically caused an int.  The first was against the Bungles.

He's been getting criticism all year, to be fair.

Also, i think GARY KUBS. deserves most of the blame. He knows the TEXANS def. more than anyone and they obviously knew our game plan.  And execution can have some of the blame but this was more of a game plan that never got going and nothing was changed.

Now, that's what I'm talking about!  I couldn't agree with this more!  Just like nothing in here we say governs what these players do, neither do what they say govern what we do!  If I want to criticize a player...I will!  And, like Steve Smith, Sr.; if they want to criticize we fans...so be it!  In a odd way; the Ravens players and we Ravens fans are family!  Name one family on the planet that always agrees with one another or that never argues, never have differing views or opinions or that doesn't get mad about one another's behavior etc.?

Did he say this after the game? If so that would be very petty of him. The Ravens offense stinks up the field and one of the things Steve Smith thinks of is to critic the fans? I love Steve Smith but low class.

....and after that, catch the freakin' ball.

....and after that, run with it for the first down and more...preferably a TD.

If you read the entire post, you note that he wasn't talking about the fans as much as he was talking about the media and how they would write it....  He's right.

In Smith Sr's defense. What was he brought to Baltimore for? Certainty not to be the work horse. He completely surpassed my expectations. I only imagined 800 yards. 1000 at the age of 35 is an amazing achievement. To say this is a disappointing year for Steve is a very invalid statement. It's Torrey Smith who had a down year.

Yeah, I'm in agreement with what PurpleCity said. You can't complain too much when you get a 1,000 yard season out of a 35 year old receiver. We probably wouldn't be having these issues if SSS was a slot receiver instead of the top outside receiver. There's no reason why you should expect a 35 year old to be a workhorse on the offense.

Also what The Mom Gene said. It was more about the media than the fans.

Its still not a good look. After a loss I would expect players to own up to their performance. Instead of talking about how the media will handle the situation.

Are you implying I can't take it? You implying I'm soft? That what you're sayin? Because I already said I'm not hurt. My only thing here is that he looks like a diva and a school girl for doing this. He could call me whatever name he damn wanted and it wouldn't matter worth a damn. His words won't hurt me. I'm just pointing out that he must be pretty thin-skinned and one hell of a diva to call out critical fans. If he's worried about critics than he's not the tough SOB I thought he was.

The only thing I take offense to is the fact that....after the Saints he talked all that trash on the Saints players saying that he looked them in the face when he took their lunch money.......but that was the last big game he had. I am not saying whether he is right or wrong but what I am saying is if you can dish it out, you need to be able to take it.

9 drops on 122 targets good for 7.4%

hmmm to me it doesent look as bad as it sounds.

intresting though they say once a ball touches the hands it counts as a drop.

they havent specified by catcheble balls or in accurate passes.

to each their own but ive seen guys with way worse % and i know not all drops where easy catches.

It's actually much worse. The % means squat. He played lights out for quite a while with 0 drops. Second half of the season? he's had board hands. Not to mention looking disinterested at times.

Huh? He had 2 drops in the first game, IIRC...

Fans have every right to criticise this performance. This offence realistically has failed to deliver against better defences - I'm not sure what our stats are without some of the blow outs versus the NFC South, but I believe they may be deceiving us as to how good (or average) this unit really is.

I wonder how Harbaugh is handling SSS. We've obviously seen all of the rumors about him and strong personalities in the past. More curiosity than anything else.

Probably the same way he handle Derrick Mason. I remember Mason having heated arguements with Harbaugh and even Mason said things he shouldn't have said at times but Harbaugh strikes me as a coach that's not afraid of  strong personalities.

Honestly speaking, it won't be any issue much longer any way. How many more years does Smith realistically have left in him?

He just needs to focus on catching the ball, too many key drops and a lack of production.
