Hard to Argue w/Ravens' 1st 2 Picks in this year's draft but.......

Not gonna lie, that's a pretty arrogant statement.  No, I don't believe every GM takes the most talented player available - some of them will take a less talented player at a position of need.  Good GMs, in fact, do this more than you think - the Panthers were laughed at for taking Benjamin over receivers that were considered better players and more sure things, and nobody's laughing now.  And apparently the Ravens thought Matt Elam was a top 20 talent they took at 32, if you go by the post-draft interviews - very clearly 15 teams either didn't want him or knew something the Ravens FO didn't.  Just because the Ravens have one way of successfully building a franchise doesn't mean that there aren't others.

but the best and most consistent contenders draft BPA, patriots, steelers, ravens, niners(if they had a qb who knew how to throw a touch pass they would still be contending) seahawks, and then look at teams that are just a qb away from being legit contenders, bills, chiefs, texans, they all draft BPA(except for maybe manuel as the first qb off the board) and they are stacked at most positions and as soon as a qb comes their way, theyll be in contention. just because kelvin benjamin had a good rookie year doesnt make the panthers gm some sudden genius, theyve been a decent drafting team over the years but be real, benjamin coulda been had 10 whole picks later and wouldve produced the same

you think if the bears could re-do this draft and go strictly BPA, they still take fuller over mosley? you think the ravens would draft any differently in the first round even after seeing what happened to our secondary? i doubt it.

I can almost guarantee that the Bears would still take Fuller over Mosley. Mosley is an amazing inside linebacker and the type of guy any team would want. But generally speaking, an elite cornerback will help a defense more than an elite inside linebacker.

agree to disagree i guess, im not underestimating the value of an elite shutdown corner, but i think the importance of having that high football IQ man in the middle who always knows where the play is going and is athletic enough to get there in time, shouldnt be underestimated either. i personally think that a great defense starts with the front seven, specifically the interior d-line, followed by pass rush, followed by that leader and playmaker at ILB, we are in the playoffs with a secondary that doesnt even belong in the nfl, why? because of our front seven. i guess its just old school but i think youre better off with an average secondary and elite front seven than the other way around, the seahawks are a different story though, that secondary was in a class of its own..

honestly I don't know what getting a big time WR would do for us. I think wed be better suited to get impact players at other positions. i think joe would benefit more from an elite tight end and a big play running back than a stud wide receiver. of course i think we would benefit from a stud wide receiver i just think picking up a CB or some dline help in the first rd would be more of an impact, possibly even a young pass rusher as McPhee could be headed out the door and suggs and dumervil are getting older(not showing it yet). finding a good tight end in the 2nd or 3rd and you can find a good running back practically any round. i think our oline is good on depth urchel has played very well and hurst is definitely shaky but i see improvements. wagner didn't look the greatest his rookie year and i think he had an awesome season this year. i would probably look to free agency for a wide receiver. just me though

the one thing a stud WR would do to improve our offense, is catch perfectly thrown balls, which seems to be something our wr's have never been able to do. i agree about drafting the most talented and pro-ready players in the first regardless of position, but i also think we have signed enough FA WR's over the years and it is time we make the leap and get a superstar in the first, idk if this is the year though, since we made the playoffs our chances of getting a first round worthy WR are slim to none.
