Ed Reed - Retirement Talk w/Ozzie

7 posts in this topic

I caught a brief segment of Inside the NFL this morning and Ed Reed mentioned speaking with Ozzie about retirement.  Here is how it when down on the show...

Greg Gumble: "Dear Ed, we hear that you've been getting golf tips from Hank Hainey and sinking birdie putts at Pebble Beach; that and all of the early bird dining sounds like retirement to us.  When are you going to make it official?  We want to know when to start the 5 year clock on your enshrinement.  Thanks in advance - The Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

Ed Reed: "Um! You know what?  I've called Ozzie, and talked to Ozzie about making it official, um, it's a tough thing, especially when you're watching this NFL today, knowing that I can still play, knowing that I at least have 2 or 3 more years in me.  But, just watching this NFL and how many passes are being thrown to teams man; it's tough to retire!  But, you know, it's something that I'm sure I'll be talking to the organization (Baltimore Ravens) about."

Boomer Esiason: "Talking to the organization about what?"

Ed Reed: "I've talked to them about retiring.  I've talked to the organization (Baltimore Ravens)"

Boomer Esiason: "Talked to them about signing like a contract?  When is that going to happen?"

Ed Reed: "Probably in the off-season!  We was trying to make it happen, honestly, this season but it's just tough with my schedule being here-working!"

Boomer Esiason: "You're one of the greatest Safeties who has ever played..."

Ed Reed: "Let it go?"

Boomer Esiason: "Let it go!"

(They sing..."I think I better let it goooo...)

Michael Irvin: "It's not that easy!"

Ed Reed: "Look!  They are not allowing you to hit in the league no more so, I don't have to hit anybody!  I got you Boom!"

Michael Irvin:  "What is Ozzie saying to you?"

Ed Reed: "He's not calling me to come and help that secondary!"

^ I loved hearing that exchange.  Ed spoke like a true ballhawk!  And I for one would love to see him on our backend.  Bring Ed home Ozzie!

Ray & Ed were special. They were both passionate, but more importantly, they both really treated each other like brothers and seemed to respect each other a ton. I think that went a long way, to be honest.
