Week 16 Discussion (Other NFL Teams)

774 posts in this topic

It's crunch time folks, the playoffs are a mere three weeks away. Week 16 can see a bunch of teams clinch playoff spots, some can clinch their division while others like the Pats, Broncos and Colts are fighting for a bye week.

Eagles @ Redskins: The Eagles suffered a huge loss in the NFC East Race to the Cowboys but can be right back in it with a win against Washington

Colts @ Cowboys: If the Eagles beat Washington, a win by the Colts would bring things closer for week 17. Cowboys look to clinch the East with a win and Eagles loss.

Chargers @ 49ers: Chargers are looking to stay in the wild card hunt while the eliminated 49ers look to spoil the fun.

Lions @ Bears: An upset by Tampa over the Packers with a win over the Bears gives the Lions the NFC North Title. A loss by Green Bay and Dallas with a Detroit win gives the Lions a first round bye. Essentially a win clinches a playoff spot.

Falcons @ Saints: Here we go folks, someone can FINALLY lay claim to winning the South. If the Saints are able to beat the Falcons, a Panthers loss would officially give the Saints the division title.

Bills @ Raiders: The Bills have been a surprise team this year and are looking to stay in the wild card hunt heading into week 17.

Seahawks @ Cardinals: Good news for the Cardinals, if they are to win against Seattle, then they not only clinch the NFC West Title but they also clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

AFC North Related:

Browns @ Panthers: For the Panthers, they need this win in order to have a chance to win the South in week 17. If Manziel and the Browns spoil the fun, then it's over and quite possibly bye bye Ron Rivera.

Chiefs @ Steelers: The Ravens can clinch a playoff spot with a win and a Steelers & Bengals loss. The Chiefs need this win to stay in the wild card hunt.

Broncos @ Bengals: If the Steelers lose to KC, and the Ravens beat the Texans, this game is going to be crucial. If the Broncos win after a Steelers loss and Ravens victory, the Ravens are in the playoffs. Now for the bad news, the Bengals can clinch the North with a Ravens & Steelers loss. They also just need a win to clinch a playoff spot.

AFC North wins combined with AFC West losses can end up with all six spots in the conference clinched after this week.

In the NFC, a loss by Philly Saturday leaves the door open for all the spots in that conference to be claimed on Sunday.

That will make Week 17 about seeding and nothing else.

To repeat and now confirmed: Bears starting QB Jimmy Clausen over Jay Cutler on Sunday vs. Detroit, per sources.

More bad news for the Bears from Albert Breer's Twitter.......

Cutler's deal currently contains $38M guaranteed. $22.5M of that has been paid, meaning Chicago would have to write a $15.5M check to cut him.

Ouch, $15.5M just so he isn't apart of the team anymore.

Don't want to bring this up but Flacco's contract keeps looking better by the day. Once Kaepernick and Dalton fail to live up to their $100M+ deal, it will look sweeter.

Cutler...

The most hilarious thing is Josh McCown was a better fit in Marc Trestman's system than Cutler. McCown actually outperformed him. He would have been cheaper to keep and they still could be in position to draft a QB next year.

I wonder if Bortles can protect the ball enough the last two weeks so Cutler still wins most-intercepted award he deserves. He'll probably still win most turnovers combined.

Now the question becomes........ who gets the number two pick, Tampa is in line for number one and will take either Mariota or Winston. So whomever gets the two pick, could be in line for a boatload of picks(Ala RG3) if the Bears are willing to move up and take the other QB.

Don't forget that in addition to the Thursday night snooze-fest, we also have two games on Saturday.

I don't know why CBS is insisting on calling those games part of a Thursday Night Special. Aside from not being Thursday, the TNF brand isn't exactly soaring right now.

Thursday we have a battle for a top five 5 pick, Sat we get Eagles vs RG3 and we get to watch Jim Harbaugh in prime time one last time as the Chargers come to town. Seems like the only game that concerns us is the 49ers vs Chargers.

I know College Football is the reason for not having Saturday Night games but I would love to see Thursday Night Games become Saturday Night games. That way, when it ends we go right into Sunday. With Thursday, game is over and then there is this couple day wait in between. Plus it would give teams a full week basically to recover from the previous week.

It's crunch time folks, the playoffs are a mere three weeks away. Week 16 can see a bunch of teams clinch playoff spots, some can clinch their division while others like the Pats, Broncos and Colts are fighting for a bye week.

Eagles @ Redskins: The Eagles suffered a huge loss in the NFC East Race to the Cowboys but can be right back in it with a win against Washington   The Eagles have to keep pace w/ the Cowboys.  Plus RG3 is starting.

Colts @ Cowboys: If the Eagles beat Washington, a win by the Colts would bring things closer for week 17. Cowboys look to clinch the East with a win and Eagles loss. I think they sit DeMarco Murray b/c of his broken hand.  Ironically, the 12th man is not a factor at Dallas.  Maybe it will be now b/c the local fairweather fans will come support them.

Chargers @ 49ers: Chargers are looking to stay in the wild card hunt while the eliminated 49ers look to spoil the fun.

The Niners are a mess.  Plus the news that Michigan offered Harbaugh $8M a year is a distraction.

Lions @ Bears: An upset by Tampa over the Packers with a win over the Bears gives the Lions the NFC North Title. A loss by Green Bay and Dallas with a Detroit win gives the Lions a first round bye. Essentially a win clinches a playoff spot.  Cutler benched for Jimmy Claussen, enough said.

Falcons @ Saints: Here we go folks, someone can FINALLY lay claim to winning the South. If the Saints are able to beat the Falcons, a Panthers loss would officially give the Saints the division title.  Someone has to come out smelling like roses from this garbage heap.

Bills @ Raiders: The Bills have been a surprise team this year and are looking to stay in the wild card hunt heading into week 17.

Bills defense is sick.  They've shut down P. Manning and Aaron Rodgers in back to back games

Seahawks @ Cardinals: Good news for the Cardinals, if they are to win against Seattle, then they not only clinch the NFC West Title but they also clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  Cardinals are starting the 3rd string QB if I'm not mistaken.

AFC North Related:

Browns @ Panthers: For the Panthers, they need this win in order to have a chance to win the South in week 17. If Manziel and the Browns spoil the fun, then it's over and quite possibly bye bye Ron Rivera.  Johnny Bench

Chiefs @ Steelers: The Ravens can clinch a playoff spot with a win and a Steelers & Bengals loss. The Chiefs need this win to stay in the wild card hunt.  I hope I'm wrong about this for obvious reasons.

Manning isn't himself lately.  Hopefully he'll pull his head out his butt.

It's ridiculous the type of contracts given out in american sports. Long contracts worth 10s of millions of dollars and if they flop you have to pay out a huge amount just to make them walk.

At least in football less than half of the money is guaranteed. The Yankees still owe A-Rod $60M. Still. Guaranteed. Rashard Lewis was one of the highest paid basketball players as recently as a few years ago due to an old, big contract that got passed around from team to team to team.

Yeah I think the whole thing is ridiculous, you shouldn't be obligated to pay huge chunks of money to people not doing their job well or well enough.

I agree. The only objection I can come up with is that the obscenely rich person paying them gets millions either way. Why shouldn't the people who are bringing in those millions get some of it? Even if they play poorly, it has little to no effect on the income of the owners. The weasels are the agents, but they also serve an important purpose, I suppose.

What is up with back injuries hitting QBs all of a sudden. First it was Romo, then Cam hurt his in the car accident and apparently according to Schefter, Philip Rivers who missed practice yesterday is dealing with a back injury that is "bigger than people realize".
