CB Asa Jackson done for the year

44 posts in this topic

Does anyone know who is out there on the market?

Besides franks and derek cox.

Frank Walker?  Chris McAlister?  Duane Starks?

In all seriousness, I'm on board with just combing through some practice squads and finding some guys to stash for next year.  There are no veterans available that are worth a spot.  We might as well just grab some young guys with potential and make them weekly inactives.

Not a bad idea.

But with us in the middle of the playoff hunt, i'm not sure that would be feasible.

Might as well just bring back Dominque Franks since he already would know our defensive system .

The only reason I would even consider it a possibility is because we've been through this so many times and we've basically ruled out every available FA at this point.  We kind of lucked out that Cason became available when we had a need.

too bad.....that was a short 2014 season for Asa.

Yea but i'm not really sure anyone we get off a practice squad will be good enough to stash for a year, with the free agents on the cb market and the draft prospects coming out.

cardinals ps:

jimmy legree 6'0 187lbs

ross weaver 6'1 210 lbs

Either of these two seem like they would fit. Cardinals are known for their defense, so they may be on the PS because there is too much talent ahead of them, like Bynes and Simon with us.

I'm just to the point where I'd rather us kick the tires on some young guy that may have a shot to be a future piece than some old, washed up veteran that we've passed on many times to this point.

Are you saying they seem like they would fit based solely on their size?

Totally fair.

Those two Cardinals players look interesting.

True, but which one do we actually need for 2014?

There are a ton of things that have to go right for a PS guy we pick up right now to be around again this time next season.

I was thinking the same thing about Seattle's practice squad.

I'm 6'2 and I'm available. I'd suck at press but if nothing else I have long arms.

In seriousness, raiding the practice squads of others teams and hoping for the best might be our best options. And hope Rashaan Melvin is the real deal *touches wood* and stays healthy *touches wood and steals a horseshoe from Indianapolis*.

I think he's just making a suggestion for guys to look at. And considering the best (read: only) options brought up in this thread so far are between pinching those guys and giving me a contract, I'm inclined to go with the Cardinals players.

We've been through it many times and we've always picked up the young guy that might possible have a future (Jacobs and Melvin) over those old washed up vets. The exceptions are Gorrer and Cason who just happened to be available after we lost a CB for the season.  Unless a guy becomes available in the next couple of days, I imagine we go the young guy route again.

Indy had a CB on their PS, but they promoted him TODAY. You think they heard we are looking to poach one?

@RavensInsider: Colts signed cornerback Sheldon Price to active roster from practice squad and waived tackle Andrew McDonald from active roster.

Certainly possible.  If we tried to sign him, Indy would have had the right to elevate him to their 53 man roster first.

Yes, but those situations aren't even remotely the same. The next corner we sign may very well not even be on our PS... he might be on our active roster.

Its one thing to sign young corners to the PS in hopes of developing them. Its an entirely different scenario to sign a corner based almost solely on the fact that you don't have enough healthy one's on your roster to struggle to field the position.

You're missing the entire point here.  Who else are we going to sign?  We've had countless opportunities to sign the guys currently on the market.  We haven't.  They are completely the same because we're in the same exact situation once again.  When we plucked Melvin off of the Bucs' PS, we were in exactly the same situation.  We were struggling for bodies, and ultimately decided that he was a better option than the older vets.  I'm fully aware that these guys will be on the active roster.  That's the entire point of plucking a guy off of someone else's PS.

If I'm a cb on another team, I'm staying the hell away. I've seen what happened to those before me and staying my butt on the team I'm on. WE'RE CURSED!!! Chykie Brown out voodoo on us when he got benched.
