Timmy Jernigan

This guy has stepped up the last 2 weeks. When Oz and company said they got a first round talent in the second they weren't lying!

Timmy Jernigan's performance, these past 2 weeks, really begs the question: Does this force the Ravens to cut Haloti Ngata, this upcoming off-season?

I mean, if the team just drafted a 2nd-round defensive tackle who has the potential to be an efficient starter for years to come, why would they "waste" Jernigan's talents by making him only the #2 DT behind Ngata?

Nonetheless, the duo of Jernigan and Brandon Williams is going to be down-right intimidating in no time!

Force ? No. but he and brandon williams provide tremendous leverage as does the PED suspension that the Ravens can put on Ngata. regardless Ngata won't be playing next year with his current cap number, either he signs an extension or is released.

My favorite play was Steelers game two when Jernigan pushed his lineman back into Blount and tackled him for like a 7 yd loss. Timmy was a guy I thought very highly of going into the draft. Glad to see him break out after injury. I think Ngata could be looked at for being cut, and he probably will.

I think cutting Ngata is a bit premature. D-linemen are always getting banged up throughout the season, so you can't have too many. They can rotate a lot, as well. That said, he certainly isn't playing under his current cap number, so extension or cut are the options. Jernigan is surely earning himself crazy PT, regardless of whether or not Ngata remains.

Jernigan's play obviously doesn't force us to cut Ngata, but it makes the decision a lot easier if we choose to go that route.  I still believe that an extension is the primary goal, but if a deal doesn't work out, Jernigan's play makes you feel more comfortable about letting him go.

Disagree as good as Jernigan has been i mean hes been unbelievable I still think Ngata provides more in the run game. We've been leaky at times without Ngata the past 2 weeks. I'd wait at least another year to see how much Jernigan develops its too soon to write the ship on Ngata. I do think however Ngata is going to be forced to take a pay cut.

He is out for blood whenever he is in the game. His hands and hustle are amazing. Can Ngata still play 5 tech? A 3tech that gets consistent pressure is what makes our defensive scheme thrive.

No, but it might make him expendable. It could also make Canty expendable and we keep Ngata. I feel confident that one of Canty and Ngata will be gone next year. Neither player would surprise me.

I think we would rather keep Ngata than let him go, but it's certainly a valid question even if premature.

Ngata will be signed again for 2015 and 2016 and retire a Raven.... I don't know about Canty though... With Brent Urban, KLM, Jernigan, etc... I think we can afford to let Canty go.

Ngata cap hit is too big. he isn't producing anywhere near it. Not to mention he should have more than 2 years left.

Jernigan is disruptive and shoots gaps FAST. In todays NFL Its a waste to have two run big run stoppers on the feild at the same time. Having Williams and Ngata on the feild at the same time in most circumstances is  a waste.  Ngata now is not the Ngata of 5 years ago. He is still good, but not nearly as disruptive.. more of a wave guy. If you look around best défenses have one behemoth and rest athletic FAST types. Haloti is solid but not worth the coin. Jernigan was the beast at FSU and was elated we took him. He is a star if not already. The front of Jernigan, Mcphee and Williams is beastly athletic. Guy and Tyson are solid depth. Tyson isnt bad.

Since Jernigan started in 8 quarters..14 sacks, 1 TD allowed and creates havoc and collapses the pocket making it easier for Sizzle, Mcphee and Doom.

he has 1 year left.

so either plays out his contract, get extended or gets cut.

He was also having 1 of his best years though.

He seems healthy and with the depth he was also fresh out there by the looks of things.

letting him walk might not be ideal since he is still playing at a high level and well we all have seen how important depth is.

We also have played the Dolphins and jags, two teams with bad O-lines. Let's temper ourselves a little bit. Cleveland has a good o-line, they should be a good test.

I'm doubting that's even an option.  I don't see any way we could pay him his current salary unless we entered the season with some serious weaknesses at other positions.  It's an extension or cut.

Next year is his last year and without a doubt it will either be extended or he'll be released which would save us almost 10 mil of cap room but give us a crapload of dead money too.

As for Jernigan everybody was like omg whats Ozzie doing he's a 4-3 DT 3 tech. lol .He's a football player.

What don't you understand about Jacksonville having the worst pass blocking line in the NFL? Uh duh

17 million dollar is too much for Ngata at this point. I'd have to look up the numbers, hut we would save a boatload.

He always had quickness and good technique. Contrary to popular opinion, he was a god fit for a 3-4. I think we extend or trade ngata, as i'm sure Ozzie doesn't want 6 mil in dead money.

Can we PLEASE start calling him Timmy "The Snowman" Jernigan? Then every time he gets a sack the crowd can imitate making a snow angel by waving their arms above their heads and screaming "SNOOOOOOOW!!!!!!" lol

I just think it has a ring to it :D

you are probaly right.

i think cutting rice made it pretty much impossible to keep him at that number.

but im placing my bet on him getting an extension like suggs got.
