I have to absolutely agree with this...  NO ONE could have predicted all of this...  And now, I think, The guys are pushing it, because they have to.

We're cursed, right? The number of injuries in our defensive backfield is inordinate. I get it. However, giving Ozzie or anyone else in the organization a pass on the predicament we find ourselves in is just this side of ridiculous. The performance of our defensive backs to this point, with or without the injuries, has been woefully inadequate. They have been the weak link in the chain all year and you know what they say about the strength of a chain. We have lost Ed Reed, Pollard, Graham, Williams and Ihedigbo in the span of two years and we have replaced them with whom? Matt Elam? Terrence Brooks? Jimmy Smith is the only solid and/or healthy DB we had going into this season. Our depth chart was off the charts in a negative sort of way.

Its impossible for a coach to prevent the injuries from occurring or predicting them but one of the cardinal rules a coach always imparts to his or her players is "Stay alert or you might get hurt." I'm not saying all these guys weren't alert but there seems to be a pattern here. I am saying when you are  consistently getting beaten on 3rd and long yardage it is a problem with alertness. When we had a chance to pick up Champ Bailey, we should have offered him a job. All things being equal, if I have

to choose between athletically gifted versus smart I'll pick smart every time. Champ Bailey had lost a step or two but when he was getting beaten in coverage it wasn't because he didn't know what to do in a given situation.

On a positive note, I was encouraged by what I saw out there today. Despite the injuries to some of our cornerbacks, their replacements stepped up and gave it their all. Some of the sacks were even coverage sacks. The one person who deserves a lot of credit for sewing this patchwork quilt of players together into a cohesive unit is none other than Dean Pees. What a masterful job he's done with the motley crew he has to work with. Kudos, Coach Pees! And, oh yes, who was the mental genius on our coaching staff who failed to call a TO before we got a delay of game call against us. That coaching blunder was inexcusable but the expression on Harbs' face was priceless.

Every team has absurd injuries. I wonder if the Cardinals fan base is whining this much. NO one feels sorry for the Ravens. people still don't want us to win and still think of us in a negative light.

The sad part is... This is so late in the season, Brooks won't be ready for the start of next year most likely. : / I thought he showed some promise at times this year!

Outside of the Cardinals, does any other fan base feel sorry for injuries that another team sustains? Only reason we feel bad for the Cards is because  1) They're injured at the most important position 2) They're a team that doesn't have that much animosity towards them.

Its sort of ironic really, because the success of this team is sort of in a macro sense showing perhaps that having great secondary players isn't all that important after all in this league.

If you can roll out 5th and 6th string corners on a weekly basis, and still win double digit games, doesn't that say something about the value of the position?

Yeah, but this team will struggle against a top notch QB with a good O-line.

Not really.  We're 1-5 against teams with records better than .500 and 8-0 against teams under .500.  That shows that the better teams are exposing the weakness and doesn't bode well for a long trip in the playoffs.  I'm sure the results wouldn't be as kind with a tougher schedule.

Nah.  Because when you look at Seattle and the Bills, having a great secondary can carry your team no matter who the QB is.  I'd rather have a great secondary with a serviceable offense than a mediocre secondary with a high powered offense.

8 sacks.

Offense played like complete trash today.

I had a feeling that they would!

We got some sacks, but that game was pathetic.  We didn't show up.

Typical response from the Ravens.

Call the goat

He's the most durable hurt player ever

Absolutely!!

Is the secondary cursed without Reed. JK. kinda.  Seriously though I just can't believe the injuries in our secondary that is just messed up

They haven't been the same without Ed Reed that's for sure.  Never know what you had until it's gone!  Lol!

What are you considering Miami and Clev to be.

I just saw the stat on Twitter a bit ago, but I went down the schedule, and it looks like they'd be considered the under .500 (the tweet may have said .500 or under, in retrospect).  Regardless, reaching double digit wins does not lessen the value of DBs.  The better teams are still exploiting that weakness heavily.

Really sucks for all these kids that have serious injuries playing on our secondary. Not to mention it sucks for the Ravens too! Get well Terrence, Danny, Asa, Jimmy, Aaron, Trawick and the rest that are lost for the year...

That's simply not true, at least when it comes to the number of injuries happening in the same position (the secondary in the case of the Ravens). Show me a team with eight injured linebackers or eight injured receivers.

Seriously though. How much $$$ and draft consideration will be tied up in remaking this secondary this coming offseason?

Sign a couple vets and watch us not even draft a CB till round 5

Seems to be how it goes now

Sad but true. This is the most MAJOR need I can ever remember us having. Besides QB of course lol.

You are harping on a number.. It's the NFL my goodness sir! It's a violent game and injuries happen. It's like a microcosm of life. ish happens you either complain like you guys are doing in this entire thread or you say next man up. It's not like we could have foreshadowed this so we adjust and move forward.

Do you not agree?

Well when the season started how many safeties vs corners did we have ??? We had too many safeties and not enough corners on the roster . That's Ozzie s fault

There's no doubt Ozzie dropped the ball in that regard. I suppose he didn't want to reach on a CB in the draft with higher rated players on the board. I don't think we had much of a chance in free agency outside of Graham. I think he screwed up there on Graham.

On the 1st play too. smh. Damn shame

I am counting both injuries, so yes, I am counting the first one and what appears to be another.

Only injuries but we did cut Chykie Brown and Franks

They played like they were injured so does that count?

And don't worry, cause we all try to forget #7 as well.

Check out the Packers when they won the Super Bowl. They had over 15 on IR, I believe
