He was a pleasant surprise. Looked comfortable and confident. 1st three plays: great tackle, excellent pursuit and tackle for loss, and then perfect coverage with an interception that was ruled an incompletion.

He made more plays in only 10 snaps than any other corner. Played excellent coverage and only allowed one reception. And he's got perfect size and athleticism.

When he was in the game he was the best cb on the field. He deserves to start until he proves otherwise. May have unearthed a gem

its been so long since ANYBODY in our secondary played decent that i think that we are all a little drunk on happiness

I believe Lardarius Webb is getting better each game.

He reminds me of Cary Williams ... He wasn't the best we ever had, but he's was solid enough and far better than anything we've got limping around at the moment

He definitely earned another on look.

I think the reactions, for the most part, are an overreaction. Does anyone remember Gorrer and Levine getting their first real shots against Tennessee? Yeah, they came back to Earth.

I'm very pleased with how he played. I was really surprised with his willingness to play the run, like the Webb of old.

However, keep in mind that he played limited snaps against a rookie quarterback, with the pass rush feasting. He had great coverage on a few plays, so I definitely think he's earned his time on the field, but temper expectations

I was thinking of Levine's game vs Tennessee myself.

I understand the excitement for a possible savior UDFA gem, but it was half a game, y'all need to temper your expectations. Root for his success, but be realistic too.

We lose anymore cbs and I'm trying out as a walk-on lol

I'm just what they seem to like... Played both safety positions, so they can convert me to cb

but seriously, when does the injuries stop at cb for us gosh

i was at the game yesterday and man he looked good. his very first series ever, he made all 3 plays and forced the 3 and out, one of the plays he made actually caused harbs to throw a challenge flag because it looked like a pick. he was flying around out there like a mad man and he plays with some serious swagger, also, the jags WR corps is nothing to sneeze at, without question the best part of their team and with marqise lee, cecil shorts, marcedes lewis at TE and even gerhart being an excellent 3DB, those guys were the threat in that game, and melvin was one of the factors that prevented that from being the san diego game all over again. dat boy good.

All I know is this:  I forget what down it was, but Bortles threw a duck and instead of lagging behind like all of our other CBs sans The Jimmy, Melvin ACTUALLY MADE A BREAK ON THE BALL and if it had been in bounds he probably would have gotten a pick six.  Keep.  This.  Kid.  In.  The. Lineup.

Reminds me of Jimmy honestly. Long, tall, and strong. Looks like a good press man guy. High ceiling if you ask me.

Reminds me more of Cary Williams. mainly because of body type and the way we acquired him

He was with the Bucs for 2 years and never played in a game. We sign him and in his first regular season action plays pretty well. I'd just like to know what exactly they are doing down in Tampa.

Probably not overreacting to a single game?

Ask yourself this... would anybody be that surprised or disappointed if Melvin didn't make this team next season?

Just far too many unknowns at this point, and the sample size is not nearly significant enough to make any sort of judgments. He could be a future stud, or he could be the best looking of a large pile of crap at the position.

I think Tampa would like to know too.

If he can do it this week I'll give him serious props, in a perfect senerio he becomes our #1 corner this year, and when Jimmy comes back one of them convert over to RCB so we can have them be out #1 and #2 corners.

Here is maybe a positive in all this we could have a secondary with this size starting

Melvin ( 6 '2)

Hill ( 6 ' 2)

MIles ( 6  '2)

Cason ( 6 '1)

Webb ( 5 ''10)

If nothing else that could allow us more man to man.

I was just looking at his college stats and he has more passes defended (34) then Jimmy Smith, Patrick Peterson, Richard Sherman, Darelle Revis....... Just an FYI:) Aquib Talib had 56!

Does that mean he was targeted a lot? Is that a good thing? I have no idea how Cornerback stats work lol.

In my opinion he has good ball skills. it seemed like injuries were keeping him off the field for Bucs.

Since Asa is now done as well I guess Melvin will get his long term shot to prove he's as good as he appeared in his first NFL game.

Go Melvin! stay healthy above all else!

You know what really impressed me about this kid?  It had to had been after his 1st or 2nd tackle.  The cameras were all panned in on him.  Right after the play...the guy does some gesture I forgot (either a chest bump or a finger point)...and with that gesture, he intentionally riles up the crowd.  This kid has moxy! Pure moxy!  It was his enthusiasm that got me excited.  I pray that he succeeds, because he will be an electrifying player for us in the future.

I know that in the age of big receivers height means an awful lot, but despite size, does the size o f the heart tor the chance to make a dream come true or technique mean anything? No dis meant, but as I am older and the game passes coaches by your take on the game really means something to me! Height can't be understated, heart?  Depends on the player or can the Ravens over come this? I ain't right, you ain;t wrong but it's crunch time for our team, Plus you got a strong argument, I just have to believe! No fight, let's talk, we both want the same thing, much respect for making me think, great post, hope others join us!
