Rashaan Melvin

I wish the whole team had the intensity he did. The whole team besides defense line should of played with more fire knowing this could of finished the season.

Was he really that good? Who'd he cover? How many snaps he have?

Can you blame people for being excited? After the garbage play we've had all year. I temper my expectations as well it was his first game lol. But then again he's showed us more in one game, then some of the cbs.

Well, they sort of play different positions.

They do.

But Melvin, a UDFA, has shown in his first game, both in the NFL and with the Ravens, better coverage and tackling skills and that he's more of a natural playmaker than Elam, our 1st round (barely) draft pick, has in 2 seasons as a starter,.

What a breath of fresh air he was today. He actually made plays instead of relying on a poorly thrown pass or his man dropping the ball, or of course allowing an automatic completion when the ball is in the air. Call it premature or whatever but he shown more in one game than Webb, Jackson and whoever else we have left has all year.

The best thing Rashaan Melvin did was challenge the football and be in the right spot at the right time. I know it may be premature to say this; but, for a "rookie" cornerback to already be playing like that, it is amazing how well Melvin plays the position.

Between the almost interception (in Melvin's first coverage assignment) and that 4th-down deep pass (where he gave that Jaguars receiver no room to make the catch), Rashaan Melvin has done the most for a Ravens CB not named Jimmy Smith, this season. Yeah, he's probably no savior; but, I'll take his skill and definitely his intelligence, for now...

agree, especially that sideline play, that was impressive, and that was an INT in my book,

He only played like 10 snaps, and he played against the Jaguars 3rd WR, not much of a challenge.

I think their third wide receiver is Cecil Short whom is no slouch and pretty good especially when healthy.

I'll agree with that. What choice cd do I have?

Not much considering the  "next man up " might be one of us.....

He's looked the best of any of these other replacements we've trotted out there.  Keep giving him chances.  It can't hurt.

Interesting wording lmao.  Everything hurts in our secondary right now ;)

Lets hope Melvin can prove himself in these next couple of games.  Looks like from today that he's earned his spot on the field.  Definitely gotta work on his contact with receivers, there were a couple of times during the game where he got away with stuff that could very easily have been called PI.  But boy was he flashing across the field, every possession once he came on the field he made a good play.  Thats exactly what we need.

On one drive he had 2-3 tackles and a pass deflected almost intercepted. He ended the Jags as soon as he came onto the field.

Agressive play attacking the ball we havent seen that a lot.

Unlike Levine who was sitting 17 yards out against SD and got beat my 7 yards hook/out for 80 yards on the last drive

I saw alot of things that I liked. Jaqs even decided to challenge him for what would have been the game and he played it PERFECTLY.

Finally we may have ourselfves a gem!

Totally agree, dude stepped up and played like a vet.  I believe it's a gem and I hope it's true.

We just take anything we got and this dude played good press coverage and technique, just like Jimmy like most of us notice.

I like what I see....

I think the reactions, for the most part, are an overreaction. Does anyone remember Gorrer and Levine getting their first real shots against Tennessee? Yeah, they came back to Earth.

I'm very pleased with how he played. I was really surprised with his willingness to play the run, like the Webb of old.

However, keep in mind that he played limited snaps against a rookie quarterback, with the pass rush feasting. He had great coverage on a few plays, so I definitely think he's earned his time on the field, but temper expectations

He played well. I like that he's got some size and that he's pretty aggressive , not tenative like our secondary full of midgets .

Maybe he can be a spark like Sam Shields was when he finally got playing time as an i drafted free agent

Showed good pursuit on running plays and was surprized he wasn't challenged more but it seemed like he never gave up any seperation.

Right now he has a pulse and can play cornerback.  That may have to be enough for now.

That said, he was good in relief and he is definitely playing next week.  Lets see what happens when he has to play 3 down football for 60 minutes.

You're missing the point. The important thing is he played 10 snaps without getting hurt. That's the kind of CB we need. :)

He reminds me of Cary Williams ... He wasn't the best we ever had, but he's was solid enough and far better than anything we've got limping around at the moment

Right now that will get him in the Ring Of Honor.

There's a reason Harbaugh didn't say anything about him, yall act like this guys gonna be our #2 cornerback after Jimmy comes back.

Root for the guy bro, he's on your team. Why you so down on him? He showed fight and played alright for first game, why not get excited about that.

Just saw more of his footage, he only allowed 1 catch for about 11 yards, great tackler. I denounce and reject my early comments.

The reason I was down on him is because we've been through this before with Levine, Gorrer all of em.
