Run, Joe! Run!

What's to stop a defender from taking a cheap shot on him in the pocket?

I wouldn't expect him to be like Cam Newton, but more like Rogers or Wilson playing it smart.

while flacco has some speed but he isent as nimble as rodgers and wilson in evading rushers.

flacco would resemble big ben more but im not sure we would want that because that guy is almost Always injured in 1 or another way.

One big scramble every two or three games that sparks a drive or kills a defense like he had last week should be enough to make defenses respect it, but not too much to cause those opportunities to disappear.

Basically this. The odd 12-yard run can spark the offence and change the momentum of a game, as well as forcing DCs to be awake to it (boost for the passing game). But too many (not to mention too many designed plays) just dilute its effectiveness and open him up to some big hits.

Not as agile no but joe actually has really really good top speed..

*insert clip of him chasing down that dude last year on the int TD run at home*

his top end speed wont make him as elusive as rodgers or wilson lol.

those guys make defenders miss before throwing or running up field.

flacco will have to break tackles like big ben before he can use his speed.

that is a recipe for dissater IMO.

Not what I was implying at all.. And no he doesn't "have to make people miss like Big Ben"

And yes his top speed will make him elusive in a sense.. We've seen it before.. He's gonna beat that LB/DL to the edge and turn up.

Not the same *agility* as a mobile QB but he can still move well and fast north and south

how many times has be beaten a LB/DL to the edge so far in his career?

ive seen him use his speed on rare occasions, i have never seen him use it on a regular basis.

im not sure what you are trying to imply TBH.

he wont ever be able to evade defenders and run like wilson and rodgers.

he wont ever be able to beat defenders to the edge at will like a keapernick or cam newton.

he can however catch a defense off guard using his feet once in a while at the right time.

he can also extend plays like big ben because he is just as big and strong and also faster but i rather not have him do that because he could get injured easily.

the QB flacco resembles the most when it comes to the ability to run is big ben and so it you want him to be more of a runner thats the kind of plays you should expect.

Well, this is one of the reasons why Kubiak's system is so good a fit for him. It takes advantage of Flacco's mobility without putting him in any real danger, for the most part.

Should we run with him more aggressively? Nah. As long as our OL and WR do their jobs, Flacco will take us where we want to go. No need to mess with that.

I tried to find that clip for this thread and my OP.  It took him about 20 yards but he caught a guy with 4.45-ish speed.  I don't expect hi to make any 80 yard TD runs, but if he finds a gap and no open receivers, I'm for him gaining at least some yardage or 1st down without running into tacklers.

Man I watched that clip a million times after it happened.. That was even my reaction in the game thread still remember

Everyone ticked off typing stuff and I'm just wow joe was freaking rolling

That play today is what I wanted. Probably won't work that well again for a while, but that was a really nice call and great execution by the line and Flacco alike.

At least once. Beat them to the edge today.

the run today scared the stuffins out of me.   It looked like he was gonna have to take a hit to get to the first down marker.

He showed great vision, weaving through the open lanes and making his way safely out of bounds (which I'll let slide because he's a QB and doesn't need to get hit, unlike Pierce, who ran out of bounds unforgivably on the next play).

As some one said in the game day thread, I think Pierce doesnt want to get hit any more, which is a shame cause that would be the end of his career.

Joe's faster than Ben, but Ben has better feet.

pretty sure i said joe is faster then ben.

simply put when it comes to flacco running ability he has more in common with ben then with wilson , rodgers or keapernick for instance.

some people think joe can juke people in the back field like wilson or make people miss like rodgers or has the speed like keap to get to the edge at will lol

A great call on that 3rd down play. I thought for sure they were passing and i'm thinking they gotta stop the clock. 3 more downs and yes to the poster who commented about Pierce running out of bounds. Use your head.

Quote the post. I don't see anyone saying the stuff you said.

you dont see people using aaron rodgers and russel wilson in the replies?

you dont see codizzle saying he gonna beat the DL/OLB to the edge ?

my reply that you quoted the first time had the reply from codizzle in it  lol.

OP has been talking about flacco getting in rodgers territory  and not to mention a couple of his other replies......

go troll someone else. (added to the ignore list)

I see Kubiak has listened to us.

This thread is what popped into my head when that play happened.  I wasn't really for designed runs, but that one worked like a charm.
