Think he's going to Oakland. Not sure if it's confirmed though.

Honestly why would anyone want to go there? It's a yucky area and a horrible football team?

At least Baltimore has a good football team

Edit: I know it's money. Just trying to get a laugh,

Wouldn't surprise me if this entire fiasco was planned. We are in competition with the Broncos after all.

I mean, think about it. Media is speculating that Fox could be fired if the Broncos lose. Kubiak comes out with that big unsolicited announcement about building something great. Elway doesn't fire Fox right away, no waits a day. Doesn't ask to interview Kubiak right away, waits a few days. Let's all the good options make other commitments. Then he makes his move. Done deal, neat as a pin, Ravens are left scrambling through the leftovers.

Just a thought.

That's a lot of effort to go through just to make sure a side doesn't get Kyle Shanahan as a backup option.

True. But why wait for days on end to request an interview though. Doesn't add up to me.

Ozzie Newsome is a pretty shrewd guy. I think he has known for weeks the possibility of Kubiak leaving was very real. I think John and Ozzie discussed and planned for this. We aren't hearing even the slighlest hint of the Ravens interviewing anyone because they are promoting from within. They aren't scrambling around looking for phone numbers because they had a plan.

So who would that promotion from within be then?

I dunno, I guess so the logistics of the interview can be finalised and both sides have a day or two to think on their options and look at how they'd put a team together. The Broncos brass would have been putting together a shortlist as well, in case Kubiak turned them down, so getting on top of that would have taken a bit of time too.

I just really can't see anything sinister going on, and sometimes a tree is just a tree. And it sounds like Kubiak's been fairly forthright with Harbs since the Denver opening came up, and it sounds like the Ravens have been looking at OC options for a few days anyway (I forget who it was that said it - Schefter or Rapoport or someone), albeit behind the scenes.

Honestly, a word would be nice. I keep picturing Harbs, Oz & DeCosta frantically dialing numbers on their cell phones and getting "sorry, already committed."

There's no conspiracy, we just had terrible luck.

I wouldn't go that far.  We've just had some hardships to overcome, but not terrible luck.  The phrase terrible luck is reserved for the CLE Browns (actually, for ALL of Cleveland sports)

Like I say, I'd wager that chat between Harbs and Kubiak was about gauging his intent and would have been when the Ravens really began their search/shortlist process. It would make more sense to keep it quiet too, because things could get pretty unprofessional if we came out and said we were shopping around and the Denver thing fell through for whatever reason.

All these names being bandied about...our OC will be someone totally different. Just like last year, Kubiak wasn't even a part of the conversation until we actually hired him.

That was a pretty unique opportunity, to be fair. My money's still on promoting Thomas Hammock.

But is he the right guy for Joe? Will him and Joe mesh well?

Jason LaCanfora speculated last year when Castillop was promoted to OL coach that he might be next in line for OC. That was before his success with the line this year. Look at what the line and running game accomplished, There is a case to be made whether you like the direction or not. I'm not saying it's the best move or not, there just seems to be a lot of circumstances pointing to this particular resolution. The O-line has been close to stellar this year and Harbaugh has made no secret of the fact that he has the highest regard for Castillo .

Are you secretly Juan Castillo? Three of your four posts have been about promoting him, and the fourth strongly implied it.

Can you imagine the horror that will infect these threads if that happened?

Yes but it's quite possible that Castillo could be a good offensive coordinator.

Don't care if he's viewed as soft, Trestman is my favorite at this point. Him & Gase. Hope one gets done.

If we settle with Castillo, we're screwed.

I think Harbaugh already has our new OC on the team, and it's called Madden. He's going to clearly just turn on Madden and let it call the plays. Use Kubiak's playbook and work from there.

In all seriousness, it's certainly a quandary we have right here. I think the ideal replacement was Kyle, considering that he would be motivated to look awesome and get a HC promotion. I can understand why Kyle chose Atlanta, though. Atlanta is a good gig and he will call all the shots and additionally he will turn that franchise around and get a lot more notoriety for doing it. Here, he would have yet again been in Kubiak's shadow. I get the move for him.

I do like the idea of Lane Kiffin, but I am not sure about that either. He has a really really really bad habit of zoning in on one WR and just using that one guy. I would avoid him at all costs, personally. I think he's way too one dimensional and I think it would hurt Flacco more than help.

I'm mixed on Gase. He could be great, could not be that great. I have no idea what he brings because he's an enigma.

I do like the idea of Mike Shanahan, because I personally think he's one of the best at it but the question is whether he wants to do it. I'm not sure if he's all into the idea of taking a back seat to Harbaugh. It could work, though.

I think Craig Ver Steeg could be an option, a 7-year in-house candidate  who is the offensive assistant and probably learned some things from Kubiak. I don't like Engram as an option--he has never been a coordinator anywhere, really. On the subject of Hammock, I'm not so sure I like that idea, considering that he hasn't had a ton of experience as an OC either at the collegiate level. I just don't see any options on the team outside of CVS (lol, the pharmacy), who doesn't have a lot of OC experience either although he has been here a very long time and has also been around a very long time. It's either him or Castillo, as others have said.

I think we have to go outside the organization. Perhaps Joe Philbin if he's fired?

If we can't have the son we'll take the dad. I'd put all my eggs in Mike Shanahan. Although this might be another one year rental.

Really can't see Harbs and Mike getting a long

No. However, I think Juan is one of John's guys. He has demonstrated a lot of success this year. John is loyal. Juan is very experienced and he is right there. Jason Lacaforna speculated more than a year ago that Juan might be John's long term goal to be OC. I think if you think about who the Ravens are, who John is, and recent history, Juan is right there.

Ozzie may not be in favor of that

Tough one. He has no past play calling expierience. Things didn't go to well when he was promoted to defensive coordinator for the Eagles. I have a hard time believing he's ready to call the shots on offense. He should stick to what he's good at.

I dunno why we go through this gnashing of teeth.  We're Ravens fans.  We wouldn't know what to do with a consistently good offense if we had one.  It's like giving a monkey an Xbox.  Oh sure, he has fun mashing the buttons and being amazed at the pretty lights on the screen, but after a while he gets that glazed over look and then breaks the controller over a rock.  You don't want that to happen do you?

No, of course not ... so, back to the familiar territory of "WAIT ..WHAT?!!  .. it was 3rd and 2 .. what are you doing?  WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!  Ok ... D got it back now ... OH FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS BIG AND SMALL ... A DOUBLE REVERSE?  AGAIN?  AGAIN?!!  *vibrate*"
