Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs

52 posts in this topic

I think this is something that's flown under the radar a bit. I didn't see a single person mention this yet, so I thought I'd bring it up.

Right now, Elvis Dumervil is tied for the NFL lead with 16 sacks, tying his own personal record and breaking the Ravens single season record. The season has three more games and with weaker right tackles in Jacksonville and Houston, I think Dumervil could push for 20, which would be a huge mark for him.

Terrell Suggs, after receiving tons of flack earlier in the season, has gotten 8 sacks in the last 8 games, after starting the first five with just .5 sacks. He's really heated up. A lot of that has to do with better blitz packages being used, but Suggs is just playing at a much higher level. He'll face a tougher task of getting sacks because he'll play Joe Thomas and Duane Brown, but it's entirely possible that he hits 10 sacks and the Ravens have a pass rushing duo with 10+ sacks each, which would be huge.

I believe that if the pair notches one more total sack, they'll break the franchise record by having 25.5 sacks between the two.

These two have been really heating up down the stretch and stepping up for the secondary's poor play. I can only imagine what this pair would be doing if Jimmy Smith were still healthy.

Yea they have been hunting lately. They really abused Dallas Thomas this week, I think Suggs' solo sack came on Dallas Thomas as well. Twas brutal. He gave up 4.5 sacks on his side if i'm not mistaken. (Mosley came untouched from the right side as well but don't think that was Dallas' fault)

The opposing QB will scream on every play "Lord Mercy!"

Doom has been on fire and as you say he has some nice matchups the next couple of weeks on the right side.

As for Suggs, he was playing at a high level at the beginning of the season as well, he just wasn't getting much in terms of sacks, now he is getting them. One heck of a duo between those 2, among the best in the NFL

I think it started getting discussed here:

Not enough praise on here for the season doom is having...

Nice little run to the end the season and we talking a career year league wide not just franchise wise

But the reality is that it was discussed during the game thread.

Either way, it's great news for sure. Nobody really gives Suggs credit, but he's been playing great. I think the triple threat of Suggs, Dumervil and McPhee is giving offensive coordinators and OL nightmares. It's a pick your poison deal.

I think Suggs would have a lot more sacks but he's getting extra attention. Lol.

His personal best is 17, but the rate he's going he'll break it in the next game. Rookie QB, that's going to be fun next week  :Dancing_Banana_Homer_by_zorkky:

Their play, when on, can cover up the inadequacies on the back end. Keep it rollin' men!

Exactly! That's why we won in New Orleans and Miami but lost to the Chargers.

I think Suggs would've had about 4-5more sacks if Dumervil didn't get to the QB a half a milisecond faster.

Like yesterday's Miami game, Doom was just an inch closer to Tannenhill for those sacks.

Both deservedly should be recognized as the best tandem as pass rush duo in the NFL right now.

Yea just haven't mentioned Suggs cause it seems like some of us are always defending him when he isn't getting the stats..

Anyone with any football knowledge can see what sizzle brings to the table but he definitely deserves some praise when talking of doom's success

Doomizzle?

Seriously, they've been great. I know Elvis put on some weight (muscle) in the offseason to handle what he described as the physical AFCN and it's showed. He also credits Upshaw a lot for taking snaps and keeping him fresh.

Suggs is out there a ton and while he isn't getting the same production, he's a presence out there. McPhee is also being noticed more after his fast start. If they all keep playing this way, they'll be hard to stop.

Single season sack record is 22.5. Doom at 16 and with 3 games left, if he can at least 2.5 sacks a game he will take the crown. But he's tied with Justin Houston right now I think. Got a good feeling he will feast on Bortles

Just sad, really. If we had ANY semblance of a secondary, we'd be 2-3 games better.

It's always rough to have a bunch of injuries at one position.  but we should have a pretty similar team next year.  hopefully healthier

Fax machines are just wonderful technology.

I still can't believe that people actually use them in the 21st century.

It's just a shame the Broncos aren't paying more of his salary than we are this season like they did last year. Charitable of them.

I knew 2009 was his best year, just thought it was 16. He'll break that against the Jaguars

Definitely. I just hope Sizzle can get in the double digits as well

I'd imagine he can do it against the Jags. They're offensive line is worse than the Dolphins and they have a rookie QB

Man 3 minimum..

We've lost 3 different games on ONE play
