Vent thread: Dolphins(first half) Talk about the Game (second half)

306 posts in this topic

First quarter defense was "here we go again."  Then we decided to play aggressive close to the line of scrimmage coverage and played really well.  Imagine that.  Actually gives our pass rush a chance when they can't just immediately throw it out to wide open receivers for easy 8 yard gains. So good job Dean this week. Hopefully you don't see what works and then do the exact opposite next week.

No, it worked because the QB sneak is an extremely effective short yardage play.

Yep

the only reason that worked, is because miami tried to call our bluff, they thought we were just trying to draw them offsides, joe knew this and snapped it right away, i thought it was brilliant on joes part to not call any fake hikes and just get under center and bring it, but overall i didnt like the call, you only go for it in that field position on a need basis.

During the press conference, Harbs said they had already decided when that drive started to go for it on 4th and short if it came down to it.

Great job by Dumervil! Crazy how people were screaming last week that he should be cut bc of the offside penalties.

People actually said that? Ridiculous.

how often do we succeed on 4th and 1 situations though? not very often, most of the time theyre in the redzone so i guess the defense plays it differently, but we have had terrible luck on 4th and 1, whether its a sneak or a FB run up the middle or a dive, and the dolphins had been stuffing us on short yardage rushing attempts prior to that, so i think theres more to it than "qb sneak works"

Not enough praise on here for the season doom is having...

Nice little run to the end the season and we talking a career year league wide not just franchise wise

Dumervil had a great game and did not line up offside once even though playing on the road He knew where he was all day

I think we are over 50% on 4th down conversions. QB sneak does work almost every time.

None that I heard.

I saw it on social media than I did on here

But yeah, Doom is playing some great football, silly mistakes aside. It's even more incredible to see how well he's playing since he's only 5'10 at a position dominated by guys who are 6'3+. He's a master of leverage, and he has some brute strength despite his small frame. Explosive and powerful. Love watching this guy play.

Yes, we are 9/15 on fourth down, which is ranked 5th in the NFL. We convert 60 percent of our fourth down attempts.

Dumervil is like the Michael Oher of OLBs

What's the cap hit for letting him go in the off-season and using that money to extend Upshaw?

Like I said, last week folks wanted to cut Doom.  LOL.  I wouldn't make this up

I think we have a 100% success rate this season on qb sneak first down pickups.

You say this cause you missed the frat quarter. It was a terrible start. The team didn't look prepared initially.

Three straight three and outs has to be a first for us, considering all the announcers were talking about was the fact that we have the second fewest in the league, including two of our patented 9-yard three and outs. And the defense picked up right where it left off last week. That 97-yard drive to end the half probably saved the season.

P.S. Is the frat quarter where all the players hit a beer funnel and Jell-O shots for 15 minutes?

Did Torrey get hurt again today ? I noticed him on the sidelines a lot and don't think he made a single catch .

He realized he was probably too hurt to contribute after we already announced the inactives, so we just had to use him as a decoy today.

They said he felt good in warmups before the inactives were released, but once final pre-game warmups started, his knee started to swell and he knew he couldn't do too much.

Wasnt able to watch the game (problems of living in philly area) but just from the highlights I wanted to point out one play. I've been saying for years why when the Ravens are on the 1-5 yard line cant we do those easy little out passes you see brady and manning do all the time for easy touchdowns. My favorite call of the game was the first TD pass with steve smith getting free on the little out route and rolling Flacco out. Those are the easy pitch and catches that make effective red zone offenses and I would love to see more of those play calls when close to the goal line. Overall solid gameplan by Kubiak today and Flacco was pretty on point with the exception of one dumb mistake

Lmao. I'm almost always on mobile and was hung over earlier.

The 2nd fewest 3 and outs was honestly shocking to me. I never would've guessed that.

Guess our offense is a little better than you give them credit for. We actually rank near the top in average drive length and plays/drive.

We are also still almost bottom of the league in 3 and outs, even with the two we had today.

Right. That's what started this conversation. We had three today to start, and that had to be a first for us.

It's not that I don't give them credit. It's that prior to the bye week they didn't show up in big games. To me, a lot of those numbers come in lumps. If you look at the averages I guarantee there's significant dip in Colts and Bengals games. The 3 of those were very winnable. Even today, they almost went a whole half without scoring. The team can't expect to win games like this, especially when the secondary can't be relied on to keep games close.

Anytime we can go like four or five straight drives into the redzone, we should have a shot. Whether it's to start the game or later. This amount of points should be enough no matter when we score it. We could have scored more today or against Tennessee if we had to and didn't choose to simply run the clock out.

I still have yet to see Urban but I have a feeling that guy will be a pure beast.

Very very loose definition but was getting shout outs of "JJ watt Lite" so to speak during preseason..

He could develop at a rate like Arthur jones did... By year 3 we could see some great production from him

When I went to camp over the summer, Urban really stood out.  For such a big guy, we used him in a ton of different roles.  He was all over the line in 3-4 and 4-3 sets and they even used him as a standup 3-4 OLB at times as well.  He was flat out dominate the day I saw him.  He's my prospect/young player crush.

What confuses me is just how dominant he looks and plays, despite his limited production in college. Looks to be a real good player yet he didn't really do much in college, statistically speaking

I'd like to give a little shout-out to my man Jacoby Jones.

He didn't screw anything up today. And he actually made a small contribution - only two plays but still.

Jacoby just holds a special place in my heart, it's been painful to watch him struggle so.
