Haloti Ngata suspended 4 games for PED's

297 posts in this topic

Well, at least we will get a good, long look at Timmy Jernigan.

We will also sort of get to evaluate how truly valuable Ngata is to this team in the next four games.

Top 10 pick please!

Can lose every game the rest of the season and you still probably won't get a top 10 pick.

Not going to happen.

Everyone who gets busted for PEDs says it's adderall, and then tests confirm it is.

What's in it for Haloti to lie? Why would he lie about it being adderall? If it's leaked out that it was roids, he looks even worse. I'll take his word for it, especially since he's a good character guy.

High charecter guys dont look for shortcuts... and dont use PEDs... so, yup...throw that out the window.

This hurts Haloti a lot he loses 2 million over this from his salary!

Haloti Ngata will lose $2 million from his $8.5 million base salary. That number will be subtracted from the Ravens' salary cap

Could someone explain this? Subtracted from our salary cap? Is that bad or good?

Adderall is the brand name of a prescription medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adults. Doctors also prescribe Adderall (but not Adderall XR) to treat narcolepsy. Adderall is a combination of two stimulant drugs, amphetamine and dextroamphetamine.

I kind of hope Jernigan can compensate for Ngata. We can save a lil money and let him walk. Sign him to a 1 day a few years from now, retires a Raven.

What!? I was just checking the Ravens front page and found Ngata was suspended over PEDs...what the hell?

I thought it's some sort of a scam page or something but it wasn't.  Good god....4 games left of the season and he got suspended.

When it pours, it floods....

It seems like the phrase "next man up" refers to the next man to do something idiotic. Everyday I get that feeling that a player on the roster will either get hurt or do something selfish to screw the squad, stupid move dude. Well whats the word on cody?

As a Ravens fan this season is making it really difficult for me to trash talk other fans - which is annoying because that's the best part.

Pardon my ignorance....someone please explain to me why so many players are getting in trouble for Adderall? I googled it, and do not understand why Adderall is a banned substance, maybe someone has insight into why that is?

Anyway...this is bad news...sigh

While it hurts to lose Ngata after he was having an amazing season, $2 million to the cap to roll over will be really big for next year...

Good, in theory. It means we could either sign a player (unlikely) or roll that cap space over to the next season.

I found this to be an interesting read, but this is from before the new drug policy:

The report reminded readers that many NFL players reportedly use Adderall as a cover-up for other drugs. That's because the NFL drug policy doesn't allow the league to say which drug caused a player to fail a test.

The NFL would like to be able to publicly announce the causes of failed tests but hasn't gained that concession from the players association.

They can take adderall since adults have ADHD, but you need a valid prescription by a real MD and have it blessed by the NFL, THEN you can take it. Jocks like it because it helps them focus one of the side effects it can make you drop weight-- Not an issue here

The rationale I've heard in the past is that it increases attentiveness when studying the playbook and helps with intuition in the middle of the game.  The real issue with Adderall isn't really its effects.  Pretty much anyone can get a prescription for it.  The NFL basically cracks down on guys that don't go through that process.  It's pretty stupid overall, but I'm sure all Ngata had to do was go to the doctor and get the prescription and then file the paperwork. It's really that simple.

Ironically, its the exact same amount of cap space that we would have gained by cutting Webb....

This is where conspiracy theorists should start chiming in...

It's an amphetamine. It's a felony to possess illegally, I believe.

As for effects, it's a stimulant. It greatly increases your focus and ability to just process information

Good for the Ravens
