Week 14 Discussion (Other Teams)

484 posts in this topic

Just looking at the standings, let's say the Raiders do beat the 49ers and moves them to 2-11 on the season. We would have a 5 way tie for the number one pick as the Buccaneers, Jaguars, Titans and Jets are currently 2-11. The Raiders would join them if they hold on and win.

Wonder if we have ever had a 5 way tie for the number one pick and how would the tiebreaker work lol.

I don't think we control our own destiny now, do we? We still need certain teams to lose to make it as a wild card. I still think the division is up for grabs.

I also want the Browns to have as low of a draft pick as possible. They have had too many decent drafts. I don't think they'll make the playoffs yet, but I do like the idea of them not having as high a pick. It's why I'm rooting for Buffalo.

If the Chiefs lose we do, because if we win out we will earn a WC because even if the Steelers win out, they win the division if they don't we either take their WC spot or win the division. If the Chiefs win today and win out they keep the WC spot and if the Steelers win out we do not make the playoffs. Go Cardinals!

Watching the Seattle defense I can't believe how good they are. They hardly ever miss a tackle. They swarm all over the ball. The Eagles are not doing much and certainly can't run it.

Yeah. So we only control it if KC loses. It's still contingent on them losing. But thanks. I'm not even being sarcastic. I appreciate the explanation.

But we still don't control our destiny because we're reliant upon the Steelers winning out, or the Bengals dropping a different game.

They really do tackle well. They're very well coached in that area. I recall them doing something different in regards to teaching tackling form.

If we win out and so do the Steelers-  the Bengals will be at the very least 1/2 game behind us. They do not make the playoffs. If Chiefs lose today, the Steelers have the last WC............but if they Steelers win out, they jump up to AFC North Champs and if we win out, we then take the last remaining WC spot. So if the Chiefs lose today, we control our own destiny. If we win out and the Bengals win out, then they are division champs and we take the Steelers WC spot, if the Chiefs lose today. If the Chiefs win today and win out, we still need help.

Just use ESPN's Playoff Machine and figure out all the scenarios lol.

Raiders back in the red zone again lol.

What I'm saying is that we need the Steelers to win out in that situation.  That means we don't control our destiny, because we need another team to do something.

Even in that situation if we win out there are scenarios where we still don't make the playoffs.  Unless I'm crazy, that means we don't control our destiny.

So far so good. If the Cardinals can get 7 on this drive they will be up two scores late in the 4th quarter and Alex Smith is not the type that leads comebacks.

Never mind.  I give up trying to wrap my head around this.  I think I see what's being said.  Are there any other teams that are tied w/ our record for the last WC spot?

Using ESPN Playoff Generator, what he's saying is correct. We win out and Steelers win out, we lose the division to the Steelers due to the tiebreaker. At 11-5 we would be the 5th or 6th seed and IN the playoffs by winning out.

Yeah, I finally figured it out above kinda.  I thought there was another WC team that we'd possibly lose our spot to even though we won out.

I apologize, I am not really understanding because if the Steelers lose even one game and The Ravens win out....we jump them. I was just saying that if the Chiefs lose today and we keep win out, we are in. I know I am still a little confusing but I am having trouble explaining it better.

Haha - no problem.  I'm intoxicated so my comprehension skills are...lacking.

I see what you were saying now - basically either the Steelers or Bengals have to drop a game (or tie), so either way we'd either win the division (depending on the Steelers/Bengals losing another game) or grab one of the last WC spots.

The Browns are now 1 game behind us. The Bills are losing to the Broncos by 2 touchdowns with 3 minutes remaining. The Chiefs are down 3 to the Cards with 5 minutes remaining. So if the Broncos and Cards hold on to their leads - the Chiefs and Bills will also be one game behind us. We are tied with the Steelers record but they hold the tiebreaker over us with less losses in both Conference and Division.

By George, I think you got it :)

I guess the Bills still have a chance they are in the RZ so if they score a TD and recover an on-sides-kick they have a shot.
