Week 14 Discussion (Other Teams)

484 posts in this topic

Here we are in week 14 and playoff seeding and divisions are wide open as they ever been. While the Colts can clinch the AFC South with a win and Texans loss, the rest of the league is yet to be determined. The Broncos can clinch a playoff spot but need a host of things to happen to ensure of it. Anyway let's get on with it....

Cowboys @ Bears: Cowboys are 8-4, and losing out means no playoffs and a fourth straight year 8-8. The Bears are holding on to playoff hopes and need a win to stay alive in the wild card hunt.

Rams @ Redskins: Second week in a row we get a game we have waited 2 years for, oh never mind. After that horrible trade, we still don't even get RG3 vs the Rams but hey Colt McCoy looks promising, if only Washington had some kind of defense.

Panthers @ Saints: Well let's hope the Saints are going to keep winning because winning out means they be 9-7 and we won't have to deal with a 5/6 win NFC South champion. The Panthers meanwhile are trying to stay in the hunt after the loss to the Vikings.

Colts @ Browns: Manziel Mania... is still benched. Pettine has declared Hoyer the starter and we know the Colts can be beaten. A win by the Browns helps their playoff chances while a loss would only mean it's closer to Johnny Football time.

Bills @ Broncos: Who knew we have to contend with Buffalo for a wild card spot in 2014. This is my upset of the week, Bills are playing good defense and we know Manning shuts down when he plays a good defense.

Chiefs @ Cardinals: Bruce Arians has defended Drew Stanton, saying he will take the Cardinals where they need to go. Right now that would be from the number one seed to potentially out of the playoffs. Chiefs need a win to stay in the wild card hunt.

Seahawks @ Eagles: Mark Sanchez, meet Pete Carroll again. Eagles are playing good ball, and the Seahawks are getting hot at the right time, could they steal the NFC West right under the Cardinals nose?

Patriots @ Chargers: Yay, no Manning on SNF this week! Oh damn it, we still got that Brady fellow who ends up in prime time every other week too. Anyway, Chargers are looking to build momentum toward a wild card spot, but could steal the AFC West if the Broncos stumble.

What's really funny is that we gotta root for the Broncos,Colts and Patriots to win every week. That freakin kills me.

You know it's bad when the Browns gotta hold a press conf  to announce the starter for this week. Rofl.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing an under .500 team win the NFCSouth.

The Browns (like some other teams) have a weekly Wednesday press conference to discuss the previous week and upcoming week.  They didn't do it just to name a starting QB - it just happens to be the only thing the Cleveland media and fans care about right now regarding them.  =]

My two cents - they made the right call.  Hoyer (despite his subpar play the past three weeks) has earned the right to start this game.  Once the Browns are pretty much eliminated from playoff contention then put Manziel in and see what you got but up until now you send a bad message to the veterans on that team if you bench Hoyer.  I'm glad Pettine didn't succomb to the pressure of that decision.

Panthers vs. Saints?  Yeesh.

Other random nugget:

Richardson added that he plans to jump into the Dawg Pound if he scores a touchdown on Sunday and that he feels he has some “true fans” who will welcome such a plunge. We’re not sure he’s right about that assessment, but a strong game this weekend would surely make the Colts feel as happy about swinging a deal for Richardson as they have at any point in the last two years.

Uhhhhh ok.  You do that Trent.  Let me and everyone else know how it goes.  :D

Gotta have some faith, Hoyer has taken you this far at least

It has nothing to do with Hoyer.  I believe in Hoyer I think he's a decent QB who deserves to get his full chance.  It's simply logistics - we're last in all tie-break scenarios in the AFC and we'd need a LOT of things to happen to have a chance.  We'd also have to probably win at least 3 (maybe all 4) games and finish with 10/11 wins and have tough matchups.  It's just the reality of the overall situation and odds are they simply won't make it.  Trust me if I'm wrong then I'm all for that - I'm just a realist when it comes to the Browns.

Even if they don't this season is a win for Cleveland - they've had some great moments and won some great games and have a great chance to finish at or above .500.  That is a tremendous achievement for them considering how they've been since they returned in '99.

We are even worse in conference record though, you guys have it tough but you do play Indy and Cincy at home. I think if you win 3 of those games you have a chance. Still though, it is great to have all 4 teams in the hunt at this time of year, makes things a lot more interesting.

I've been saying this for a while now. I don't think you guys will make the playoffs this season, but this season's been huge for you and if you can build off that I could see you being regular contenders in the near future.

Although with that said, I'm not really a believer in Manziel so if that goes horribly wrong then things could go back to square one - though in fairness the Browns are a lot better than the Redskins so I don't think it would get quite that dire.

No doubt we do have a chance but again - need a lot to happen.  It's not impossible but it will be very tough.  I think you have to look at it realistically and odds are the Browns probably won't make the playoffs but again - been a hell of a great season for them and nothing to complain about.  Anything can happen though!

Agreed.  When you consider it's been done with quite a few undrafted players in key roles it's really been a good run so far this season.  I can accept Cleveland losing games so long as they're competitive and give effort - 52-0 blowouts like the Raiders had to me are unacceptable.

Manziel - the jury is out IMO.  He'll get his chance and then we'll see what happens.  It really is a tough call at this point between Hoyer and Manziel but I do believe in Pettine and the front office and that they will make what they believe is the best choice.

My advice? trade your 1st and second round pick to the raiders and grab mariota and then after that target some more wrs, TEs and O line depth. The browns defense is great, it has been pretty decent for the last few years. But much like the jets they can make good defenses but have had a ton of bad QBS lined up and knocked down as quick as they come.

Did you all see Dez Bryant just throw Kyle Fuller to the ground with a stiff arm? According to the Steve Smith play against the Bengals that should have been OPI lol.

The Bears secondary is just horrible. The safety play has been bad for the last 3 R 4 years for them. Not sure why they kept Conte and let Major Wright go because Conte has never been solid in any area.

The entire defense looks confused most of the time. Today no one has covered Murray when comes out the backfield.

So hold on.... the Cowboys have 9 wins this season? Well guys I think this might be the true end of the world. The Browns were in first place, and the Cowboys have won more than 8 games. Or Hell has really frozen over.

The way how the game ended last night has me fully convinced that the "accident waiting to happen" disease has completely transmitted from Romo and the 'Boys to Cutler and the Bears.

UGH! I REFUSE to root for the damn Patriots and Steelers! NOT HAPPENING! Okay.....Maybe the Squeelers, only because I want B-More to win the division. In all honesty, I want New England to stay at that #1 spot. If Baltimore wins the division, they comin!

I remember how dirty it felt cheering for the Steelers last season. Now that we're back here again I see it's not a feeling that's aged well.

At least it is against the Bengals, maybe they tie?

Its hard to believe that a TIE was the one thing keeping the bungles in first place for a few weeks.

Yeah, I agree it still sucks.

As long as both teams look like crap, we might as well root for the result that helps us best. That means Pitt if we win, so hopefully 3-0 with both QBs throwing 4+ picks.

And a massive fight that sees like 40 guys ejected and suspended for five games.

Roethlisberger and Green in a huge fight that gets them banned from football?

Ugh....... NFL Gameday Morning has turned into NFL Johnny Manziel Morning. Every other segment involves him and why he should be the starter. Then Michael Irvin is all over his jock defending Manziel and putting Hoyer down like crazy.
