Draft position matters because it carries over in every round you pick. Even if we can find good players in any round with our FO, getting even better players is something we should not overlook. This team is not equipped to string along playoff appearances because it lacks depth at cb and dynamic talent at the skill positions(forsett, daniels, sss are stopgaps). With the afc being a logjam, losing a game or two could seriously affect draft position. 16-17 can be a huge difference from 20 and above. Why do you think last draft was our best in a long time? If we can get 4+ solid contributers like the draft we just had, this team will make significant progress towards resembling the (2008-12) ravens. We are still transitioning from the Flacco-Lewis-Reed era to the Flacco-Mosley-Hill era. Winning or losing against the dolphins, i'll be happy either way.

We will still get players we like. We always do. When we get bad players, it's because we made a mistake, not because we missed out on our desired guys necessarily. This year was great because we got talent that should have been taken rounds earlier, and if we were picking in the 20s, we would have taken them the previous round. We can certainly go to the playoffs multiple years in a row with our current roster. We finished one game out of the playoffs on our worst year, and we're tied for the second wildcard and only a game and a half behind the division leader currently. We aren't some scrub squad that is lucky to have a winning record.

That makes us a fringe playoff team. When i mean multiple playoffs, im talking about the 49ers of the past 3 years. Not just sliding in with 9-7,10-6 records. You dont want to be toeing the line between 8-8 and 9-7. Because then that season is like limbo between actually being a championship contender or sucking and getting high picks. there is no guarantee we would have got mosley if we made the playoffs or even timmy. hell, we could have gotten dez if we went 8-8 instead of 9-7 in 09.  losing will mean we will get players higher on the board and give us a better chance of getting a lot of players that are high on our board. having miami obliterate us wont be bad because we will be the better for it.

Those teams always flame out eventually.

9-7 and 10-6 won three of the past four Superbowls.

This secondary is just so bad; really have to hope Tannehill and the Dolphins O has an off day. I hope the defense will be motivated to play their best (which will hopefully be enough), and our offense continues to perform well. Right now, I'd consider us lucky to be able to win this game. 10-6 and missing the playoffs would be a heart-breaker, but I at least want a winning record.

i have been reading all the replies etc.. on this forum. i admit this secondary needs work, but you cant blame them for everything. we have had a lot of bad calls this year on our secondary. the PI's are getting out of hand. levine's PI sunday that was a bad call imo and should not have happened. levine didnt do anything that charger had his form arm etc..pinned on levine's chest well before that ball arrived. it seems like there is a dark cloud over this team becuase of the ray rice situation. the steve smith catch in cincy still sticks with me. that was a horrible call. i am not talking about this guy should have caught the ball etc.. i am talking about flags that should not have happened and cost us the game. chargers, cincy. that should have been 2 w's. we should be 9-3 right now. those bs calls last monday night. we should have blown out the saints. the way i see it we have to win out  to make the playoffs. i am not a fan of dean pees but what about spags he is coaching the backend. do you think he has something to do with how the secondary is playing? i am going to say no. i still think pees is the problem. it irirtates me that he plays 10 yards of the receiver. we are not jamming anyone or getting physical at the line of scrimmage. i dont know. i dont think we make the playoffs this year. if we do were going to get smoked the first round.

I'm a fan but believe both calls were correct. You have to reverse the roles of the players to see them as the right calls. I think the secondary problem is due mostly to personnel. Had Levine been Jimmy Smith, that PI call becomes an interception. But I doubt Rivers would not have thrown it to that side to begin with.

When Asa comes back, who gets cut? He's been out so long I am not sure his return becomes an upgrade.

I thought Tannehill looked pretty good last night. The Dolphins will likely use the Chargers blue print but they have different personnel.

If the jets dbs can hold down the dolphins then ours should be able to. Losing this game means we lose control of our destiny.

I agree with this....

We can do this.  The remaining schedules of those teams in it, or in the hunt, are tougher than ours.  If we can't take care of business with this schedule, we don't deserve it....  We have Asa probably coming back.  I hope he is ready...  and we are most likely getting Campanaro back too... which is a plus.

WE CAN DO THIS!

This is officially an elimination game.

And... Not yet...  We have the easiest schedule.  Some of these teams could actually fall too.  We just fell early with the opportunity to get some back.  They aren't going to have that opportunity.

You got San Diego playing New England, San Fran, Denver, and KC....

You got Cincy playing the Steelers twice

You got the Steelers playing Cincy twice

This could get really really interesting in the end.

If we want a home game we need the division and that means winning out. Other teams in the hunt or ahead of us play each other so losses are guaranteed

I hope Asa can help us because Levine got abused on Sunday. We really need to stop allowing  explosive plays and with as much zone as we play makes it even more unacceptable. The entire point of zone is to minimize damage. It still seems that all our guys aren't on the same page. The coaching staff should really challenge the defenses manhood this week. The poor db play and lack of pass rush against a patchwork oline is ridiculous..

That interception to end the game was a really bad decision by the QB.

As much as the Ravens peed me off the last two years Im thankful we dont have that disaster like the Jets. Not one NFL QB on the roster, awful GM, no core players...thanks Oz I forgive you for Elam and the secondary woes after watching that garbage.

And a lot of those teams could finish 8-8 or 7-9 or 9-7...

I don't see the Chargers going much further....3 really tough teams....  they fall.

I think there's a chance that the Bengals lose their Division spot.

I think KC falls now....  They have 3 really tough games for themselves.

Cleveland has a QB issue now....

Too many iffs and maybe's...

So, if you want to say that "to be assured a playoff spot" then I would agree with it...  but I see some of these teams falling off.

Go to Yahoo Playoff scenario, Baltimore needs to win out to make it or a total collapse of all AFC north teams. And I have Cincinnati losing to Cleveland and Denver and still the Ravens do not make it.Baltimore needs to win out to assure a birth.

Miami and Kansas City could easily win out as they have the easiest last 4 games

you can think all you want, it's all about wins. Do the scenario, you'll see.

I have.....  and so have many of the analysts...  They don't believe all those teams hold on based on schedules.

I'm not believing Cincy loses to Cleveland.....  not with their QB issue right now...  Hoyer and Manziel..  They'll kill Manziel.

And like I said....  If you want to guarantee it at this point yes....  But I also don't see KC beating Denver...  not how they are playing lately...  and I surely don't think that Miami wins out.  They've got us this week and New England the week after us.

1. I said nothing about winning the division. I already said that it would take an 11-5 record on our part to win the division, which  means winning out.

2. What I'm suggesting is that there's a fall notion that 10-6 isn't going to make the playoffs, which I say almost certainly will. Most of it will probably come down to tiebreakers, naturally, but it normally does.

I think because fans see an 8-4 team and six 7-5 teams, they assume that there's going to be like four 10-6 teams at season end. I just don't see it.

I've laid out what I think before, and I'll lay it out again...

1. I think SD wins one more game this season at best, and they might possibly lose all four. I think they are a 9-7, non-playoff team.

2. KC still has plenty of tough games on their schedule... at Arizona, at Pittsburgh, vs SD to end the season. I actually kind of like them to win out or come close to it, which would put them at 11-5 or 10-6.

3. Miami is in a must-win game at home against us, because they play Baltimore and at NE the following week. If they lose both of those games, they're basically out of it. This game against us is sort of an elimination game for Miami if you ask me.

4. Buffalo is a write off to me. They play Denver and New England on the road, and have to host GB. 8-8 football team, 9-7 at best.

5. Pittsburgh is going to beat themselves, as they've continue to do throughout the season. Two games remaining against Cincinnati, host KC, still have to play in Atlanta. I predicted they'd lose 4 of their last 5 (including last weekend), and I'm sticking by that. I think they are a 9-7 team at the very best.

6. Cleveland still plays Indy, Cincinnati and Baltimore, and are probably transitioning to a new QB.

Put it simply... KC is a credible threat for a wildcard, and I consider Miami and possibly Cleveland as threats. I've completely written off Buffalo, I give SD very little chance, and Pittsburgh is the most inconsistent team in the league, so winning four straight games seems unlikely for a team that is Jekyll and Hyde on a week to week basis.

Um, Miami already beat New England, and they can do it again.

Gotta say....  That sounds legit, Jacket.....  I don't believe Miami beats New England again....  Not happening.

The schedule this year is so messed up.....  It has actually gonna be a lot of fun and has made the end of this season quite interesting...
