Vent thread: Chargers

Something that will go overlooked in this game is that 3rd and 4 play. Where SD lined up showing blitz. Flacco does play-action.

If we run the ball there we go to the 2 minute warning regardless if we get a first down. Then we kick a FG following 2 minute warning. Then a KO as well SD might get the ball back with 1:55 seconds. Rather than 2:30 seconds.

Yep they essentially got an extra timeout.  Poor clock management.

If we draft well on defense, don't lose too many people in the offseason and manage to hold onto Kubiak before he's offered a head coaching job somewhere else, I think we'll be set for next year.

With this secondary, even if we make it to the playoffs we're not going to go anywhere. We've had one of the easiest schedules in the league, but our defense simply isn't up to the job.

Hire Wade Phillips or Rex Ryan in the offseason to shore up our defense and give it some swagger back.

At least we know Rex is gonna demand for some Corners.

Yeah b/c he's only 2nd in the league in sacks and now people want him gone?

Yea letting go of Cary Williams was a big mistake. Him and Harbaugh had issues as well as I think the front office thought he was an on field problem...but dammnit if it he isnt good. Losing Jimmy Smith to injury again is getting old too. Dude is the Derrick Rose of CBs

completely wrong. cary williams is a bum. getting rid of pollard and corey graham was our biggest mistake.

I don't really understand how we found a way to lose. We won the turnover battle by two, got two sacks and gave up none, scored on all but one possession...

At some point, the coaching staff, which I've never been too critical of, needs to take the blame. Yeah we kicked a lot of field goals, but we scored three touchdowns to go along with that. 33 points and no turnovers with one punt and a dominant kicking game all around should be enough for any team to win. The worst call was throwing it on the the third down before our last field goal. Even if we don't pick it up on a run, they don't get the ball back until there's under 2 minutes left. We gave them 30+ free seconds, and when did they score again?

God help us if we have to rely on a rookie to safe our secondary.  We need to get someone from FA.  A real professional

mainly looking forward to the offseason. not implying we take a corner lol. just pissed off about the game

I dont go that far Doom was trying to get something done but I would not mind them bringing in as many guys off the street to see if we can get some real DB's to go along with Hill.

Doom just needs to chill with the off sides, that can be fixed over night. He is NOT the problem...

What do you all suggest to do when fringe Pees? He's handcuffed by an inept secondary. His best player is Will Hill or Webb and we've seen Webbs play decline. You say blitz but when people get open on under 3 seconds what's he suppose to do. Everyone says how in clutch the defense is, but if the offense gets 1 more td or get the first down, the game is over at the end.

One thing I hate about Harbaugh is when a rookie makes a mistake, he benches him in the next game and gives them no chance to redeem themselves. Brooks deserves more playing time than Elam and Stewart. They have been GOD AWFUL this season with no instincts what so ever. Yea Brooks miss plays the ball from time to time but at least he has the awareness to get in position to where he can make a play on the ball. Did he even see the field at all in this game? Lorenzo is by far a better runner then Pierce. But after 1 fumble weeks ago, he's lucky to even get a carry a game. Harbs you gotta stop being so damn stubborn and let the better players play.

We shouldn't have cut Chykie Brown.

That's something I never thought I'd hear someone say.  Brown looked like hot garbage when he was playing with the world-beating secondary that was in Baltimore in the Superbowl, but I don't see him as being any better or worse than most of the guys in the secondary right now.  Webb is better, but he's not what he was before his knees got shredded.

does anyone want to actually win this game? there is no way, no chance, we do anything in the playoffs. the 2012 ravens at least had a secondary and injured players who were returning. 2011 webb, jimmy smith, and asa jackson aint coming in that door to give the shot in the arm we desperately need. we are stuck with scrub webb, levine, and gorrer. We are a flawed team whose championship aspirations should be focused on next year. This team is almost stacked thanks to those 2013-2014 drafts(hopefully elam can play solely in the box next season) and this upcoming draft can turn us into a juggernaut. I would rather lose and gain better draft position, solely so we can come back next season and wreak havoc.

Oh, and jimmy smith with a lisfranc is terrible, just terrible. I pray to god he comes back and can form a formidable shutdown corner tandem with whoever ozzie finds(and I guarantee you we will acquire a shutdown corner this offseason). Just my 2 cents.2014 ravens died in cincinnati. #rip

Let's think about this for a second. During the last drive (actually most of the game also), we noticed all DB's were playing back, almost prevent, zone. This tells me only one thing. Not that Pees is an idiot. He's actually smart enough to know that his own corners and safeties can't play a lick on the line of scrimmage. They don't have the talent to press and keep up with WR's that can burn past them with speed and good route running.

Which leads me to this....

Pees should've still put those DB's at the line. If they get burned for a TD, there'd still be more than a minute (or two) left in Flacco's hands to come back with a FG at the least.

We were 11-0 against west coast teams before today.

11-0? dating back to when? We've lost to the Chargers and Seahawks in Harbaughs era.

We wasted the timeout on pretended to kick a fake FG.

Stupid call.  Tucker would have been money from that distance.

Agreed. If we were playing for the FG anyway, that was a terrible call.

I hate it when commentators bring up stuff like that in a game. It's like they want something bad to happen.

This was definitely one of those classic 4th quarter defensive screw-ups. I really don't know how anyone could blame Flacco for this; his receivers didn't help him out much, and he didn't turn it over once. He even gave us a chance to try a long field goal, had Flowers not gotten the good tackle. Defense has to be restructured next year with some new faces; a winning record this year would be nice, but at this point I think it's safe to say the AFC North isn't going anywhere in the playoffs.

Haha - you are right, but my only thought is for depth.  We have zero depth at corner right now.

I would blame... not having Ray Lewis.  Seriously.... lewis studied tendencies like no other player on the ravens... this is why he stopped sproles with the game on the line years ago... weeks earlier chargers went to that play for the win... lewis sniffed it out immediately!   Rivers ALWAYS goes to floyd on A gap blitzes because... well you saw how floyd can catch earlier in the game for yourselves... and really... if the ravens pressed there.... there would be no other option to throw to. This is how we lost to the raiders a couple years ago.  Anyways good game guys.  Bolts needed it more anyways and deserved it more. Now I can enjoy watching all the other great games today without that disgustingly bitter taste of da feet...or defeat.  Rivers was just the better Qb as expected.

The spent timeout on the attempted fake FG at the end of the game proved to be crucial also.

How far would that FG attempt have been if we had 1 second left?

Was just about to mention this. Harbaugh and his liberal use of 2nd half timeouts has always been a problem. Came back and bit us today.

Losing Marlon Brown hurt today.

Yeah, he was the guy who was making those big catches.  After he went away, things were bouncing off hands left and right.

One thing for sure. Elam is awful. I dont have words for how bad. He just tackles WRs running downfield without the ball...does he think it Wont be Seen?

im pretty sure he was coached to do that in the event he knew he was about to get burned. Speaks to his coverage ability.
