If the Ravens make the playoffs, name a breakout postseason player

86 posts in this topic

title says it all, if we make the playoffs and make a bit of a run, who is a player you see suddenly breaking out starting in the wild card round and consistently being a huge part of our production until our season ends?

im gonna go out on a limb and say michael campanaro, he was looking like the best receiver on the team for a minute there vs cinci, and he had some good weeks prior to that, he has shown an innate ability to get open, and excellent hands, on a episode of wired brandon williams was speaking about how he is "never covered" because he can and does make nearly every catch no matter how tightly covered, he said he has done it all year in practice and TC vs rookies and vets, i havent seen a reason to not believe him. he is coming back from a injury that can be a nagging one, but it is not a major injury as long as it doesnt get re-aggravated, he could come in with some pretty fresh legs but a solid amount of snaps so he knows what to do out there, get warmed up in the final 3-4 weeks, and come in to the playoffs under everyones radar and light it up with a pair of 10 catch games.

another one is juice, he has been lightly used, even at times when you would expect him to be used, i think kubiak may just be hiding his hand through the regular season and when the stakes get high in the playoffs, i could see juice being a big go-to guy, screens on 3rd and short, designed dumpoffs, and lots of wheel routes inside the 25, basically, lots of game defining plays.

what do you all think? and obviously we arent in yet, this is all in good fun.

hopefully marlon brown. right now we have an old TE a fiery slot receiver and an inconsistent outside threat in torrey smith. we sorely need a receiver to step up. i think the best cases are aiken or brown. however, we can;t wait for the playoffs we need these guys to step up now. if i'm a DC i just double steve smith. game over.

well i would like to say marlon, but campanaro was heating up before he got hurt, and i meant he was really heating up, and in camps absence hes had, waht.. 2 catches? they were both for crucial first downs and he looked like he had some fire behind his play, but he hasnt contributed much all year, and when he really gets a shot he can only muster 2 catches, im not so sure hes got the stuff, maybe joe just says to hell with it and starts throwing them up to him and he loses the alligator arms and catches everything, but im just not sold on marlon doing much more than a small time chain mover on rare occasions. id love to see otherwise but im just not seeing it

Crockett Gilmore will have a 2-TD game this postseason. I'll also say McPhee becomes more than just a Raven fan household name.

i RRREALLY wanted to mention gilmore but i tried to keep it to 2 players lol. something about that guy i really like, i just have this strange feeling that he will be a long time contributor for us. not so sure if the breakout happens this season though

Torrey on offense and McPhee on defense are my guys. I think we'll need Torrey to come up big in the playoffs to have a shot and I think he has shown some steady progression suggesting he will.

Man, I hope we get some hot playoff performances like we did in 2012.

McPhee could make a statement as a pass rusher like Kruger did.

Gorrer and/or Levine will have to step up like Corey Graham.

Asa Jackson could come back from IR and provide a boost like Suggs did.

Campanaro could be the little slot receiver like Stokley was.

And most of all, we need postseason Flacco to reemerge.

-Oh, and Monroe needs to pull himself together and protect the blind side like McKinnie did for 4 games.

Camp or Crockett for offense.

Defense is a crap shoot. Some players are already breaking out. If I was forced to make a pick, it'd be Levine or Jernigan.

I'll echo what most are saying, Camp and Gillmore. Gillmore could really come into his own as a redzone weapon creating big mismatches. Camp has the ability to be an amazing slot receiver, the type that drives defenses nuts. For him, it's just a matter of staying healthy.

Marlon Brown's been making a little noise recently, so I'll go with him on offence.

Defensively, it's a toss-up for me between Timmy Jernigan and Pernell McPhee. We'll see which force is stronger, the "talented rookie bringing it all together and terrorising Playoff Peyton out of nowhere" force or the "I really want to get overpaid by the Browns this offseason" one.

Just a fantasy..  Jus is the logical guy to nominate.  Of course, I'm biased but I like your view for sure.

Matt Elam

Matt Elam is shrink wrap.  He fails when a intercept opportunity comes.  lol

If your serious, I respect your choice.  However, others would take the baton for the last leg of the race moreso than Elam.

Will Hill is my secondary choice (so far).

For the defensive side of the ball, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Brooks. I think he'll be able to lay some more hits on receivers like he did to Walker in the Titans' game. Just picture how it'll go if he does that to the receivers of the Broncos or Patriots?

most defensive players are so far past "breakout" that i forgot to even mention them lol.

on defense ill go with jernigan, upshaw, or gorrer/

upshaw has quietly been one of our most important defensive players this year, i think he is gonna create 2 turnovers for us in the postseason, maybe lay another hit like he did on ben and causing a fumble, minus the flag. i could also see jernigan with a stripsack or a goal line forced fumble, hes a big play waiting to happen. i would not be surprised to see gorrer with 2 picks and one returned for a td, the way he gets targeted quickly and repeatedly is going to come back to bite some qb when facing our pass rush.

Steve Smith

Good choice. Steve has a history of really showing-up big in big games. I'm going to have to add that Joe is a playoff master as well. The only person historically even close to him in playoff efficiency right now is (........wait for it...wait for it...) Jake Delhomme. That was Steve's first QB.

On offense, I'm gonna say the O-Line. They're not gonna go far at all in the playoffs if the line plays like trash. As far as those saying Campanaro I don't see him getting many reps during the playoffs. The Ravens are gonna go with experience when the chips are on the line.

Def...I'm gonna say Will Hill. The young man has a lot to prove and owes the organization for taking a chance on him.

my mind just exploded...

thats shocking though in all realness, i thought he only had 1 season of playoff success. i certainly remember that absolute bomb he put on display vs the cardinals back in 08, what'd he throw 4 picks and no td's?
