Ray Rice wins appeal, immediately reinstated

134 posts in this topic

If our run game was in the gutter this year I could see us re-signing him, especially after comments by Newsome and Bisciotti this past year.  Our running game is fine, so that's moot.  Someone will sign him, if not this year next.  I wish him and Janay the best!

I don't think this affects our cap. Not that I'm aware. From what I understand, this appeal he won just grants him the ability to play this year. I don't believe it impacts his terminated contract with the Ravens.

I don't think anyone will actually pick him up, but the court made the right decision there. Not supporting Ray, but the fact is he got penalised twice for the same thing (albeit too light the first time, but that second ban shouldn't have happened).

I knew he would win . Now he will win his case against the Ravens and get the 3-4 million he was seeking .

I'd really like to know under what pretenses he accomplishes this. I'm not saying it can't happen. I'm just doubtful that we should owe him money when you can cut a player for any reason without recourse.

I reckon that case will be a lot tougher. As someone else said a while ago, teams cut players for no reason all the time. The NFL almost takes pride in how tough it is to stay in the league.

Because he got a two game suspension and the Ravens Front Office was fine with that . In fact ,they were ecstatic .

They did nothing as an organization to discipline Rice .

Their lack of action even when Ozzie admitted Rice told him he hit her alone greatly diminishes the Ravens case

Rice will win this case . I will be shocked if he loses . Yeah I know there are bad behavior clauses but the Ravens

did nothing after the suspension . When it got political though when the video came out . , they did .

You do know we only saved the non guaranteed portion of his contract right? We can cut him if he told Harbaugh to go and die and we wouldn't owe him any of his non guaranteed money. That's why it's non guaranteed.

So please tell me why the team will be on the hook for that money when we can cut him and save the non guaranteed money in any other case.

The NFL should have handled it right in the first place.  They  based their second punishment on public opinion...  and the video...  instead of the incident itself.  And my only thought was about a week or two ago with the Adrian Peterson case....  It should have been handled in that manner.  It appears that the league "learned" from the RR saga.  So Sad, in so many ways..

Rice will win the case . It's called wrongful termination and he has a damn good case the way our Front Office negligently handed the matter .

Hell, even Bisciotti said they handled it completely wrong .

Rice will win this case .

It doesn't matter though how wrong the terminated contract may be. A team can terminate a contract because a guy smells bad if they wanted. They don't need a reason to cut a guy. That's why there's guaranteed salary and a base salary, which isn't guaranteed. I'm not sure you're getting it. Teams cut players all the time and save money if there's money to be saved.

Good for RR. The NFL went way out of their lane after giving him two games, then stating a first offense was 6 games.  And then an indefinite suspension?

As long as it's not in division or the patsies, I really don't care.

I know he hit her, but I feel bad for everything that's happened to him.

I believe he is remorseful, unlike other players.

I can't imagine any NFL team picking him  up.

The basis of the running back's argument, as NFL Media's Judy Battista reported in the hearing's wake, was that the former Ravens player was subjected to double jeopardy when the league indefinitely suspended him. Rice was originally banned for two games after the video footage surfaced.

Rice believes that the NFL received no new information when the video became public -- and that Commissioner Roger Goodell knew all the details at the time of the original decision.

The Ravens released Rice on Sept. 8 after the video emerged. He also has filed a grievance against the Ravens for wrongful termination of his contract.

I still don't understand how a team can "wrongfully terminate" an NFL player's contract when their salaries are not guaranteed outside the guaranteed money. I'm not even being a jerk about this. I'm genuinely confused how he can be wrongfully terminated.

I don't think you're the only one. The article went into detail about the league's second suspension and how it counts as double jeopardy and was a wrongful second penalty that shouldn't have been applied, but in his case against the Ravens the only thing it says is that he believes he was wrongfully terminated.

Players get cut for no reason all the time - ask Chris Kluwe and he'll tell you he got cut because his coach was a homophobe. Bottom line is that's why the players have guaranteed and non-guaranteed salaries. Ray got his guaranteed portion and got cut, losing his non-guaranteed portion. Tough break, but if you want to complain about losing that part of your contract then there's a pretty long queue right now.

If I'm not mistaken, Biscotti found their fault to be that they did not cut him sooner.  I'm not an attorney, but I doubt there is any statute of limitations on when they could cut him, as long as it was prior to him returning from the original two game suspension. It would seem the surfacing of the video is irrelevant(legal wise) to the Ravens cutting him.

Company employees can also get fired at will . That doesn't mean they can't win a wrongful termination lawsuit .

With the evidence Rice has , he will get this money .

Rice,as deplorable as his actions were, was screwed by the Ravens Front office.

Even though they knew he hit his wife as Ozzie admitted , they went crawling up to the Commisioner's

office BEGGING for leniency . And that's what they got . They were very pleased and had no intention

of even giving him separate disciplinary action .

But when the tape came out VERIFYING what Rice already said was the truth , it became a political hot potato .

The judge that reinstated Rice even said that Rice never lied or misconstrued the truth

That equals a win on his lawsuit against the Ravens , I don't give a damn whether it's non guaranteed money

Or not .
