NFL Teams Pursuing Duron Carter?

18 posts in this topic

Mods, I believe this is where this topic should go...

Duron Carter will be signed by an NFL team on December 1st.  The 49ers, Colts and the Seahawks have been linked heavily to him... but the Ravens have been oddly quiet.

The Ravens are a team that prides itself on pursuing undrafted FA's; well what about a guy who played in Canada for 2 years and did nothing but light it up?  He's 6'5".  He's fast.  He has huge hands.  He obviously has great blood lines.  He put up 1000 yards with Troy freaking Smith (yeah, that guy) throwing him the rock.

This is a potentially elite player, available midseason at a position of huge need.  He can't play until next year.. but it's not like we're getting any better at WR with Steve Smith a year older and Torrey Smith potentially gone to FA.

Shouldn't the Ravens be aggressively pursuing him much like they go after undrafted guys at the draft?  Isn't this just another avenue they can use to improve the roster?

I remember us offering a tryout after he went undrafted, so I suppose we'll probably at least kick the tires.  I'm not sure what we'd think of him now, with his character issues.

He's been a model citizen in Montreal this year despite a very tumultuous situation (multiple QB's, the OC was fired during training camp, etc).

Being Canadian, I actually saw him play live this year in Hamilton, Ontario vs. the Tiger Cats. He passed the eye test for me, big, fast and can catch the ball. I think he could be a quality starter next year if he got in an NFL strength and conditioning program and had a good training camp.

Still a tough one with the PR situation earlier this year.  If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't even consider it an issue.  I'm confident that the front office will at least explore the possibility, though.

Nothing off the field though.... just academic/work ethic related.  He was a kid, he's a man now.

Work ethic can be an issue.  I've heard that he has a bit of a diva attitude, but that's just what I've seen on Twitter and such.  I admittedly have no basis for that lol.

Good, they say the same thing about Steve Smith.

Clarifying what you said in the first post, Carter can start talking with teams on December 1st, but can't sign a contract until February.

Steve Smith also has a history of producing in the NFL, big difference.

I would give him a shot. Why not? As others said, I guess the character concerns could be an issue but I doubt it. We took a chance on Will Hill of all people and McClain. I don't think we'll simply stop giving second chances even after the attention we've received but the investment is the critical factor as well as the level of risk. We'll certainly evaluate both and if we can get him here on a relatively affordable deal and feel there's not a ton of risk we'll sign him.

Duron Carter had his 1st NFL visit today, in Tampa. Also scheduled to visit MIN, KC, and IND on tis first leg. Son of HOF WR Cris Carter

If Duron Carter does not sign with someone this week, a second leg of visits could include BAL, SEA, SF and AZ. Lot of NFL interest in him

I bet he ends in Indy or Minnesota, but I'd like to see him here.

I expect Indy to make a heavy push for him.  They could use a guy like him.

Yep.  Wayne is contemplating retirement and Nicks is overrated and on a 1-year deal.  That leaves T.Y. Hilton (stud) and rookie Donte Moncrief, who didn't play very much.

I hope we can get him here but I'm not holding my breath. I think another team will throw money at him.

Same here. Odds aren't good for the Ravens.
