Official Vent Thread: Titans

Well, the first half completely felt like the 2013 Ravens to me, and I was very nervous about our offense and defense. They must have had a good pep talk during halftime though; both the O and D looked significantly better in the second half. Against the Saints we probably can't afford a sluggish start, so it's good to have the bye week and start improving again.

Alotta talk from a guy that's been very quiet the past few weeks .

Last three weeks sure but he still is over 700 yards for the year which is pretty dang good

For a guy who isn't even a corner Levine looked more sound than Webb. Webb's legs must be totally shot because he's nowhere near WRs sometimes in coverage. Looks real, real bad.

Sadly, he's playing like he's scared to get hurt again. My question is if Levine holds up and continues to improve, does he take webb's spot when jimmy comes back next year ?

Teams like the Broncos, patriots, and packers just keep on throwing tds even with huge leads, even when playing lesser teams. Greenbay up 35-0 in the first half and they keep throwing for tds.

Big difference between a half and two minutes left. If the Titans wanted to call timeouts, the Ravens would have scored

I'm not just talking about this game, the Tampa game for example.

not convinced, i just dont believe in our secondary, solid game by levine but gorrer was burned quite a few times early, nice he got the pick but cmon man it was against mettenberger when he was making desperate throws and playing panicked.

i said at the beginning of the year, if we lose joe, jimmy, or monroe, stick a fork in us, monroe was only out for 4 weeks and we did alright without him so i was wrong there, but i stand by my other 2, our corners are flat out bad, even webb.

dean pees is a good dc when we have good corners out there, but im not so sure he can dial up the proper blitz packages on a regular basis to disguise our secondary against good offenses.

i could see a 9-7 finish, in this division that could be all we need for 1st, but were gonna need all 3 other teams to lose quite a bit.

I disagree and I think our secondary will be fine and I still believe we will be playoffs contenders with out Jimmy Smith. You don't need a shut down cornerback to enter the playoffs

I don't think so. I believe it will take more time for Webb to regain is ability and his confidence. But I do believe he is being less reckless and taking less risk; if I were in his shoes, I am sure that I would too. One more major injury may end his career so I just think his confidence (consciencely or unconsciencely) is a bit shaken for now. Time heals all wounds!

I think Smitty may have been feeling his age the past three weeks. He hasn't looked like the same guy. In his defense, that five week stretch had to be tough on him and the entire team. Hopefully the bye renews and he's ready for the December push to the finish.

Agreed.. And pitta going down really hurt him..

Teams started taking away steve and now we see Torrey being able to get behind the defense again..

Get the Oline straight and we could make a real good run.. It's there we just need a really good bye

I'd temper expectations. We did just play the Titans and struggled early. Glad we won, but a better team might have burried us with the way the team started that game. That kind of start is basically what sealed our fate against the Steelers and then sealed theirs against the Jets.

Not a very pretty win, but a good win when you look at the fact that we are heading into a bye, our secondary depleted, and a 2 win team coming off their bye. Receivers dropped some way too catchable balls, Joe made some missed some balls when he had defenders in his face, and missed a few when he didn't. Line did not play very well, or at least there was a lot of pressure, especially early on. Secondary didn't play all that great, but for the injuries they ended up stepping up later on, but Tenn was moving the ball well on them at first. All in all, it was a win, and the Ravens have a bye to get healthy, and have no shortage of things to work with.

So, it looks like the defensive adjustments that paid huge dividends were to actually play more zone coverage

Really? I thought I saw more man/press. I'll defer to you, though, being the resident secondary expert.

In reference to the Titans game and others in the past; my question is; "Is there a way we can obtain games from an entire season for our own personal possession?"

I think the issue is you can't trust Joe not to turn the ball over. Given that fact, if you don't have to throw the ball you just don't. It's less about not running up the score and more about keeping yourself in a position to win.

I really do actually appreciate that. I thought I saw a pretty good mix with press bail mixed in. I just saw Mettenberger and Wisenhunt both confirmed a lot of zone. Would explain Elam's low snap count

Though this is probably obvious, but we played a ton of man coverage from what I recall when we brought blitz pressure. I do think, although I don't have the stats to back it up, that we did a lot more safety/corner blitzes.

It seemed at least in the first quarter that we were playing a lot more man coverage with deep safeties, though perhaps switching over to zone had a lot to do with the difference between the 1st quarter and the rest of the game.

Would be interested to see the actual breakdown if anybody can get access to the snap counts and formations.

The few times I saw Elam, he was blitzing or at least playing up at the line of scrimmage. The corner/safety blitzes seem to be working fairly well, so I'd imagine we'll see a lot of them for the rest of the season, however long it lasts.

I definitely think it had to do with the differences in play. They started rolling the safeties over the top of coverages and it seemed that Levine and Gorrer had an easier time adjusting to attacking the ball by keeping it in front. Webb was much of the same.

I've never actually seen a breakdown that broke down a snap count of man, press, and zone counts and formations, but that would be something I'd be thoroughly interested to see.

Watching Oher on Sunday made me think back to the playoff game in Denver. Oher played like JO in that game against Dumervill AND Miller. What the heck happened!?

And before last year he was not asked to carry the offense. Joe functions well when expectations are low, as soon as you try to lean on him he lets you down.
