Jimmy Smith done for the season

377 posts in this topic

Look who they pair brady with? Edelman? LaFell? Branch? Caldwell? Ridley? Vereen? besides Gronk and Hernandez he hasn't had anything (moss for a year). and you missed the sarcasm of an alley "dweeler" , a dweeler is similar to a bolden, cheeky, or  harbogh.

Exactly.. Are they unknowns (Gronk excluded) ???

You sound like my wife, the ultimate optimist.

You, sir, are a lucky man.

Webb steps it up, Gorrer becomes the next Corey Graham, Asa comes back lights out. This is the NFL. Injuries come with the territory. Stranger things have happened.

Would you give up?? I say we should NOT.  They have attitude to get through the loss of a key player or players

Give Up? I'm not saying we should give up.

Chances are Danny comes in and plays much better than anyone that has been back there since Smith went down. And if this doesn't light a fire under Webb's butt, not sure what would.

All right!  Lets look for the positive as it is all that we have left on the plate.

Webby is getting paid like a shut down corner and i hope he starts to get his confidence back and plays lights out. Gorrer , Jackson , Jacobs , and Franks rotation should be fine and stop playing safeties in nickel packages . i still have faith in the team and the front 7

Chief,Webb is done. You don't have not one but TWO acl tears and become anywhere near

the player you once were.

Webb should be cut after this year. Along with  a lot of scrub safeties we have.

The secondary needs a complete overhaul with Jimmy as the leader.

Ozzie in we trust has FAILED us.

Keeping 4 corners and 7 yes 7 freakin safeties has doomed us.

Ozzie has failed .You dont keep 4 corners in a CORNER league.

And dont give me this baloney that a few safeties can play corner

THEY ARE SAFETIES BRO SAFETIES!

I am so mad I am no longer posting tonight.

Yeah, that's our season. No optimism after the plays we've been giving since Jimmy has been gone and even before that with our garbage safety play.

Then get the, in free agency.

Maxwell

Cromartie

I dont care..just get them. Cut ngata and do not give torrey a new deal.

those are my two targets.

This doesn't have to seal the fate, but it does mean the offense has to really step it up and no day dreaming.

I'm sure they'll get right on that...

I hope the recent shakeup works.  There is a chance.  You'd be surprised how motivating it can be to watch folks get fired in your group for under-performing.  I hope it works.

Honestly, I want to hate the FO for not addressing CB depth, but when your TOP 3 CORNERS all have injuries there's really not much you can do.

That said, Chykie Brown and Franks should have never been on the roster. Paying Jacoby Jones while letting Graham walk is proving to be a huge mistake.

100% spot on.

We lost a really good cornerback in Jimmy Smith. PFF really talked him up in this article: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/10/15/analysis-notebook-week-6-3/

After the first six weeks, PFF was calling Jimmy Smith one of the top 3 cornerbacks in football. This is a huge loss, and it has been since the second half of the Bengals game.

extra salts on wounds with some vinegar, alcohol, ethanol......

I actually wrote his epitaph last year, and the back thing kinda almost sealed it. but I'm holding out with a sliver of hope.

If nothing else, this is an incredible opportunity for Jacobs and Gorrer to make a name for themselves. If they actually play well and Webb rebounds the season doesn't have to be over. I just think the chance of those things happening is very small.

Right now I would say there is a ~25% chance we still make the playoffs and about ~10% chance we make the playoffs and win a game.

Bruh...naw...We keepin torrey and ngata is a Raven for life

You must not be watching the same season I have because torrey looks horrible. Ravens would be stupid to give him #1 or #2 WR type money.

So how's this effect his future here?

Make him prove he's back playing at such a high level and can stay heathy before locking him up, Or just attempt to re sign him this offseason?

A lot of risks are involved but I still hope we try and re sign him this offseason. How much could this injury bring his value down, if any? It was a freak injury but still....

I genuinely feel sorry for his setback. He was a lot more confident and comfortable in his pressers this year....Was really coming into his own.

His contract would have to be on par with Webb which is scary cap wise. so much money going to waste potentially with pitta surely rice, webb not playing near up to par with what he is paid... and i'm sorry to say Flacco. I love flacco but number 1 QB in the league money was a stretch.. When Webb got his contract he was a top 5 CB now we have Jimmy who is a top 5 CB. a big contract with Jimmy and this injury lingers we are in a really bad spot.

Here's what I predict.

Even with our busted up secondary, we're playing such a soft schedule right now, we'll still probably win the majority of our games. We might even squeak into the playoffs. Then we'll get annihilated by whatever decent team we play, since our offense is complete trash against good defenses/on the road, and our secondary couldn't cover high school WRs. We'll do just well enough to draft in the bottom half again, while having 0 chance at a playoff run.

Our defense may put up historic rush yardage numbers the rest of the way. Teams may never hand the ball off against us again.

Thier was nothing the FO could do...all 3 topCBs entered camp healthy. Pitta was healthy. Joe flourishes in Two TE sets and Kubiaks offense is preducated on it. Just bad breaks is all. Thats sports. Had a really good draft, good offseason in free agency. Adding Smith, Zuttah, Forsett and Daniels. Do you think the Yankees expected to lose 4/5ths of thier starting rotation? It happens. To have a championship year you need alot of luck too. The Ravens havent. Losing two stars and linchpins without any contact at all is bizarre.
