Jimmy Smith done for the season

377 posts in this topic

actually since we lost smith, we cant blitz anymore. cause we gotta put too many ppl over top now.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying.

Why even try to cover at this point? Our only hope is to blitz.

Probably just overreacting but our only chance, to me, is to get so much pressure we make Gorrer look like Sherman.

Hes a run stuffer

Hes not warren sapp

Time to move on.

You can't be serious. Dude is the reason so many other guys get chances to shine with 1 on 1 matchups. Him and Mchpee and Williams consistently take on double teams. But neither of those other two guys are a proven commodity yet.

30 mins ago smith wasnt on IR and in most minds was coming back afte the bye

Him coming back after the bye and playing well enough to help us beat NO was quite a stretch. But hey, at least folks have woken up to the reality of this season now.

bringing back Ed Reed would be stupid. Did no one see how many times he got torched last year? did no one see the game we played against him torching him?

I do think Gorrer and Jacobs will prove to be upgrades over Fanks and Brown, I dread seeing them against Brees, Rivers, Tannenhill, and Hoyer. Without Jimmy, all wins are gonna be ugly, hard fought ones.

They may be upgrades, but really, how much? Dropping this marginal DB and picking up different marginal DB, in the light of this news about Jimmy ...

It all feels like rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.

We really about to go 8-8 again after improving o line/running game, getting a new coordiantor and adding Steve Smith.

I think 9-7 or 10-6 is easily possible with our schedule. It still might not be good enough for a WC though, and even if it is there is no chance this secondary would be able to hold up in the playoffs against really good QBs.

And of course this injury bug hit our corners. Couldn't have hit dline, linebackers, or safety where we have all the depth in the world. It just had to hit corner. First Webb, then Asa, and now Jimmy. We're screwed.

Hes had a good season but i dont see him as irreplacable at this point?we have so,e great young talent in his position to mould.

We need to cut him for much bigger needs.

Can Joe pull off a miraculous run ? We are gonna need it.

Worst case scenario would be this team goes 10-6 and still misses playoffs which is very possible with a super competitive AFC.

Tankapalooza time?

Ed made qbs think about where they were going to pass..a lot of the times out of panic.

I think webb was a product of that...eds presence rattled qbs and messed up routes

Ok so Chykie Brown could be able to produce the same type of numbers with Ed Reed presence on the field?  You got to be good cornerback regardless if you have a  safety like Ed Reed roaming the field

This is wishful thinking . I see 7-9 or 8-8 at best  based on this jimmy's loss.

We need a high draft pick...i said this last year..why are we trying to be what we are not.

Just tank. We need a superstar player..best chance of that happening is with a high draft pick

We are not going to come anywhere near the sb so just tank it...why settle for the 14th pick when you could have the 8th :)

actually, there is a good chance we could lose out. the only 2 i think we can win with one maybe a garuntee is the Titans and possibly beat the Texans depends on how mallet looks over the next couple weeks. the Jags are starting to play some good ball. and everyone else has either elite QB or elite WR

It'll be nice to get another good draft pick, hopefully we'll get another talent like Mosley.

That's the only good thing I can say, because without Jimmy the season is over. 2007 all over again.

Joe gonna have to play out of his mind. I have honestly 0% faith in that happening. This is so depressing man.

I get what you're saying, but technically speaking an injury bug definitely hit our d-line this season

Bow our heads and let us pray......we are gonna need it. Brees and Rivers on the horizon...and no telling which QBs from the other teams show up. We will either have to win shootouts or we'll be getting dismantled by season's end. At least Asa will be back at some point. I hope we survived this. Other teams have had their backups step in and they really haven't missed a beat. That doesn't seem to happen around here. Quality of depth is a serious issue.

It's not really wishful thinking. The rest of the schedule is pretty easy. I would honestly rather see a 6-10 season than a 10-6 season, but the Ravens even without Jimmy Smith are not a terrible team.

Yeah, it did, but at least we had depth there. And at least it didn't hit our starters hard.

To win shootouts we need great weapons on offense.

Unfortunately we don't have those either outside SSSr and Forsett.

The Saints, Chargers, Dolphins, and Browns all scare me in the passing game.  The Saints and Chargers are obvious.  Tannehill and the Dolphins have been on a roll lately.  The Browns will have Gordon back at that point and that's a terrifying thought.
